This thing called life

"Momma!" Rain called outside banging on the door. The sounds of footsteps hitting the floor angrily drew closer as the door was suddenly swung open revealing the face of a very enraged, 5'8 middle-aged lady. "Are you out of your mind, little girl?" The lady called Momma said, looking extremely pissed off.

"I left my binder in your car and it's locked. So...could you hurry up and open the door. You know I can't be late for school anymore. Mr. Perry likes to lock his door as soon as the bell rings and we have a really important test today. So, I can't be late." Rain said, pleading for Momma to hurry up.

"Well, maybe you shouldn't have left it in my car in the first place." Momma started leaning against the door getting comfortable. Momma pulled out a pack of cigarettes before taking out one and lighting it up, appearing as though she had all the time in the world.

At this point, Rain knew exactly what Momma was doing. Stalling. It wasn't that Momma didn't care about what Rain had going on, but in a way, she really didn't. Not to mention that this was the fifth time, this month that Rain had woken her out of her sleep for something according to Momma that was, stupid.

"Momma please! I'm so sorry. Just please give me the car keys. I'll do whatever you need me to do later I promise. I really need to go now." Rain pleaded again. Momma just stared at her with a blank expression on her face, before flicking the cigarette on the ground and grinding her foot on it to make sure it was out. She looked up at Rain with a grin on her face, making Rain roll her eyes in annoyance.

"Momma stops playing, this is serious!" Rain shouted, getting frustrated. Momma put her hands up in surrender before a full-blown smile had spread across her. She pointed towards the car and let out a loud laugh.

"Girl...relax, I unlocked the car as soon as I heard you banging on my door. Go get it and go away. Unlike you, I value my beauty sleep, honey." Momma said strutting back into her house shutting the door.

Momma was considered 'good people.' She was always there for everyone in the neighborhood and Rain for as long as she could remember. Despite her cold exterior, once you really got to know her you'll be surprised at how she'll never let you down.

Momma's house was literally down the street from the school. Rain glanced at the time panicking school started at 7:15. It was 7:13. Momma really did waste her time on purpose. Rain would just get her back later, but first, she had more important things to handle. She picked up the pace and began to run like a track star.

Rain ran up the steps to her high school, passed her locker, up the stairs, and just as she reached the door the bell rang. Mr. Perry who was by the door waiting eagerly slammed it shut and locked it the same time Rain tried to walk in. Rain slumped against the wall in anger and tugged at the door ferociously. Mr.Perry gave her a stern look meaning to go get a pass and Rain glared at him.

The bell rang its final notice and Rain was now officially tardy.

"Great, just freaking great!' She thought angrily.

She sighed and shook her head sadly picked up her book bag on her shoulder more and headed to detention in defeat. She really did try this time. It was like the whole world was completely against her. She glanced back at Mr. Perry's locked door and internally cursed at him.

"Mr. Perry open the door! I was almost there and you know it!" Rain shouted making Mr. Perry glared at her. "Go get a tardy slip, you insolent child!" He shouted back from behind the glass making her let out a small scream.

"Welcome to Salverse High."She mumbled to herself before she walked off to the front office as usual.
