Valeria grimaced into her martini. She couldn’t understand how someone could be so oblivious. Maybe oblivious wasn’t the word she was looking for. Her mom was deliberately rolling over Valeria’s rights, her identity, and her openly stated preferences for her own career needs.

Then again, Sarah had raised her. She had paid for the education Valeria relied on. Her mom worked hard,even if it was to take away the rights of people just like Valeria. Did Valeria have the right to resent her mother for benefitting from the things her daughters did, or from not wanting her daughters to be openly at cross-purposes with her?
