Chapter 2: Life is for the Birds.

The mirror faded, leaving the little bird's heart broken.

"There there, little one. You can move on with a light heart. You saved all your siblings as well as those two human children. You have accumulated enough merit to become a human in the next life. The place you'll reincarnate in is filled with magic and fantasy. You'll have all the fun you didn't get to have in your short bird life"

Cheep chi chi? The little bird questioned how it would be re-united with its bird family if they didn't die from the truck.

"Ah yes. We plucked all your siblings from the end of their lives you see. You are actually the last to be reincarnated due to time differential and calculations you probably wouldn't understand seeing that birds aren't built to be good at mathematics in general. These details are cosmically inconsequential. All your other siblings don't know they've been reborn. They'll love you though. You'll be like real relatives eventually. They are all on the planet that we're sending you to. With luck, you'll be able to grow up knowing them, which is good. At any rate you'll be given some blessings as well. Live well little birdie. You can find them if you like. Or leave them to live their own human lives. Since you are a bird, all the blessings will from bird gods from that world. Isn't that great? Everything is aspects of the universal design anyway, so just to be convenient and not to further stress your tiny mortal mind, here we go…"

The world grew dark again and a galaxy of tiny lights swirled around the little bird until she hovered above a planet that was as the voice said, full of magic and creatures she'd never seen. There were humans and there were things that looked half human, and things that seemed like animals, and ball shaped things that didn't seem like animals at all floating, bouncing, and bobbing about. She heard the laughter of birds behind her as she pondered.
