9 Lord Haundrake

Lord Haundrake was a mere kid of around 15. He had grayish skin, long strands of gnarly pink hair, bright orange eyes, a large black top hat and he wore a grey-and-black suit that clashed horribly with his skin.

"I am Lord Haundrake. And who might you be?"

"We are-." Ausu started, but Lord Haundrake cut him off as if he hadn't spoken at all.

"Your wealthy family, looking for my guidance, are you not?" He said all this in a calm cool voice that made me shiver in distrust.

"No, we're TOURISTS." Ausu corrected patiently.

Lord Haundrake looked worried for a moment, but that worry was only seen in his eyes, and it quickly disappeared. "Well in that case I would like to ask you to leave." He announced, crossing the fingers of his left hand and looking at us intimidatingly until all I wanted was to get out of his range of vision.

"No! We won't leave yet! We still have business to attend to!" Ausu argued.

"Oh?" Lord Haundrake turned his head towards Ausu, and spoke in his calm quote voice. "And what sort of business is that?"

"Uh… learning the Haundrake family history for a history project at… school!" Ausu stammered for a good excuse. A good lie.

"Well in that case... I don't see why not," Lord Haundrake folded his hands. "You can stay."

"Really?" I blurted out in surprise. And Ausu thought this would be hard! I thought. But I still don't trust Lord Haundrake. I'd better be wary of him.

"Yes." Lord Haundrake replied calmly. "So, Ausu, you're still in school huh?" He asked, standing up and coming up to Ausu abruptly.

"Uh… yeah." Ausu confirmed awkwardly, as he shuffled his feet.

"So who are your FRIENDS?" Lord Haundrake asked intimidatingly, staring at him with piercing orange eyes.

Why does everything about this guy have to be intimidating? I asked myself. And what's up with his eyes? I felt like he could hear my thoughts as he looked at me out of the corner of his eye.

"This is Nicole, Unah, and Merribelle." Ausu unannounced, gesturing towards each of us.

"I see… hey! Aren't you from the Kisumi family?"

"Uhhh…" I was taken aback, taking a few steps backwards in the confusion. In that moment I knew he was the werewolf that killed my mother. And without thinking I blurted out:"YOU KILLED MY MOTHER!"

And I lunged at him, pushing him to the ground. "YOU KILLED HER!" I yelled savagely in his face; I must look like a wreck, but I don't care.

I don't care about anything right now, just so that I can kill Lord Haundrake, and see him struggle for life, like my mother had. Make him feel the pain he made her feel. That would give me so much pleasure. To make him know what it feels like to lose a life…

"MERRIBELLE!" Ausu yelled. "STOP!"

That was all I needed to make me force myself away from ruining our plan further.

Lord Haundrake got up, with not even a scratch on him, and I marveled at this.

Then, as he went past me he whispered so only I could hear: "I didn't kill her." Then he was off down the hallway.
