2 Chapter 2 : Surprise!!!

Amy faced the elevator as she waited in front of it for Kiya's arrival on the topmost floor of the building. There was a major shareholder's meeting at eight and she had less than 10 minutes to accompany her boss there.

The elevator pinged and suddenly opened. Amy immediately greeted her boss as she stepped out of the elevator. It was her duty as Kiya's assistant to always be available to assist her, even though she saw her boss the same way other employees saw her: as a cold, strict, and unfeeling person whose first love was her company.

"Surprisingly, the fact that we fired two people last week because of their incompetence has in no way affected the rest of the employees on the second floor," Kiya said the moment she stepped out of the elevator as she continued walking at a steady pace in the direction of her office.

Amy struggled to keep the exact same pace as she listened to every word that was being said.

"I walked into the second floor this morning and I saw the tall, arrogant man in accounting talking confidently in a loud voice as he called me crazy," Kiya said with a neutral expression on her face, looking at Amy for confirmation that she knew who the employee was.

Shocked that an employee would have the courage to do such a thing. Amy hung her mouth open in surprise.

Without hesitation, she recalled the exact details of the employee Kiya was referring to.

"His name is Archie. What would you like me to do with him?" She asked curious to know what Kiya's plans were.

"Screen his account records, If they are up to date, then do nothing. I do not think he would boldly have the courage to speak again on that floor. Also, how often are you checking that pervert's work records?" Kiya asked, with a slight frown on her face as she recalled something with disgust.

Amy didn't have to ask who her boss was referring to since she already knew who it was. His name was David and he also worked on the second floor. She had seen him a couple of times starring at Kiya the same way a small ant would stare at a big cube of sugar.

"Every day. But surprisingly, he does his work well without any errors," answered Amy as she wondered how a repulsive person like him can be so good at his job.

After a couple of seconds of walking in silence, they both arrived in front of Kiya's office.

With a single look, Kiya informed Amy that she wouldn't be needing her inside the office.

"I'll head to the board room now with the required documents even though we still have about five more minutes to the start of the meeting," said Amy, indirectly informing Kiya that she only had a few minutes more before she needed to appear.

Without expecting a response Amy watched Kiya enter her office, as she closed the door behind her.

The moment Kiya entered her beautifully furnished office, the first thing she did was take off her heels before moving to sit on the nearest sofa on her left.

"Who the hell, made such an unspoken rule that Women CEOs had to wear heels," Kiya thought as she stretched her toes to relieve them.

She would have preferred to lie down but one look at the wall clock in her office and she knew that she couldn't afford to be late.

Moreover, she could already imagine the stares she would get from the Old-fashioned shareholders in her company if she walked into the meeting with a rumpled shirt and strands of hair poking out from her tightly packed bun.

They would add that to the many reasons why they all thought she was unqualified to continue running the company.

It's a good thing they couldn't do anything about it since she had the highest number of more than 48% shares.

She took another look at the clock only to discover that she barely had two more minutes to the start of the meeting. Sighing out loud, she quickly grabbed her pair of heels from where she had left them on the rug.

As the CEO, she couldn't be too early and at the same time, she dare not be late.

She hurriedly wore it and stood up to check her appearance in the round mirror closest to her by the minibar.

After making sure that everything was in order, she stepped out of her office and headed to the board room.

She barely saw one or two assistants scurrying around since almost everyone whose office was on her floor had to attend the monthly report meeting she had called.

She got to the board room in no time and took one last look at her wristwatch to confirm that she was indeed right on time, before opening the door and stepping in.

The moment she entered all eyes were on her as every person in the room turned to look at her, even the people that had been talking amongst themselves.

Kiya moved towards her seat making sure to let her heels echo in the otherwise quiet room.

Amy was already standing next to her seat at the head of the table and as Kiya sat down she could already see the large bulk of documents that had been placed in front of her.

She silently grumbled within herself as she mentally calculated how many hours the meeting would take.

Every action she took was under intense observation so she couldn't call for more than two breaks. If she did, she might start hearing rumors about how her newfound love was food and how inept she was at running the company.

Without prolonging the inevitable, she picked up the first set of documents in the pile with the label "Human Resource document" and brought it closer to her side before turning to the first page of the report.

"Let's begin," she said in an audible voice loud enough for the thirty people seated around the table to hear.

"Today is the eleventh of March in the year two thousand and nineteen and...,"

Kiya was still speaking when the brightness of the morning gradually started to dim. She stopped talking and took a glance at the square glass windows on the left side of the room only to discover that the sky had completely darkened and the day had suddenly turned into night.

The bulbs were bright enough to illuminate every face in the room as gasps and loud whispers began to rise from every corner of the room as no one could explain what was happening.

Kiya was about to lose the sense of calm that she had until she remembered that she was in charge and she could under no condition show any fear.

"Everyone please calm down, I'm sure that there's a reasonable explanation for what is hap..."

Kiya was still speaking when every light in the room and in every building around went off.

"...pening?" She said as her eyesight was plunged into darkness.
