Chapter 2: Change

The weather was cold and the wind was blowing fast, walking against this ruthless wind a young man that had covered himself in a big cloth, had long black hair coming till his neck and a bit of facial hair.

As he was walking in the opposite direction of the howling wind he started to think 'Five years ago the 'Nova Effect' came into existence. It was a phenomenon in which the entire Earth was wrapped in light! Due to this, all the life forms on Earth mutated and had a crystal orb embedded in them. These mutations made us humans way stronger, faster, durable and also increased our endurance but it also made the animals and insects of our planet dangerous and monstrous. The 'Nova Effect' also destroyed a lot of our architecture and technology but the most shocking thing that happened to us was that the human population had dropped from 7 billion to 7 million. This happened because the people between the age of 20-50 were taken away by White Jack and his people and the old, sick people who couldn't handle the mutation had all melted away when they came in contact with the light.'.

As the young man was thinking he came in front of a shop and he stopped at its front door, he raised his hand to knock on the door, the young man knocked on the door and the door was opened by a young girl about his age, she looked at the young man and said 'You're late Raghav, I had told you to reach home at 8 pm but it's 9 pm right now!' Raghav looked at the girl with an apologetic smile and said 'I am sorry sis! I promise this is the last time!' the girl looked at Raghav and told him to come in. The girl looked at Raghav's appearance and said 'Look at you Raghav!! You look like a beggar right now!' Raghav looked at himself and said 'I know! I will cut my hair and break the beard before I go to sleep tonight, so don't worry about it.'.

Raghav looked at his sister and smiled, he started to think 'After the 'Nova Effect' not only did mankind get a boost in strength it also got many kinds of different superpowers! My sister Vinnie got the power to make any artillery at will, due to her powers people started to call her 'Gun Goddess'.

Vinnie looked at Raghav and said 'Anyway did you see the news regarding Midgard today?' Raghav replied to her question 'Yeah I did!' Raghav had started to think 'After the 'Nova Effect' We thought all had been lost and White Jack will come for us too but then we found out that the humans that were sent to Midgard or planet M-417 to build a civilisation for us were not attacked by White Jack and his people, this gave us a ray of hope and everyone on Earth tried to go to Midgard by any means possible. Most of the people who were selected to go to Midgard either had connections or they had a strong S-root (Supernatural root\Super power) that was thought to be essential for mankind's re-emergence and about 10 thousand humans have been sent to Midgard so far.' Raghav looked at Vinnie and said 'Since we are talking about Midgard...' Vinnie interrupted Raghav and said ' Please don't start with this again!' Raghav looked at Vinnie with concern and said 'Come on this is a good chance with this you can be safe and have a shot at living a good life!' Vinnie got irritated by what Raghav said and yelled at him and said 'You seriously expect me to leave you and go to Midgard all by myself?! Listen to me Raghav if I am going to leave for Midgard then I want you to be there with me!' Raghav laughed at Vinnie's idea and said 'You seriously think that I am eligible to go to Midgard?! Unlike you, I don't have an amazing S-root, heck! Unlike everybody else, my crystal orb doesn't even glow! At this point, I think maybe I don't even have an S-root!' Vinnie got a bit disheartened by what Raghav said and walked towards him and said 'Come on! Don't say that I am pretty sure that your S-root is just locked in some way. You've been training so hard I am sure that you will unlock your S-root soon.'.

After Raghav listened to her he got away from her and said 'Who are you kidding Vinnie?! Look at me! I've been trying for the last 5 years to unlock my S-root and I am still not getting any results! I am weak and because of my weakness, you even lost your husband!' Vinnie's eyes widened and she got taken aback, she looked at Raghav and said 'Listen Rudraksha's death was not your fault! He was killed by the Winged Lion!' Raghav listened to her and said 'Is that what you've been saying to yourself all this time?! He died trying to save me, he died because I wasn't capable enough to even protect myself!' Vinnie started to cry and yelled at Raghav 'Shut up!!' After yelling at Raghav, Vinnie cried and ran inside her room and locked herself inside. As Raghav looked at Vinnie going inside her room he thought 'If me being rude to her makes her want to go to Midgard, then I don't have any problem in being rude!' Raghav looked at the time on his smart bracelet and went to his bed. As he lied down on his bed he started to think 'I never thought that something I did not believe in would change my life so much! If only I was stronger I would've at least had a chance to punch that White Jack in the face! Hah! What am I even thinking about?! I know it's impossible!' Raghav started to slowly close his eyes and fell asleep.
