Chapter 12: All For Power

I headed to Scott's house first thing in the morning. Stiles had told me to meet him there before we headed down to Mexico to get Scott and Kira.

"Oh! Liam, go home. You're not coming with us," I heard Stiles say as I walked into the house. "Why not?" Liam whined. "Because it's a full moon. And I don't feel like driving all the way down to Mexico, just to have you rip my throat out," Stiles answered. He had a point. "You can lock me up, right? Chain me down in the back seat or something?" Liam questioned. "You tore through the last chains, remember?" Malia reminded him. "Yeah, we would have to freeze you in carbonite to get you down there," Sties said sarcastically. "Okay, then where do we get the carbonite?" Liam asked, not getting the reference at all. "Seriously, you haven't seen it either?" Stiles asked with a sigh. "He's uncultured. Try not to hold it against him," I smirked, and Stiles just shook his head, and began to walk away.

"Wait!" Liam called after him. "What if we put me in the trunk," Liam suggested. "Liam, you've been a werewolf all of five minutes. You don't have to do this," Stiles told him in a softer voice. "I know I don't, but I want to. There's got to be a bigger trunk or something. There has to be," Liam insisted. "Maybe there is," I muttered, and everyone looked at me. "What are you thinking?" Stiles asked looking over at me. "Just load up the Jeep, I've got to make a call," I replied as I pulled out my phone.

Once they were outside, I pressed the call button and put the phone to my ear. "Hello?" a familiar voice said on the other end. "Hay, Braeden, it's Amaya. Listen I was wondering if you could get an armored transport van. For Mexico," I asked. "Do I want to know why you need an armored transport van, Amaya?" Braeden muttered after a moment of silence. "No. Not really," I answered and heard another sigh from the other end of the phone. "Okay, I'll see what I can do," she said and then hung up.

A few minutes later I got a text message, telling me that Braeden would meet us at the warehouse where we were meeting Derek. "Come on!" I heard Stiles yell from the Jeep, as I stood out on the porch, sighed, and made my way over hopping in the back, and then Malia hopped in shutting the door before we drove off.

A while later we arrived at an old warehouse. We waited for a few minutes until a back van pulled up, we all bailed out of the Jeep, and I saw Braeden hop out of the van. "How did you get a prison transport van?" Stiles asked as we walked over to her. "I'm a U.S. Marshal," Braeden replied with a smirk. "Yeah, I just thought that was just a cover," Stiles replied. "It's not," I mumbled just loud enough for him to hear me.

Derek drove into the warehouse as we stood there, but I noticed there was someone else with him. Peter. "Are we really bringing him?" Derek asked as he stepped out of his car and motioned to Liam. "Are we really bringing him?" Stiles responded pointing to Peter. "We're bringing everyone that we can. And considering Scott and Kira were taken the night before a full moon, we should probably get going," Peter snapped. "A werewolf can't steal a true Alpha's power. But maybe a Nagual jaguar, with the power of Tezcatlipoca behind her. Maybe she can," he continued. "So, if everyone is sufficiently freaked out, I say we get going," Peter added. "We can't. Not without Lydia," Stiles piped up. "And where is she?" Peter asked coldly. "At the school," Stiles replied.

"What's she doing at the school anyway?" Derek asked after we had been waiting for a while. "We got Kira's sword, but we need something with a stronger scent. Lydia went to get a jacket from her locker," Malia answered. "If she has a car, she can catch up," Braeden said. "No. What if something happened. What if she's in trouble?" Stiles said. "Fine. You stay, and you find her. We're gonna go on without you," Peter told him. "I could go," I suggested. "No. You're one of the only ones here that can beat a Berserker. You're coming with us," Derek said. "I could call Mason," Liam piped up. "He's at a study group at school. Maybe he could look for her," he added.

Stiles let out a sigh, "All right, fine," he sighed. We all piled into the cars. Braeden drove the transport van, and I sat in the front seat next to Braeden while Stiles and Derek sat in the back with Liam. Peter and Malia drove Derek's car.

I listened as Derek talked to Liam, "Okay. I brought something to help you," he said pulling out a wooden talisman. "This has been in my family for centuries. It's a very powerful, supernatural talisman. We use it to teach Betas how to control themselves, on a full moon," Derek explained. I looked over at Braeden and rolled my eyes, I knew that was a total lie. There was nothing supernatural about that chunk of wood Derek was holding. All it was, was a psychological training tool.

I looked back and saw Derek eying at Stiles, with a "say something" look on his face. "Yes, it's powerful. Very powerful," Stiles said clearing his throat. I turned back to Braeden, "Very convincing," I mouthed, and she shook her head with a chuckle.

