16 Chapter 14

The apocalypse brought forth monsters and mutated animals to earth. It also brought a lot of changes to humanity.

This changes made the people despair, but it also made them stronger and capable.

This changes balanced the world. And just a slight tilt will end up with one race to extinction. It was frightening, but its the only way to survive.

Normally, people would despair completely against such circumstances, but humans have the ability to adapt and even able to harden their hearts and mentality. They were a formidable species.

Humans has no powers unlike any other novel's trope. They had no power to conjure fire out of something, nor do they have the ability to evoke lightning or manipulate wind and gravity. There's no space and no spring water to heal one's injury nor infection. It was truly a despairing world.

However, watching the humans in front of him struggle as they fought with such fierceness, Bastian couldn't helped but wonder what drives people to survive. He, as a human, seemed quite lacking in comparison to these people. They fought aggressively, and work efficiently, just like a well maintained cogs working together to bring out the atmost perfect product or result.

Watching them also made him think how shallow his view of the world was. He, as a man who's from another world, is truly lacking. What with his priority and lack of ambitions. He's here not because he wants to live a few more years, but rather to experience the excitement and joy of being able to experience worlds and scenarios after scenarios, just like a well thought roleplay that he needs to play. His excitement stemmed from the fact that he had a very monotonous life from the moment he was born to the moment that the time kept on repeating, as well as the cliches he had the trouble of encountering from his daily life.

He can say that he was bored out of his mind and does not truly take his task seriously.

However, it seems that meeting new people is interesting as well- Meeting Martin, that is.

Bastian watched solemnly as the fast approaching car finally entered their scope of attack, watched as the humans inside it filled with relief as they realized that the people in front of them seemed to help them. Bastian couldn't helped but frown , thinking -'ah, what a bastard.' Truly, it was a vicious thought. Because if he can, he would totally abandon this fuckers, he wouldn't want to waste his Time and resources just to help them bunch of useless things.

Bastian glanced at Martin steadily standing beside him. His hands gripping his gun while watching, before he raised his left hand to signal the attack. The team assigned to fire immediately rained their bullets at the undead running and following the dirty and wretched car. With tense body posture, some of them immediately launched their attacks of beheading the slow moving ones. Compared to nightwalkers, the undead in front of them seemed like a waste of space. Truly useless. Their might came from their numbers only. They were not durable nor they move so fast that the eyes cannot keep up. They were just a normal body undergoing a slow rigor mortis. It was truly disgusting.

Bastian sigh. Averting his gaze from the decaying mass of fleshy bodies, just seeing the worms and internal organs hanging or dangling from its bluish body made him want to bomb them with nukes, thinking to himself- 'Out of sight out of mind'.

"Ahh. What a refreshing smell!" Rod muttered. His face looked ugly. Bastian gave him a look, thinking how the man's face wrinkled seemed to resembled his horse butthole when it ate something bad for its tummy. Just remembering it made him shudder. It was not like he watched it's butt at that time. He just happened to pass by and want to take it for a ride but how would he know that the horse is undergoing its battle of the century? That's one a hell of a nightmare.

He took back his gaze, fixing it on Martin who seemed to find it enjoyable being watched. Although his face seemed so unaware and innocent, Bastian can see that slight tilting upwards of his lips. This made him even more sure, he's probably into some kinky shit.

Just as this thought entered his mind, a curse finally broke on his lips, making Martin stunned and stared at him with a very complex gaze. "What did you just think about?" to make you cursed like that?

Bastian remained silent, thinking how the hell did his mind conjured so many useless and nightmare inducing thoughts for a spun of a few minutes. It was probably from meeting the system. He's finally seeing the side effects.

System: "...." Host...

Bastian sighed. He then held his Katana like sword tightly. Eyes glimming with excitement as complete forgot his earlier transgressions. It will be the very first time he'd be able to put what he had learned to good use. Because his original world is safe, most of the time, he hadn't even able to punch a man or even killed anyone during his whole lifetime.

Bastian stared intently at the raging battle. His eyes never leaving the large black things moving forward like some kind of destruction machine, out to annihilate everything on its path.

"Keep up with me." Martin voiced as he moved swiftly.

Bastian followed, his heavy combat boots creating a heavy thunping sound. With no time to spare watching the others deal with the other nightwalkers, Bastian, held his Katana like sword tightly. He slid to his left, eveading the large piece of rotten meat and bones, going after him, with ease. He raised the sword, the sharpness of it meeting the the nightwalkers meaty arms, creating a squelching sound. The skin of the creature looks like it was covered by some dark juice, making it seemed slimy.

It's large build does not affect its movement, it only made its blow heavy and its strength truly is astonishing despite its rotting flesh.

Its large protruding eyes looked like it was about to roll out of its head and its large fangs dripping some goo, just like the slimy thing covering its body.

The nightwalkers simply smelled disgusting. It was enough to make anyone nauseous.

Bastian moved fast, eyes glittering with cautiousness and unconcealed excitement.

His heart thumping loudly, as breath through his nose. His chest heaving yet he seemed unaffected by all the extrenous movement he just did.

The creature reached for him, its large clawed hand made a grabbing motion. However, Bastian didn't dodge. Instead, he made a slashing motion, his muscles tight, as his leg force pushed down against the hard ground to prevent himself from slipping due to the force of his opponent. The katana like word met its hand, cutting it in half. The creature screeched, then used its other clawed hand to attack, however, Bastian simply meet the attack head on. His stance is steady despite the fierce and heavy blow. He spun himself, then jumped up to meet its eye level, before slashing his sword sideward. The metal reflect light, thus, the motion of cutting it can be seen clearly, it looks clean and smooth cut.

Bastian's lips twitch as the rotting smell doubled after he slayed the creature, however, he had no time to dwell on this matter. He hurriedly moved to help the others.

The people who saw the way Bastian handled the nightwalker were stunned. They didn't expect that someone is so capable and looks like on par with Martin.

Thinking that they even have more chance to live with the two powerful people with them, the others turned to do their job as well. They fired and killed the slow witted undead. Trying their best not to get in the way of those fighting the nightwalkers.

They know it's not over yet.

There's many nightwalker out to get them. They had to minimize the damage and prevent themselves in becoming cannon fodder uselessly.

Dying is not a problem. But dying pathetically while dragging the people around you is truly disgusting. Thus, they all fired consciously, avoiding wasting the bullets they brought.

With such a team, they hoped that a simple cautiousness and awareness will lighten the teams heavy burden. They don't want to be a pig teammate. What they were fighting for is more than for survival but also for the future.

They must live to see what the future may become.

The future with antidote and cure against the virus.

With that thought, the team composed of various groups worked well together. It can be seen that humanity still remains.
