16 Chapter-15

Aubrey was practically running towards the apartment that she shared with her collage senior Rebecca Bancroft. She was all one could ask for a sister and she took care of Aubrey as if she was her elder biological sister. They shared a special bond and had a special place in their hearts for each other. But this was not the time to think of all this because Aubrey was being followed by a complete stranger and that too someone of 6'feet tall height and a built of warrior. Even though Aubrey herself was 5 feet 8 inch tall and of a nice built and knew martial arts still she was feeling tiny in front of the guy or maybe it was because of the mysterious aura that he possessed.

Aubrey reached the apartment that she shared with Rebecca. The apartment was on the old limestone building at 11 Fehling street. Even though the apartment was on the old limestone building still it felt like home every time Aubrey saw it with canopies growing till the 3rd level of the building. Her apartment was on 1st floor and to reach it there were stairs outside, old but good enough to function. It was Rebecca's family who owned this apartment.

Aubrey took the stairs and rushed towards the door of the apartment, even though she had the keys, she still banged on the door to show the mysterious stranger that she was not alone. She knocked on the door and looked at the distance, where she found the stranger looking at her without hesitation, he was looking at her like the scientist who looks at his experiment rat. Feeling uneasy from the stare Aubrey again knocked on the door, this time harder, when she looked back at the street where the mysterious stranger was standing, she found it empty, she looked here and there but the mysterious stranger was not to be seen anywhere it was as if he vanished in thin air. Was someone actually following her or was it just hallucination? Was someone actually standing at the street in front of her apartment building and staring at her continuously or was it her mind playing games with her? Her thoughts were interrupted by the voice of opening of door and she turned around to come face to face with Rebecca who had her apron on, on her night dress and a bun made up of her brown hair leaving some tendrils making her look perfect even without trying. It was her who taught Aubrey everything that a girl needed to know, she was like a elder sister to Aubrey.

'Aubrey, what happened you look out of breath and you are also 20 minutes late from your actual time. I was about to call you and ask.'

'Ah, I came walking from the hospital, that's why.'

'Walking, why did you not find a taxi or bus, you could have called me, I would have picked you up.'

'No, actually I wanted to walk, you know it is good for your health and also I needed to clear my head.'

'Clear your head? Why, did something happened at work?'

That's when Aubrey remembered all that happened throughout the day at work, she almost forgot it as her mind was completely occupied by the appearance of the mysterious stranger, but she did not wanted to worry Rebecca.

'Nothing serious Unni, let me come in first and then I'll tell you.'

'Oh, yeah I completely forgot you were standing outside and the silly me started interrogating you, come in, come fast sweetie.'

Aubrey entered the apartment, put her shoes in the rack and as soon as she entered the living room she was welcomed by the smell of red sauce pasta, one of the favorite dish of Aubrey. The smell almost made her forget her worries until Rebecca asked her, "Sweetie, you look tensed, what happened, did someone bully you at work, tell me the name of the person who needs a good beating." Aubrey smiled at her Unni's word and replied, "Who has the guts to bully me Unni, I'll go change and take a shower, you set the table until then and we'll talk while having dinner, okay". Okay, replied Rebecca. Aubrey went to her room as if nothing happened but Rebecca who has known Aubrey since the starting of the collage, knew something was off with Aubrey but she decided to not pressure her as she will eventually come and tell her, so she set the table for dinner and waited for Aubrey to come. As soon as Aubrey came they started eating dinner.

'How's food?'

'Perfect like always, you don't even need to ask.'

'Hmm, you were going to tell me something?'

'Ah, yeah.'

While taking a shower Aubrey thought that the mysterious stranger might be one of her fratello Major V's man, so she decided to ask him about this first then only she will tell anything about this matter to her Unni. Seeing her lost in her own world of thought, Rebecca clapped in front of her face, bringing her back to reality.

'Now that you are acting all strange like this, I am tensed, tell me what happened, right now.'

'Nothing Unni, it's just that…..'

'Shoot.'

'Your Dr. Brown scolded me.'

'Firstly, he is not mine, well not yet. Secondly, he scolded you, I can't believe it.'

'Neither can I, but he did.'

'Why did he scolded you, what was the reason.'

'You remember I messaged you and told you about the patient and how he knew about the terrorist and all that happened.'

'Yes, you did, so?'

'Well when the hospital chief called and told me to sign the discharge papers of the patient and I told him that his primary doctor was Dr. Brown so I have to inform him regarding the discharge and all, so he told me to do it and he himself will tell Dr. Brown about what happened as he was not knowing anything about the case and my involvement in it. So I said okay.'

'And then?'

'And then, I think the chief forgot to inform Dr. Brown of the situation as almost at the end of my shift Dr. Brown called me and asked him how I discharged one of HIS patient without his permission. I told him I took permission from chief and how he said he will inform him about it and suddenly he got angry and then asked me to leave, I tried to explain but he straight away asked me to leave, not even giving me a chance to explain myself, this is the reason why I am sad.'

'He did that, did he? Sorry but I still can't believe it, I mean everyone in our work line know how composed he is regarding professional matter and how well he handles it, I think the actual reason is something else.'

'Yeah, I also think so, that's why I did not pressed the matter more and decided to send him a message after coming home, telling him everything in detail.'

'You are right you should tell him everything and in detail, but don't message now it will be late, talk to him calmly, face to face after you go to work tomorrow, okay.'

'Yeah, you are right, it is better to talk tomorrow.'

'Good now go and sleep, I am also very tired.'

'Yes, good night Unni.'

'Good night sweetie and don't worry everything will be alright.'

'Yes, thank you.'

With that Aubrey and Rebecca both went to their respective rooms. Rebecca went to sleep immediately but Aubrey's mind was clouded with the thoughts of the mysterious stranger, so she decided to call.

'Ciao, fratello.' (Hello, brother)

This suspense is terrible. I hope it will last.