The drive was quiet, but I couldn't help but worry as the sky grew darker and the moon began to creep over the horizon. "You worried?" Braeden asked pulling me out of my thoughts. I stayed quiet for a moment, "I'm just thinking. The last time a psycho hunter kidnapped one of my friends. It didn't go well," I muttered. "This isn't Dorian, Amaya. It won't be like that," Braeden replied. "Then why does this all feel like an elaborate trap?" I asked. "What do you mean?" Braeden questioned. "Something about the way Peter said, a werewolf can't take a true Alpha's power but maybe a Nagual jaguar can," I said quieter. "It made me feel like it was more his idea than Kate's," I whispered. "I don't know for sure, but I get the feeling he plays a part in all of this," I added, and Braeden nodded. "Then we keep an eye on him. And watch each other's backs," she smiled. "Like old times," she added. "Yeah, except during old times. You were on an obsessive quest, and I was still figuring out my powers," I smirked. But my smirk disappeared as a loud growl echoed from the back of the van.

"Whatever you're going to teach me, you better start!" I heard Liam yell. Derek and Stiles tried to calm him down, but it wasn't working. The van rocked back and forth as Liam pulled on the handcuffs that were holding him. I heard the sound of metal breaking, and I looked back to see that Liam was free, another roar echoed through the van as he lunged at Derek. "Derek!" Braeden called out in worry. "Keep going!" Derek yelled back. "We're almost there!" I yelled as Braeden sped up. Finally, the growls began to soften, and I looked back and saw Liam shifting back to normal. "Derek?" Braeden questioned. "We're okay," Derek replied, reassuring her. I let out a breath I hadn't realized I had been holding before I turned back to look out the window.

A large rundown church came into view. "Is that it?" I asked. "Yup," Braeden replied as she parked the van. I looked back at the boys and saw Derek open the door to jump out. all of a sudden, a familiar sound rang through my ears. I heard Derek let out a gasp, and I saw one of the Berserkers come out of the shadows and yank him out of the van.

Braeden and I both leaped out of the van, the sound of gunshots filled the air as Braeden fired at the Berserker that was now standing over Derek, impaling it with one of its claws. My hands began to glow, and I flung the Berserker into a wall. Braeden rushed over to Derek once the Berserker was gone. He didn't look good; blood was oozing from his stomach. "How bad is he?" Peter asked. "I'm fine. I'm fine. Just get Scott," Derek said between huffs. But nobody moved, "Just find him. we'll be right behind you. Go," Derek told them. "Go!" he yelled and finally Peter ran towards the church everyone slowly following behind him.

We ran through the church and down into the temple below it. "Okay. Stop. Stop, stop. Everyone stop," Peter yelled. "We've got to figure out where we are, then we gotta figure out how to find Scott and Kira," he instructed. "Okay I'm not the biggest fan of Peter giving the orders," I said stepping next to Stiles. "Oh, I'm sorry, did you just want to keep running through the halls until we get jumped by a Berserker," Peter hissed. "I didn't say you were wrong. I just said I didn't like it. Gees has your ego always been this fragile," I replied with a smirk and Peter let out a low growl. "I wouldn't do that," I said quietly my eyes beginning to glow.

The sound of a phone ringing snapped us out of our staring contest. "What. How do I even have service?" Stiles questioned as he looked at the phone before answering it. "Hi Dad," he said before walking off a little way. Peter just turned and looked at us confused, and I just shrugged.

I listened while Stiles talked to his dad, and after a few moments, he hung up and walked back over to us. "What do we do now?" Liam asked. "Duck!" Malia yelled as she grabbed Liam and a Berserker leaped out at us. We quickly ran away, heading back down the hall the way we came eventually ending up in a large room. "Go, find Kira and Scott!" Malia yelled at Stiles and me and threw Kira's sword at Stiles. "You sure," I asked. "Yeah. I got this," Malia smiled, and I nodded as I ran off down the hall with Stiles.

"Do you think you can find them, with your eyes?" Stiles asked me as we ran, I nodded and focused my power, my eyes began to glow, and I saw a faint amber glow. "Got it!" I yelled as I followed the glow, Stiles right behind me. We reached a cavern and my eyes landed on Kira, she looked awful, her clothes were bloody and torn. "Kira," I said softly. "Are you okay?" Stiles asked her as he ran up beside me.

As soon as she saw that it was us, Kira rushed over to us, "It's Scott. Stiles, it's Scott," she told him. "What?" Stiles asked confused." "The Berserker, it's him. Kate did it," she said frantically. "What are you talking about?" Stiles asked. "Oh my God," I muttered as it all started to make sense to me. "She made him into one of them. I don't know how, but it's him. and if they don't know, they could kill him," she explained. "That's why Lydia is not here. They won't know their killing, Scott," Stiles said.

