2 The New World

Melvin groaned. His head was aching as several flashes of light was shone on his vision. Then the brightness has descended and everything became clear.

He noticed he was lying on the warm grasses. Gazing up was the pale blue sky. The sun's warm light was even showering him.

Melvin smiled. He then laughed aloud. "Looks like I have gone isekai."

That was the only explanation. Vesna wasn't known for the oak trees that he could see. This must be a different world. He must have died in some way.

Checking his body, he was still wearing a formal black suit with a red tie. He was still his usual self. "I'm not an attractive young master, huh? Isn't this the time someone should call me a young master?"

He then stood up and rubbed the specks of dust off his clothes. Looking around, he was in the middle of the thick forest. He couldn't see any road or city.

Melvin patted his pocket. Looks like he still had his colt 1911. Everything before that alien truck that hit them was still intact, his wallet, clothes, and face. Though he only had 1 magazine with 7 rounds for the weapon. He needed something to defend himself.

Melvin was prepared for this moment. This was a new world where he would encounter magical beasts, cat-girls, and a princess in distress. This was where he thought he could show off the marvels of the modern world.

The only thing he could do was to find a catgirl.

As he walked, he came across a woman lying on the ground. Melvin smiled. He already expected this girl to be someone from a magical race from this world.

Though her suit was awfully familiar.

"Miss are you okay?"

She groaned and looking at her face, Melvin was taken aback.

It was his secretary. "Miss Celine?!" He was confused. If this was in another world then he couldn't have brought his secretary. This was weird.

Celine Ferdinand was a 26-year-old woman with tall stature, she had her glasses on. She had a curvy waists and hips. She was the secretary who would often remind him of his informal behaviors at the office. He knew she was concerned for her. But even a president is just a human.

Celine was a hard worker and would often be there for him with one call. She was also adept in muay thai since her grandparents were from thailand. She used to be a championship MMA fighter on women's sports. She only quitted after Melvin took her in as his secretary.

The only reason he hired her was so that he could have a capable fighter and sexy secretary by his side. But he disliked some of her personality.

And to be honest, Melvin didn't want her here since he couldn't act out his fantasies in this world. He would just get scolded with her around.

Celine managed to wake up. She took off her glasses and rubbed her eyes. "Sir? Is that you? Where are we?" She slowly stood up and looked around in confusion.

Melvin scratched his neck. He shrugged. "I'm not even sure."

Then just not too far from them, a bald and burly man with a black suit stood up. Speak of the devil, it was his top personal guard. His name was Rederick Valgus.

He was a huge man, his neutral face would scare the kids and worry the adults, but Melvin knew he was a warm and kind person.

One annoying thing about him, as he was too clingy. He would even follow him to the comfort room if he wasn't given a reminder. But he was at ease with him. Rederick was using double-uzi submachine gun with him. It was hidden beneath his suit. He didn't like pistol since its rounds were few.

He used to be a bouncer from one of the most chaotic bars in the city. Due to his dedication and professional demeanor, Melvin took a liking to him.

Rederick gasped when he saw Melvin. "Mr. President! I'm glad you're fine." He then rushed close to him. "Anyway, we need to return to our country."

Melvin sighed. "We can't. Think about this carefully, we just got hit by a mysterious asteroid and we were sent to someplace that isn't my office. There is no way we can go back since we don't know where we are."

"Yeah, you're right. That's weird. Are you sure that we weren't kidnapped?"

"No one would send an asteroid just so they can kidnap us."

Rederick stroked his chin. "Hmm, you're right Mr. President. So, what do you have in mind?"

"Hmm." Melvin checked his phone. There was no signal.

Celine held up her phone as well. She was calling. But there was no signal. She was fidgeting, walking to and fro. Wiping her forehead from concern.

"Guys, listen carefully," Melvin told them to gather. "For now, we should assume some things. We are in isekai."

"Huh? Isekai? You mean from those overseas cartoons?" Celine spoke.

Melvin raised his eyebrow. "Anime ain't from cartoons you know. I mean... Let's just assume that we are in another world. How about that?"

Celine sighed. "You know sir, can you stop thinking about anime even for one second? Our lives are in danger and we don't know where we are? Can you take this seriously, please? There is no way we are in another world." She seemed frustrated. "Somebody must have kidnapped us."

