1 Chapter 1: When the Unexpected Happens.

Hosten's Enterprise: A tall building with more than 10 floors.

Employees worked on the lower levels while the heads of various departments worked on the higher floors.

The first floor was the lobby where visitors were received before being directed to the floor they needed to go.

The second floor was a wide office space, separated by cubicles, small enough to accommodate one office worker.

Men and women dressed in varying colors of dark suits either sat in their respective seats while some stood in small groups, whispering and talking in soft tones to one another.

The atmosphere was lively but anyone with a sharp eye would be able to tell that the people standing and discussing with their colleagues had an uneasy way, they carried themselves.

"I would advise everyone standing and Chatting to get back to their seats," said a middle-aged, black-haired man sitting by the window suddenly in an elevated pitch different from the ones the other employees were using.

"Relax, David. The moment her car, is parked in the driveway, Jack over there will warn us," said a tall man dressed in a black suit pointing at another employee sitting close to to the window three cubicles away from David.

"We all learnt a lesson a month ago when, Sarah had unknowingly yelled at Luke for borrowing her stapler when he couldn't find his," continued the tall lanky man as he sat on the edge of his table. His cubicle was the closest to the elevator and he talked without any tense feelings whatsoever in a voice that was neither too loud nor low.

" It shocked even me, when the boss suddenly appeared and Whoosh..., "slicing his hand through the invisible air in front of him.

"both of them got fired before the end of the day,"

The tall guy suddenly got up and said using a slightly deeper tone than usual.

"Our boss is just Crazy. What the hell does she have against us talking to each other? If we don't talk what else would we do with the spare time that we have?" he asked stretching his palms wide open at his sides.

The moment he said that a soft female voice spoke a few steps away from the elevator.

"I expect you to work," she said as everyone froze and her heels became the only sound that could be heard on the entire floor.

Almost everyone had been listening to him talk including David, the man who sat close to the window pretending to type important documents on his computer. But the moment he heard the sweet and familiar voice of his boss, his hands stopped in mid-air as though it was being held there by a higher power.

While Archie, the tall guy that had been speaking with extreme confidence, wanted nothing more than for the ground to swallow him whole. He had been so distracted with what he had been saying that he had not paid any attention to the sound of the elevator.

He didn't have to confidence to look at his boss knowing fully well that she just heard him call her crazy. So the only person he looked at without turning his head was Jack, the person that was meant to warn them of the arrival of the boss.

Jack saw Archie look at him and he quickly took his face away, picking up a bunch of papers on his

desk, pretending to scroll through each word with his hands without actually reading a single one.

David was the only one who lifted his head to look at Kiya, his boss in all her glorious beauty. She wore a short black pencil skirt that brought out the beautiful shape of her legs coupled with a white long-sleeved top which she tucked into the skirt.

She seemed to look at every one of her employees except for David as if making sure that each of them was accounted for. She visited every floor at least once a week and this particular behavior always had a way of pissing David off.

He was single and before he joined the company, he had admired Kiya and she was one of the reasons why he joined in the first place. David felt that even though he was only about 20 years older than her, there was still a 50% chance of her liking him.

Squeezing his hands tightly into a fist, he whispered internally to himself that as long as he had the will to pursue her, there would always be a way to get her.

Amidst the silence on the whole floor, David watched Kiya head to another set of elevators at the other side of the floor and enter one of them, as even the hard-working employees that typed on their keyboards did so softly, not wanted to draw Kiya's attention to themselves.

The moment she was gone, every employee on the floor breathed a sigh of relief except Archie. He was so shocked that he had forgotten to stand up from the table he had been sitting on.

As he moved to sit on his chair in his cubicle, he caught other employees giving him different looks of pity.

He sat quietly on his seat placing his two elbows on his table, using his two hands to cover his face as he tried his best to hold back tears from falling from his face.

He had a pregnant wife and a lot of expenses that he was yet to pay.

He usually acted courageously but the fear of possibly losing his job made him act like a man in despair.

Jack suddenly stood up from his seat and headed for Archie's cubicle. He felt that he was partly at fault for being distracted and not warning him in time. He decided to go over to apologize.

He got to his cubicle and saw Archie raise his head to look at him.

Archie gave Jack a look filled with pure hate and as he watched him open his mouth to speak, he threw a punch and punched him right in the nose, or at least that was what he imagined himself doing to Jack. Instead, he bent his head and placed it on the table, wondering what his fate would be.

Jack silently returned to his seat.
