Turn Over

The week flew by and it was now the last weekend of January. I went to the Brent's Office to check the blue print of the project.The office was a four storey building with a basement as its carpark. I headed to the fourth floor at the Design's Department. A tall thin middle aged man greeted me like he was expecting me long time ago.

He showed me the design, the lay out, and all the details from inside out. It was so far so good.

After acquiring a photocopy of the design, I went to the Human Resource Department to check the list of workers assigned. There were 50 men on the list, the top name being the foreman named Engr. Lester Moran.

I was pondering where I have heard that name before. I just remember he was a reliable man. Only, he drinks too much recentlt, I heard. I knew I needed to meet him but I wonder if I got time.

I went back to the fourth floor to check on Dan. He just entered his office and was taking out his documents from his briefcase. I knocked as I entered. He was a bit surprised I appeared in his workplace. As long time friends, we usually don't bother each other at work. We only meet for jamming to catch up once in a while.

"What suddenly brings you here bro?" He placed the stock of documents on his table.

"Bro, I will be transferred to the Central City next week. I didn't expect it to be this soon. Atleast, I was thinking it will be next year or so." I said as I sat on one of the chairs opposite him.

"So, what's does my office have to do with that?" He said still pouring on his documents.

" Stop pretending to be busy! I need you to take a close monitoring on the development project in the North. Was it you who mentioned the foreman Engr. Lester Moran?" I asked.

"Yes, why?" he said looking at me this time.

"Is he married? How old is he?" I asked. My mind drifting back when I tried to visit my love before Christmas and ended up seeing her brother and her with other young men along the road. I also remember the man who was leaving the store when I just arrived. The store owner said he was the foreman of the construction being done near her house. If he was the guy, he seemed to be a kind, and hard working man.

"He is 31 years old and nope, as far as I know, he is not married. In fact, I should tell you this. It may or may not be true but the reason he is drinking hard these days is because he was broken hearted by a girl." Dan said.

"Ha! " I said not much reacting to Dan's gossip.

"You are not interested to know who that girl was? Should I or should I not tell you?" He grinned.

"Since when did you become a gossip?" I chuckled.

"You should atleast know. Although this should not affect you at all. Those workers who came here reported his recent excessive drinking. The reason was that his beautiful university girlfriend broke up with him last summer. The girl's name seems to be similar with the girl you met last summer." Dan tried to entertain himself as he played his words around while looking at how I would react.

I went dumb and speechless. My ears grew hot, my heart sunk as my fist grew cold. My mind was telling me it was a joke but the putting things together, Dan's words were not impossible at all.

After recovering from my shock, I softy spoke, "You knew this when you accompanied me up there? Why didn't you atleast tell me?"

"Off course, I didn't want you to think that I am discouraging you. After all, the men said the girl already broke up with him so I was supposing she is free. Didn't your girlfriend tell you about it? But that shouldn't be necessary for her to do right? Unless she is being too honest!" Dan said.

I nodded. Indeed, my love wrote about this. It hurt me before when I read it but now that I heard it again, I realized she had been honest with me. Only, who would have thought that the world will be so small for the two of us?

"That's bad. He will actually build my love's dream house not knowing that his rival initiated it. Sounds unfair for him." I said.

"Not unless you reveal yourself to him. Otherwise, I can suppervise this work for you. Your brother may be busy with other more important matters." Dan said.

"I originally planned to meet him to discuss details with him but no, just be sure they work well and not to substandardize the project." I said.

"Sure, they had been working projects before. I assure you his work is good. Much more, he is seeing her beautiful ex-girlfriend pass by atleast once a week. " Dan grinned at me.

"He will regret building this if he knew his boss is the reason for his heartbreak." I shrugged like nothing but imagining them see each other almost regularly made my heart worry again.

"Anyway, besides that, there's no much worry. You can concentrate on your work wherever you will be. Your brother is here to check things if they needed approval." Dan comforted.

"Thank you boss. I will count on you.I'll try to come atleast twice a month once I'll get settled in my new workplace." stood up to give him a fake salute.

"Boss my a*s! Remember to approve my bonus when this project is done!" He demanded.

"That depends upon my mood. I'll take my leave now. See you around." I said as I headed out.
