8 CHAPTER-7

CHAPTER-7(MEETING PATIENTS)

Aubrey's POV

I must say so far my first day has gone so well that I can't even explain how well and when someday in my life goes this well then that means the upcoming days will be worse. It is calmness before the storm. Who knows what storm is waiting for me in the future.

Now Dr. Rachel is taking me to meet the patients.

We walked out of the lift and I came across the general ward, it was wide and big and everywhere you see you will find doctors, interns, nurses and patients and their relatives. We came across a nurse who seemed in her mid-thirties. She looked at Dr. Rachel and smiled, and this was a genuine smile.

Rachel: Hello Mrs. Collymore, how are you, meet Lieutenant Aubrey Huxley she is the new intern under Dr. Daniel.

Mrs. Collymore: Oh really, that's rare that we get an army intern in this hospital. Good to meet you dear, hope to work with you soon.

Rachel: Aubrey meet Mrs. Nicole Collymore, head nurse of general ward.

Me: It's nice to meet you Mrs. Collymore.

Rachel: She will be the attending doctor for patient 100 and 101 here, so please update it in the report.

Mrs. Collymore: Ohk by the way there nurse is Miss. Mia but she is not here or you guys could have met.

Me: Hmm, you guys denote patients with number rather than names, but why?

Mrs. Collymore: Oh yes dear, actually this is a easy way that we invented here, you are new so that's why this system would be hard to understand and remember in starting but later you will be comfortable with it. Actually, we do this way to avoid any mistakes.

Me: Mistakes like what?

Mrs. Collymore: Like the doctor asked to give IV to Mr. Dalton, but coincidently we have 2 Mr. Dalton, and the doctor for both of them is same and he forgot to mention which Mr. Dalton, so it might be hard for us as well as the patient. That is why this system was introduced.

Me: Oh, so this is the reason, hmm, now that I think about it, it is a really easy way and even it is comfortable for nurses, doctors and patients.

Rachel: Yeah exactly that is why, so how about we meet your patients, and Mrs. Collymore do update her name as attending doctor for these two patients, or we might forget later.

Mrs. Collymore: Sure dear, I will do this immediately, meet you both later.

Rachel, Me: Bye.

----------------------

Rachel: Good morning Mr.100, how ae you feeling today, I hope it is not paining anymore, let me introduce you to your new attending doctor, this is Lieutenant Aubrey Huxley, she is an army doctor and she will be doing her internship in this hospital. I hope you get familiar with her soon, and let's hope you get healthy and then discharged soon.

100: Thank you so much for wishes doctor, and I am sure I will get healthy soon now that I have an army doctor as my doctor, I really am lucky.

ME: You flatter me sir, but I'll make sure that you became healthy soon, I will be meeting you later while I come back for my rounds meet, hope you have a good day ahead.

100: Thank you doctor, meet you later, hope you also have a good day ahead.

ME: Thank you sir.

Rachel: Hey boy, 101, hope you are getting better, and definitely you heard us talking to the other patient, so meet your new doctor, Lieutenant Aubrey Huxley.

101: Hello doctor, please take good care of me, make sure I also become healthy soon and go back home.

ME: Sure, I will it's my duty now, make sure to eat and take your medicines on time and you might get discharged soon okay.

Rachel: He was injured during a motorcycle accident, he sprained his right leg and scratched his left elbow, he is already here from last 4 days so he surely will be getting discharged soon.

ME: Hmm, he is looking pretty good to me, 2-3 days of rest and he will be okay. You are having a pretty good recovery, stay strong and you will be fine soon.

101: Hm, okay doctor.

ME: Good then I'll meet you later during my rounds, bye.

101: Bye doctor.

------------------------------------------

Rachel: You are really good with patients as if you already know them, you know mostly if the doctor is changed during treatment, patients are very angry but that is not the case with you, I mean they accepted you so easily, you know you have that, what you call it, hmm, yeah, way with words.

'Yeah, I get that lot "way with words".'

After hearing what Dr. Rachel said I remembered the day I went for my interview for Army Medical Collage, the interviewers there were quite impressed by my way of speaking, my commanding officer was also part of the group of those interviewers and he said it to me that I have a way with words, I can make a negative sentence into positive one with just my way of speaking and according to him this was my best ability.

Also my school friends used to call me GODMAP (goddess of deception, manipulation and persuasion), because whenever one of them were in trouble I used to make up some stories to save them, and the stories seemed so real that everyone believed it. Being in a profession like this one cannot lie, but I only used to do this when we were in quite a big trouble and were near to getting detention letter. Me and my friends were very notorious group and every of our teacher was angry with us but still everyone loved us because we were really good at studies and this was the only reason that we were not terminated from school. Our principle was a very strict disciplinarian and my commanding officer always reminds me of him. They are the people of country, both work hard to power up their country in every possible. They are my source of motivation, they proved that dreams come true.

A creative mess is better than idle tidiness.
