1 When the World Seemed Small

When the world seemed small,

Everything was limited to the walls surrounding my home

And the fences around the school building.

When my imagination was the only form of entertainment I could find,

Dolls and ice cream were the highlight of the hour

And homework was nothing but coloring pages I finished by solving a math problem.

When kindness was a normality in classrooms,

The golden rule was considered the meaning of life and the phrase "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all" was still an effective comeback.

But when the walls expanded,

And the fences disappeared,

There was no longer anything left for me to imagine.
