13 Chapter 13

We mowed and got to Johns, house by midday. We mowed his yard, I put the trimmer in the middle of the driveway and rang his doorbell. "Jayden!" He smiled at me. "Is it in the spot?"

I nodded. "What are you going to do?"

"Test it's flexibility, See if we can work with it." He nodded. "I am Going to back the truck out, so we can use the tailgate like a workbench." He pointed to his brain. He disappeared in the house and closed the door. The garage opened, the truck backed out ran over the weed eater, it creaked groaned, then bent groaning. "It's no good." John chuckled leaning out of his window.

"What the hell?" Benny shouted running from the back yard.

"It wasn't flexable." John said as he hopped out of the truck.

"Are they supposed to be?" I asked.

"Nope!" John said as he picked it up, and held it like trophie.

"Then why did you test it?" I asked

"Cause there wasn't anything wrong with it, but you'll need a new one soon."

"Why?" I asked.

"The manager from the restaurant, is a friend, I may have mentioned at some time I was teaching you about business, And I may have made it a point to have him over while you mowed." He grinned. "Your work speaks for its self, and he has been complaining that it has been so hot so far this summer."

"That's, like a game of connecting the dots." Benny chuckled zigging and zagging his finger around.

"Well. let's go get you a trimmer." He said tossing the old in the truck.

"Could we get another broom?" I asked. "So it takes less time to clean up, that way one of us can collect the money, while the other finishes up faster."

"We can figure something out..." John sighed. "Come on." He drove them to the shop he carried the tested trimmer in.

"Ahh, it failed the flexibility, test" Chuck, chuckled. "Did, they believe that one too?"

"Nah." John shook his head. "They saw through both, just too polite say anything in public."

"Respect gets you a long way with people." He nodded at us.

"They are good with people, they got the beer and pizza thing down." John nodded, at us. "Well, the Pizza part."

"When someone does something nice for you, you do something, even if it is a little thing, like a cold beer and sharing a pizza with them." Chuck explained to us.

"We did that!" I nodded excitedly.

"The key is you shared it with me, humans were meant to talk, you put us together when we do something we have to do to like eat, and we talk. Devides in age, race, and gender can melt during dinner."

"Or explode." Chuck sighed "Just the timmer?"

"No, we need a leaf blower, the Might Leaf 250?"

"Which one will use it?" Chuck asked.

"Me!" I shot my hand up. Benny groaned. "Trimming sucks, so the portable wind tunnel is mine!" I huffed playfully. "Besides, You gotta collect the money, so I don't have to deal with Jenny." I sighed.

"She wants me to Be her Hot gay besite or whatever, and she didn't grab your butt."

"Please, it doesn't seem to bug you like it bugs me." I begged.

"Fine!"

"So the Mighty Leafe series, might be more 'Portal wind machine' than he can handle." He chuckled.

"True... Blowie-ma-tron?" Chuck asked.

"Blowie-Ma-Tron." John nodded.

"Ok, you're not going to tell me that is an actual..." I stopped when I saw the logo. "actually the name of a company..." I said losing all steam.

"No, that one is ok." Chuck laughed. "I get that one a lot, and it never gets old. They are good units, great for starters, waist and shoulder-mounted, and a bag hook up." He picked it up. "Thirty, two pounds, it is the lightest unit, on the market." He handed it to me and I put it on.

"Different." I said. "...but it's not bad". I counted the number of tools we had. "This, the broom just in case, the mower, the trimmer." Yea we need like seven hands now."

"How about a ranger?" John asked.

"The XP 1000?" He asked like surely he was wrong, John nodded. "That is a $24,000 VEHICLE."

"You have a license right?" We shook our head. "Learners permit?" He asked a bit more concerned. Benny nodded, he had only gotten three weeks ago. "See."

"It's your money, just insure the hell out of it." Chuck washed his hands from the transaction.

"Sure thing! Boss!" John Saluted, Chuck rolled his eyes. "Could I get that drop what you're doing shipped please?"

"Seriously?" Chucked groaned. "Do you have how much it would cost me to delay any shipment?"

"Come on you know I'm going for it." John leaned in.

"Never let him own you boys, he owns me and he knows it." He groaned. "Fine!" He picked up a phone. "The big man wants an X1000 airdropped to his place, five minutes ago...." He looked annoyed. " What do you mean which x1000? We only have the one!" He sighed and hung up the phone. "Jeremy, good kid, sometimes, he just needs to think." He drew up the papers, the three of us signed them, and we took John to where ever he wanted to go, which was arbies, which made us both happy. We Got to his house the men were unloading it. They looked, at John like he was crazy. He helped us load our things it, and made sure Benny could drive it.

"It stays in my garage, and I keep the Keys, this is not a toy." He paused. "Jayden until you get your license you cant drive it." I huffed. "ok Hufflepuff." He chuckled, Benny laughed, and I pushed Benny away. "It was funny Jayden." John sighed. I agreed. "But benny is not what I would call the ideal choice, but for right now... Iv your Mom, and Dad, say its ok, I'll teach you to drive." He smiled.

"Thanks!" I smiled at him. My dreams of driving had been put on permanent hold by my father.

"Benny If you run into something and break it you're going to pay me back for fixing by learning how to do it yourself." He preemptively warned.

"Well, I always have wanted a brick mailbox..." Benny chuckled.

"NOT A TOY!" He said sternly.

"Yes sir." We said, knowing we were standing a step past the line.

We drove to the next stop, the X1000. as a truck, but didn't need a driver license, to drive on a technicality, if you keep the speed below thirty, Which this had locked at 20, in fact, Benny tried to max it out. I estimated this saved us another twenty minutes in our day. We drove by dad, who waved at us confused. we Cleaned up or gear and went home.

"Boy's." Mom said I was pretty sure that was the 'your grounded tone' in her voice.

"She's mad isnt she?" I whispered.

"No shit." Benny whispered, walking to the dining room. "This isn't her your grounded tone though."

"So, that's a very nice toy." She smiled.

"I looked it up." Dad said looking at us. "It goes pretty fast." He crossed his arms.

"No it only goes 20, and John said he'd have the keys, and I could only use it in the neighborhood when we worked." Benny groaned.

"Yes, that is what we told him we would allow." Dad leaned in, and sat at the table, motioning us to join them.

"You knew?" Benny asked.

"Yea, he called, before he earlier, and wanted me to talk to your dad." Mom said.

"The point is this was a pretty big deal, you should have called us and asked us." Dad sighed and rubbed his forehead.

"This is en...." Benny started.

"No Benny this was not entrapment, and you're not in trouble, you two just have to realize, that what you are doing is very adult"

"And we couldn't be more proud of you!" Mom smiled.

"Hey Benny, we are Adulting!" I smirked at him

"There is a punishment." Dad grinned. Mom shot his a confused glance. "John is coming over Sunday."

"OH, no, I do not to want to kill him." Benny chuckled.

"Gee thanks!" I chuckled and pushed him.

"He is looking forward to the show." Dad smirked.

"Fine." I pouted.

"Who's daddy's little good boy?" Benny asked, then turned red, when I did. "I love you, babe." He mumbled.

"You know I heard the ending." Tom sighed. "So we already knew.."

"Everyone likes to be different from time to time." Mom smiled.
