1 Where did the prince go?

The whole world was in chaos. Every living being was busy finding their newborn prince. They searched every nook and corner, yet the prince remained missing.

The king of the witch realm, Arthur McGarrald announced that everyone responsible for losing his son would pay with their life for their incompetence. They would not be able to survive his wrath if no one found his son. 

Completely broken and disheartened, there was nothing left for him to live for.

It was only a month ago when he was the happiest man in the world, announcing the royal feast for his upcoming child as his wife, Alicia, was about to go into labour.

However, within a few moments, the happiness turned into misery when his wife died while giving birth. He was broken, filled with the pain of losing his beloved; he did not even bother to look at his child or asked whether he had a son or a daughter. He just cried and laid there with his wife until people finally came to separate them.

Still, he could feel his wife in the room, in his bed, her fragrance, her smile. Everything was still there. A loud shriek escaped his lips, and then he cried, which eventually turned into wails.

As a king, he could have many wives as concubines, but he never wanted another one. He loved his wife more than anything in this world did, and nobody could replace her in his heart. He never thought of having anyone else ever, but now she was gone.

Now, what was he supposed to do? He did not want this kingdom and did not want his child. He just wanted his wife to come back. He sat there alone, looking at his wife's portraits and talking to them. Complaining that she broke her promises. How she left him alone in this world.

A whole week had passed and the kingdom was in chaos, but the king was in no mood to come out and rule. Then the Duke who had gone to the human realm to prepare for the feast came back. When he saw the realm's condition, he immediately realized that there was something amiss.

The trees were dying, gone were the crops, roads were covered with snow while the whole city was enveloped with extensive sheets of ice. The witch realm was not like the humans because the condition of their world had a connection to the emotional state of the king.

If the king was happy, the spring season would arrive, the flowers would bloom and the entire environment would become happy. However, if he felt sad, the storm of the vane would destroy the whole city. This time, when he was heartbroken, a sheet of ice covered the whole kingdom.

When the citizens saw the Duke, they pleaded for him to save the city from destruction because he alone had the capability to help the king returned to normal.

The Duke took the child with him and went to the king. He kept the child in his arms and pinched him hard. The baby started crying badly, which in turn, attracted the king's attention. After a brief glance, the king turned away again and kept his eyes at the portrait that hung on the wall.

After a short moment of silence, the Duke spoke, "Are you going to leave the last gift of your wife just like that? You know more than anyone else did that your wife was waiting for this child all her life. Then, you just ignore him, not even giving him the basic care he needs. If you continue doing this, he will also die, and leave you behind just like your wife. Do you think your wife will ever forgive you if that ever happens?"

When the king continued to ignore him, the Duke shook his head and implored for the last time for his king to listen. "Arthur, it is time that you take your responsibilities back and be the great king you have always been, and the great father you were meant to be."

After saying this, he slowly lowered the child in the arms of the king. For a long time, the king just looked at the baby, and then he started crying uncontrollably while hugging his child.

After a few hours, the whole realm turned back into a normal sunny day. The king came out with the baby and announced that the Kingdom had got their new prince and named him Alfred.

For the betterment of the child and giving him the love of his mother, the king decided to marry her wife's sister because she was blood-related to the child. Maybe she would take the best care of the baby and treat him like her own.

Days passed but the king never looked at her new bride or called her in his chamber. He just kept a keen eye on the way she took care of the baby.

He also assigned his wife's most loyal maid as the nanny of his baby. In this way, his baby would be well taken care of, at the same time, he would be informed of all the details that he needed to know. He was quite well aware of what it was like to lack motherly love, as he himself was the son of a lowly concubine.

Therefore, the former queen never gave the love and care he deserved. He did not want the same thing for his son.

After three weeks, with the continuous persuasion of his friend, Archduke Harold, he called his new wife into his chamber and ordered the servants not to disturb them for the whole night.

Next morning when they woke up, the new queen, Filicia left the room to check on the baby. She came back panicking and crying that the prince was not in his chamber, and so was her nanny. None of the maids had seen them since last night.

This brought completely new despair and shocked for the king who finally had started moving on with his life. This time the consolation of Harold was not working, the King was ready to burn the whole castle if he did not get his son back.
