1 I don't' love you

The sun shines through the window of the living room as she happily walks down the stairs. She was extremely happy after yet another steamy night with her husband.

Her face bloomed with happiness and her eyes sparkled like the stars in the night sky... After breakfast, she went shopping and returned home. She made his lunch and sent it to her husband.

Time passed on. She gazed upon the clock time shown, was 9 PM. Her husband has been doing that a lot recently, but she just thought it was because of work. Knowing how aloof her husband is, she doesn't expect much from him.

He was always as cold as one can be to his woman. Thereon she decided today was the day she stood up and made it clear to him. Time skipped and she woke up from the sound of the door closing.

Her gaze met the table only to realize even her plate was untouched. She glances at the hallway but once again he was under the influence of liquor. She knew better than anything inside the house what would take place between them. He stopped and turned to the kitchen and saw her seated there. He walked over and drank from her glass filled with red wine.

After he placed the glass on the table, he kissed her on the forehead. He began to proceed to undress her. She didn't seem to mind but suddenly, she boxed his hands away from her and pointed to the stairs.

“Please stop!” Her voice trails off... She swallowed in hopes that he would talk to her. But he just left her there.

"You should have appreciated all of it." He said after being halfway up the stairs. She knows how much he hates her but his thoughtlessness and coldness end with her there and then.

“I want a divorce!” She yelled and he stopped at the top of the staircase waiting for...

Waiting for her to walk out from the kitchen and come to face him. He was there for quite some time. He turned to walk away but he stopped and turned back around, and she was there looking right at him.

“Why? Didn't you say I should have appreciated all of it? How about I left it for someone else to appreciate? I… want… a divorce.” She asked while she stood there looking at him looking down at her, a smirk appeared on his face when she smirked at him. He glanced at her surprisingly. She claimed in question then said to him.

"I think you're just throwing a tantrum. I will see you in the morning." He said to her and left her standing there. Instead of raging with anger she giggled and went up the stairs, straight to her room.

“In the beginning of this relationship and marriage, I was sure you would never love me. Yet I smiled and laughed for you, I believe you and stood by you, I lose myself while falling in love with you. Never have you tried to touch me, speak to me, or even love me unless you were under the influence of alcohol. Just this time, I'm going to love me, more than I loved you, and to find myself I first need to leave you.”

She went to her room and sat down beside the bed looking at their wedding picture. The smile on both their faces was perfect. No one could see the lies they laid behind them.

She began to speak of how things are between them and the things she did even though she knew he didn't love her, she decided to find herself and to do so. She must leave him, while on the other side of the door stood her aloof husband who has never been responsive no matter how hard she tried with him.

He leaves after hearing her cry. She had nothing but loneliness around her and the distant husband was of no help and soon it became a habit, and she accepted his ruthlessness and never complained. However, now she wishes for more than unresponsiveness, and cold reaction to her and her needs for love. After hours of shedding her tears, she finally lay in bed.

In the morning she woke up late from her slumber due to her puffy eyes and swollen face, so she decided to stay in her room.... Moments went by and soon she packed up everything that belongs to her. She went out and got the paperwork for the divorce, it didn't take long to process as she had more than enough reason to file for a divorce. She returned home and made something only for herself!

“Why do I usually make dinner for a man who never eats it. Ms. Claire, there's no need for you to make breakfast for me in the morning, as of today I will make whatever I want for myself.” She said to herself then addressed the cook lady and told her that she will no longer need her attendance towards meals she will now do it herself.

“Are you going somewhere?” She asked.

“Well, yes. Ms. Claire, you will only make for your master for he never eats.” She responded to her with a smile.

The door opened and slammed shut, startling about them. He enters the kitchen and Claire leaves immediately.

"Is this what you want?" He asked her to place the paperwork on the counter.

“Oh, my goodness, he speaks. Oh, wait he always does, just not to me. If I can appreciate you for being who you are, appreciate me for doing something good for once.” She acted shocked to provoke but suddenly she didn't want to entertain him in any way. He looked at her and for the first time she felt like he could see her for her.

"Why?" He asked her.

“Why, what?” She asked him.

"Why do you want to divorce? You should be ha-"

“I don't love you. That is why.” She said, staring him dead in the eyes, she turned cold. It was as if she was the only warmness but now, it’s cold.

"How long?" He finally questioned her, after a moment of silence.

“How long... Hmm, how long have I not loved you? The day we got married. You didn't want me; you didn't spare a minute to let everyone know. Even after your coldness only showed me how much I needed to leave yet I stayed when I shouldn't have and that was my mistake. I should have left a long time ago.” She said taking a moment before she asked and responded to her question and said to him. Which surprised him because on that day she seemed as if she was the happiest.

Even so, what came next wasn't surprising because he already saw it coming, therefore he just listened to her. He could hear her regrets, her regrets of loving him, staying by his side, being unloved, feeling like she wasn't enough for him.

To think they would have grown closer instead of apart and become the family that was expecting of them. She went upstairs leaving him there, he stood allowing everything to sink in. He placed the paperwork on the table as he was about to leave.

“I don't love you. That is why.” The words that were shaped out and it stabbed him like a knife. It couldn’t be unheard and now it was something he had to bear alone on his own.
