His Life Without Her (18)

I thought hard about it. There was really nothing significantly ceremonious about how Mrs. Law handed this jar to me aside from seeing how delighted I was when I tasted it and how I asked if her daughter knows how to make such wine.

If this jar was indeed a valuable heirloom, why would they give it to me this easy? Or is it just a common property for them?

"What do I need to explain. Mrs Law just handed it to me this morning. Last night, we drunk a whole jar of rice wine like that size. It tastes so great that I asked Mrs. Law if Fem knows how to make it but she wasn't sure. And by the way, she said that this one was supposedly prepared for Fem's graduation celebration but she didn't go home since her graduation so they didn't open it. That's how it ended to me. "

"Or, probably she wants her daughter to make me wine when we finally get married? It could also mean that way, right, Grammie? It's indirectly saying she's giving me her blessing to marry her daughter. I love my mother-in-law!" I said smiling widely.

" Ha! What did you say? You drunk a whole jar of rice wine last night? Did they throw a feast for you? " Grandpa was surprised again.

"Yup! we drunk a whole jar of rice wine last night. It's so damn good Grandpa! Dan got a bad hung over though. Why don't you open it and try?" I laughed seeing their faces as if they have been wronged.

"My goodness! That Greg sure knows how to flaunt! I want to have a drink with him soon!" Grandpa sat on the chair beside the dining table.

"You sure can make that happen almighty grandpa! He might open a bigger jar for you!" I laughed again.

We were all in the kitchen bantering about the jar when my brother arrived. He came towards the kitchen and placed his keys in the drawer of the divider.

"Oh, the South Major arrived. Why did I not know?" He twitched a smile and rolled his eye balls behind his glasses.

Wait! Is he wearing eyeglasses now? Seriously?

" Oh bro! Why did I not know that you became old all of a sudden? Don't tell me you have no girlfriend yet with those double vision?" I half joked.

"This is to shield my eyes from looking at other ladies other than the daughter of Mr. Law. Got it?" He said with his domineering CEO voice.

"Oh, right. I saw an elder sister of Fem. Her name is Grace but she has a baby daughter. I didn't see the husband though." I said in annoyance.

"How old? " JP asked to my surprise.

Me: "....."

"How old is she? and the baby?" He clarified.

"Why? Don't tell me you're interested again bro?" I chuckled.

"I'm only asking, what else do you think I meant?" My brother seems to be not in the mood now.

" Ah oh! Im not sure. She seems to be a little over 30 and her baby girl is maybe less than two." I said while observing my brother's demeanor as he browsed the letters on the divider.

"Hmmmm... there must be someone younger than her " He muttered then turned to living room after he got the letters addressed to him then headed upstairs.

"Lina,. we can start dinner in ten minutes.!" Grandma called Aunty Lina who was cooking in the closed kitchen.

"Okay ma'am!"' She shoured back.

"My brother seems to be in a serious mood now? Is he working so hard? And why did he ask me that wierd question? As if he is interested with what I said." I asked the air in front of the two elders without expecting anyone of them to answer.

Grandpa stared at the table blankly.

"Get the plates here now. Start dishing out. JP must be tired and hungry. He is working all day and even stay awake at night" Grandma rushed to bring out some plates and spoons.

"Okay, I'll cut some fruits Grammie! By the way, these fruits also are from Mrs. Law. These are all organic. They grow these by themselves. They have different kinds of fruit trees around their yard. But these must have come from their farm. Did you know Grandpa? They have a very wide pastureland besides that mountain which we're developing." I informed them trying to fish out any reaction from them.

Dinner was served. JP came down to join us after having changed his clothes. We ate and bantered over the food. JP insisted to ask if there was somebody younger than Grace or older than Fem. I wasn't able to give him an answer. I didn't know why he was so interested about that. Grandpa just shook his head helplessly.

"Why don't you investigate about this grandpa? Bro is so busy with work." I turned to grandpa.

"What's the point. As if you two will marry Law sisters! One is enough!" Grandpa said as he shoved food into his mouth.

"Hear that bro? Why don't you just see your secretary? Why do you need to complicate things." I said.

"I have my reasons. Don't think I'm an idiot!" JP said eyeing at grandpa meaningfully.

Grandpa seemed to have understood what my brother meant. He looked towards grandma then turned back to his food and continued eating.

There's something going on here. I thought.
