3 Summertime Blues (3)

After we closed the bar, lady Shane gave us some instructions for the rest of the work as she will be going home after we close, leaving us inside. I expected her to reprimand me from my encounter with those four young men, but to my delight. She didn't say anything about it.

After she left, Marie and I took turns to take a bath then got ready to sleep.

Lying down on our own beds, Marie popped up with a loud chuckle that I almost thought some phlegm came out from here mouth. "Haha! I never thought you can catch men that easy!" She said.

"Nahhh, you thought it was that easy? I was actually expecting you to atleast save me!" I said half truthfully. Actually, I quite enjoy those kinds of conversations with strangers. But the moment I get to understand and know them, I get more quiet.

"But you look so natural saying those words. I actually thought you are a veteran bar waitress! hahaha!!!" Marie continued to laugh aloud.

"Hey! Dont understimate my father's genes. Im his daughter, if I must remind you! " I said aloud kicking the upper bunk bed where she was lying.

"Haha, yh yh..you guys have a great father, so fearsome!" She agreed.

"Lets sleep now, this bed isn't really bad, I cannot sprawl my tired legs. " I was saying to myself.

"What are you going to do with those handsome men?" Marie asked again.

"Why? do you have plans for them?" I asked back.

"They look so cool and hot!" She said with a giggle in her voice.

"Hot my ass! You can flirt with them all you like. But remember lady Shane's rules baby! " I said. "Besides, you are only here for a summer job..not to catch a boyfriend to impregnate you ! " I warned her...also reminding myself at the same time.

"Okay, but how about if they woo you? Would you go out with anyone of them?" Marie seems to be thinking in advance.

"Hmmm...I'll have to think about that when that time comes." I said then bid her goodnight.

It was Saturday morning already, my 6th day being a waitress...I was finding myself a bit bored of all staying inside. I reminded myself that tomorrow will be my day off so I have to muster my strength for today. It was eight o'clock and I needed to buy some bread for breakfast. I went out to the bakeshop just some few shops away from the bar where I was. The streets were fairly clear as there was no much vehicles parked around yet. I saw some group of young people clutching their books while rushing towards a long stairway leading up to a gate. I thought that must be the most prestigious school in this city which lady Shane was mentioning yesterday. I wondered how much would a semester cost in that school.

Looking up the stairs, I didn't notice someone pass by beside me. Only when that person was infront of me did I notice his back. 'That looks like Dan! That annoying man last Monday!' I whispered staring at him while he proceeded to jug up his way skipping every after two stairs. He seems to be too in a hurry. He was in a somewhat faded blue jeans with white collared tshirt on. His back pack hanging from his right shoulder. 'So he goes to that school? He must be on a summer class' withdrawing my gaze from that gate where he just entered. I snapped back and went back inside for breakfast before starting to wait for different moods of people coming in. This time I'm becoming more familiar with the routine and the attitudes of costumers. They maybe varied moods and demands but they all have one common denominator... to drink, or get drunk. It was up to me to discern what approach I should use to each one of them. Lady Shane was quite satisfied with our performance this first week that she allowed me to stay out for the Saturday night until Monday morning. Although Marie stayed because we cannot go out same time.

I packed up my laundry and headed to my uncle's Benjie's house. The ride only took less than 30 mins since the road was clear this time of the night. During busy hours, this 6kilometer distance seems to take forever on the road.

I reached uncle's home and found them watching TV. Said hi to uncle and aunty then proceeded to the bathroom for a long bath. I'm really not sure how I am smelling this time after a week in bar. I didn't dare taste those drinks by the way not because I am not allowed but because it was against my conscience.... atleast for this time.

I finished bathing and found out that no one was in the living room already. They all went upstairs to their rooms. I dried my hair while watching TV then went to join my sister to sleep.

'Oh my, she's snoring! how can you be snoring ay this age!' I mumbled. It took me about 30 mins to adjust before I finally used to the sound and fell asleep.
