18 CHAPTER 17: WHAT YOU NEED TO FACE THE DEVIL

What is she doing here? Right when I arrived on the battlefield, the first thing I noticed was Sarah sitting on the ground among the monsters controlled by the demons. Why would she launch herself into the arms of death like this even though she has never seen blood before?

"That's why I said you are stupid."

It's a good thing that I have already amplified all the soldiers who were coming with me while we were on the way. We were able to make it faster than expected.

I pass by a group of people wearing golden armor like her. Is this what they give to the heroes? Well, it looks sturdy enough so I guess it is okay.

"You guys go to the side as support as well."

"Yes, sir!" Don't call me sir.

I jump from my horse and cut through the monster trying to kill her. With that, we can say that we are even right?

***

"No way."

"What were you trying to accomplish here?" I mean, I know you aren't the brightest girl there is but still, stupidity has its own limit.

"I…"

"Watch out!!" Emilia screams at me while launching her sword. What kind of big sword is that, it is as wide as a human's head.

I dodge the sword and I hear it cutting something behind me. Something seems to be coming as well so I regain my posture and it passes right by me.

"Gnugh?"

A goblin, well I think it is one if I follow the description they make in their books, looks at le while his sword lands right before Sarah.

"Hii!"

She shudders in fear and before the monster gets to raise his head again, I stab him through the back of his head. Blood then spurts out as I remove my sword and its lifeless body falls before her. Her legs are shaking like twigs. Seriously, what was she hoping to do here?

"Hey!! Emilia, come and help your pupil here!"

I grab her sword without looking at what she just killed and launch it at her. Emilia jumps in the air and grabs it then lands behind me, killing another monster again. You don't need to show off, you know.

"You leave with her! I will stall some time for y-" Another goblin jumps on her and I smack his head with the chain before she can turn around.

"As I said, you take care of your pupil. It is your duty."

"Gnaaahh!!" A cyclops then comes. I am surprised he went through the barrage of arrows that they are firing but seeing as he has arrows on his chest and shoulders, I guess he simply went out of rage perhaps.

"Fall back!! Cyclop incoming!" Emilia warns her men butt then I run before her, I want to see if what he said about those is true. Especially the part about their right arm always being weaker. "What are you doing?!!"

She tries to grab me but I dodge her and launch my chain at the cyclop's right hand. This thing is as big as a house so I am having some doubts it will be that easy to put down. Oh well, there is only one way to know, right?

The hook of the chain takes its finger and the cyclop raises its hand, pulling me at great speed.

"Gnaaahh!!" Yeah, I know, I know. You won't like this. But trust me, I will make it quick.

While I am pulled, a sword once again flies past me and hits the cyclop's elbow, cutting its arm almost entirely.

"Gnaahhh!"

"Come on, now!!" Emilia, what was that for?

I arrive at the level of the cyclop's chest and use it as a stepping stone to jump and retake Emilia's sword. I launch it back at her as soon as I grab it.

"I don't need your help!!" Let me do my thing.

I land before the cyclop and an ogre now comes. See? Because of you, I have lost my momentum. Although it is smaller than a cyclop, an ogre is supposedly more resilient. Especially when it is controlled by demons because it loses its reason.

"Haoo!!"

"Fufufu…" Even harpies have come now. Their sinister laughter irritates me even though it is the first time I hear it.

"I guess this will be a good training."

"Haao!!" I dodge the ogre's strike and imprint my name on its arm. Just like Emilia, I aim for the elbow and slice it off cleanly. Its black blood flows out as it screams from the pain and I pierce through its mouth.

It starts turning to smoke while I see the cyclop trying to step on me. This guy has the same foot size as an elephant, dammit!

I barely evade it then launch my chain on its elbow. But as it hooks, two harpies come flying to me.

"Kyaa!!" Their screams are really irritating.

"So stupid."

While I jump up, they each receive fire arrows that set them ablaze. I will worry about their screams later, for now, you are the star. The cyclop tries to smack me with its cut-off arm but it is too slow.

"Amplify." I amplify my leg a bit more then jump once again. I instantly reach his face then stab its eye. Blood spurts on me like a fountain as I do and the monster screams while falling forward. I retrieve my sword and my chain then jump before it falls and lands on its head. When I look up, it's like the whole battlefield has stopped.

The cyclop starts turning to smoke and the soldier present, the monsters…Everyone is looking at me. Did I do something?

"Incredible." I hear a knight saying incredible but what is really incredible is that the monsters have stopped to look at me as well.

A window then pops up before my eyes again but I really don't have time for that now.

"Gryaa!!"

"Gnaaahhh!!!"

"Haoo!!"

The monsters start screaming and the air becomes eerie. It is as if something bad is about to happen, or like those days when rain is about to fall. I am sure things will become serious now.

***

Quite some time has passed since I have joined the battlefield. I can't say I am really tired since he was making me fight for hours without end, surely knowing that this was the kind of thing I would face. But I have to admit that it is getting irritating.

"Just fucking die, goddammit."

No matter how many I kill, the others just come right after. It is like they just respawn somewhere. The forest from which they are coming from cannot even be seen anymore. They have leveled up the place with the cyclops.

"Haaoo!!" And those fucking ogres are as relentless as ever. Their hollow like black skin turns red whenever they come near me and they instantly go into rage mode as if it was prescribed by a pharmacist. Do they not understand it is not a matter of strength.

I dodge a gargoyle's diving. Its claws are as long as a knife. It must hurt to be touched by that. I strike its throat as it turns to stab me with its tail. Every single thing, every single hour of training he had me go through is helping right now. Did you really know I was going to be here? Maybe you are even watching from somewhere right now? You were never one to speak a lot but you were always observing, right?

"Will! We need to retreat! Another team will come to take place!" Emilia lands near me, right on the smoke of the gargoyle that is fading.

"Are you tired already?"

"It's not a matter of being tired. We need to preserve our strength as much as possible."

While she speaks, I see an ogre she just sliced off coming back to life. Just like they were saying, when they are cut off, they turn into gold and then gradually come back. This guy had his head sliced off but the golden parts are gradually stitching back.

"This won't go anywhere. I need to stay here and slay the maximum of them." I want to enjoy myself a bit more.

"What are you talking about?! You think you can handle all these monsters by yourself?!"

Without asking me anything else, Emilia grabs me and starts running back to the rear of the troops. The ogre that was regenerating finishes its process and immediately engages us, stomping its way through the knights.

"Valkyrie! Watch out!"

Emilia manages to dodge it and since her grip on me weakens, I launch my chain at the monster and it hooks on its mouth.

"Gaoo!" Don't worry, I will finish you off so you won't need to go and see a dentist.

I pull and release myself from Emilia and she tries to grab me again.

"Hey!! Come back here!"

I fall directly on the ogre who raises its arm to grab me. I am not a ball, though. I slice its finger off and stomp on its head before killing it by stabbing it through. When I place my feet on the ground again, I am yanked backward, and then she restarts running around me.

"What is your problem, seriously?!"

With her, the knights that were fighting until now fall back and the uncountable arrows cover them. We pass through three lines of soldiers that are heading for the place we were fighting and I see the guys I came with advancing as well. I wonder how long do the effects of Amplify last. I haven't tried to monitor it until now. I should surely check it if I don't want to find myself later.