Melvin hushed her. He sharpened his hearing. "I can hear something." There was some noise coming from their right.

"Rederick, Celine, follow me with caution." The three of them slowly walked to the source of the noise.

At some point, they came across a dirt road. It was running endlessly even beyond their peripheral vision, but mostly on its sides were just the endless trees.

They hid behind a tree and peeked. They noticed a horse drawn-wagon being driven by an old man who was close by. Melvin's eyes widened. "Looks like we are in another world."

Celine wasn't convinced. "It's too early for that, you are aware that there is still a horse-drawn carriage being used right? In rural areas."

"Look at how it's built. That is not the carriage you can find in our world." It had a medieval vibe and its architecture was basic.

"Umm, you know that there are people who like to cosplay or experience different things right?"

"Why don't we just ask h--" Melvin got cut off when he saw Rederick already approaching the old man.

Melvin was worried since the old man would get frightened to see him. Rederick's looks were threatening and battle inviting after all.

"Hey old man," Rederick spoke with a deep voice. It was his usual voice but it sounded like a scold.

The old man winced. He whipped the halter causing the horse to gallop fast. The old man muttered an indiscernible language but he was angry and scared.

"Oh, there he goes." The carriage passed by them.

Celine gave a nod. "That's right, we might be somewhere in Europe. Probably, right in the northern area.

Melvin shook his head. "There's no way we are in Europe, the temperature during this season is cold. We've been there once you know, when we uhh..."

"Loan from the world bank?"

"Well, yeah." Melvin didn't like to bring up that topic since he felt like he was being pressed to solve it immediately. But he was confident he was in a different world, it only means that he evaded their 6 trillion debt from the world bank.

It's like when someone had a debt and dies but instead of a person, a country. He as a president was happy with that.

Melvin then stared on the dirt road. "For now let's follow where this road leads. There will be a settlement at some point."

The team agreed thus they walked under the heat of the brimming sun. It was close to noon. They managed to encounter a clear river on their way. They could drink water now.

They were surprised at how clean and reflective it was. In their world, rivers would get easily polluted.

"Finally, it has been too hot. I can finally refresh myself!" Celine was excited. When she was about to remove her clothes, she then stared at the two guys with fierce eyes.

Melvin and Rederick were stiff as a rock. They then looked away as they whistled.

Eventually, the two left in dismay since Celine was upset with them around.

Melvin was staring up at the apple found on the tree. It was just an ordinary apple. Since he was feeling somewhat hungry, he decided to climb and eat it.

Rederick was worried below. "Mr. President, what are you doing?"

"Rederick, let me tell you that in here you can't treat me as usual unless I can return to my office." Melvin was clambering the trunk, he then took hold, then up and tettered while walking on the branches. Below him was a few feet drop.

He grinned as he grabbed the apples.

Rederick let out a sigh. "You're giving me a heart attack."

To Melvin's surprise, the apple transformed into a red bird that flew up. "Eh?!" He was surprised. He almost lost his balance and his body was tottering.

Rederick's jaw fell. His eyes widened. "Ah! Mr. President!"

Melvin managed to grab another branch and he was saved. "It looks like I'm fine." He laughed.

"Mr. President! This is no laughing matter!"

"Yeah, sorry, sorry. But it confirms one thing. We are in another world. You never saw these things around." Melvin went down quickly to the ground. He noticed the red bird was hovering in the air, flapping its wings, staring at them.

Melvin stared back. "Hello there strange bird from another world, do you want to know the importance of freedom and democracy?" He laughed.

"Looks like the American blood is within you," Rederick commented.

The bird flew down and poked Melvin's head repeatedly.

"Ouch, ouch. As I thought, this bird got annoyed from listening, must be a communist. Rederick, deal with it with the usual "freedom way"." Melvin tried to shoo it away but it was poking him with its beak.

Rederick grabbed a stick and swayed it in the air, trying to scare it but it kept on attacking Melvin.

"Mr. President, I can't hit it."

Celine came from the river, she sighed seeing the two. "What are those two doing?" She went close. "Sir, I think I found a village somewhere close."

To her surprise, in the distance, she saw a winged lion growling. It was staring at them with its fierce eyes and only danger awaited them.