"This was the plan. This was it all along," I muttered. "Think about it. Kate just wants Scott dead and the rest of you to suffer. But this is about power too. There's no way Kate did this on her own. She had help," I explained, "Who?" Kira asked. "Peter," Stiles and I said at the same time. We all stood still for a moment before we began to run back to the others. As soon as we reached the others, I saw that Liam and Peter had Scott pinned up against a wall and Malia was about to drive one of the giant claws through his head.

"Malia, wait!" Stiles yelled, but she didn't stop. Kira ran up and sliced the claw in half, causing Malia to stubble backward, "It's Scott. It's Scott," Stiles told her, and the others. The room fell silent for a moment but then Scott broke free, knocking Liam and Peter off of him. "Scott, don't," Kira cried, and Stiles tried to reason with him only to get knocked to the ground. Scott went straight for Liam, grabbed him by the neck, and held him against a pillar.

"Scott! Scott! Listen!" Liam yelled as Scott reared back, getting ready to stab him with his claws. My hands began to glow, there was no way I was going to let him hurt anyone. Scott's body began to glow as I held him back, keeping him from moving. Liam looked over at me, realizing what I was doing. I was giving him time to reason with him.

"You're not a monster," Liam said turning back to look at Scott. "You're a werewolf. Like me," Liam told him. All of a sudden, I felt Scott stop resisting, and I slowly let my powers fade allowing him to move on his own. He let go of Liam and stepped back removing each piece of Berserker's armor, and lastly, he removed the skull that was covering his face, letting out a loud howl as he did.

I move toward Liam and helped him up as Scott looked at all of us. "You," he said looking straight past us, I followed his gaze and realized he was looking at Peter. "The only one who knew as much as the Argents about Berserkers. About the Nagual. You taught Kate. You helped her. All for power," Scott hissed.

"For my family's power. To be rightfully inherited by me. Not usurped by some idiot teenage boy, so incorruptible, he wouldn't shed the blood of his enemies even when justified. You don't deserve your power. Not power like this," Peter bellowed as he shifted. "Called it," I whispered to Stiles, who shot me a "really, right now," look.

Peter let out a roar and Malia launched herself toward him only to be thrown back. Kira raised her sword, and my hands began to glow as I stepped next to her. "Kira! Amaya!" Scott yelled at us, and we both looked at him for a moment before stepping back. I watched as he stepped closer to Peter. "You were my Beta first, Scott. It was my bite that changed your life. And my bite that can end it," Peter told him. "Then end it, Peter. Because you won't get another chance," Scott replied.

The two werewolves began to fight. It would have been quite entertaining to watch if I hadn't been terrified. Besides the fact that one of my friends was getting beaten up. Scott fell to the ground, and I could see a sense of defeat flash across his face for a second. He was slipping, and because of that, he was losing strength. "Scott," I whispered so softly only he could hear me. "Look at them. Look at your pack. You're fighting for them," I whispered, Scotts eyes glowed brighter somehow as he looked over at me, before launching himself off the ground. Peter tried to hit him, but Scott dogged every punch. "You were never an Alpha Peter. But you were always a monster," Scott's words rang through the air as he landed his final blow knocking Peter out. I used my eyes to look at Peter's aura, he wasn't dead, Scott did it.

I stepped towards Scott, and he looked over at me his eyes still glowing red. "Thank you," he whispered, and I smiled. After a moment Kira ran over to him and engulfed him in a hug. After we had all hugged and cried, we slowly made our way outside.

Sunlight was creeping across the horizon as we stepped out of the church. I scanned the crowd for Braeden and walked over to her as soon as I saw her. "Amaya!" she smiled and engulfed me in a hug. "I'm glad you're alive," she muttered. "Glad you're alive too," I smiled as we pulled apart. "Oh, Derek. Is he okay?" I questioned and then Derek appeared beside her, pulling a shirt over his head. I looked at him for a moment and then flashed my eyes to look at his Aura, he flashed his blue eyes back at me. "Huh, I guess I was right about this part too," I mused, and Derek just laughed. "Yeah, I guess you were," Derek smiled.

After a while, we were all packed up and ready to go home. Peter had been dosed with yellow wolfbane and chained up in the transport van. Now we just needed to say our goodbyes.

"There's enough yellow wolfsbane to keep Peter out for the trip back. But be careful," Chris told Scott, as Liam, Stiles, Malia, and I stood back and listened. "You're really going with them?" Scott asked sadly. "I made a deal with the Calaveras weeks ago. They'll leave you alone. All of you. But only if I help them catch Kate," Chris explained. "What if you can't?" Kira asked. "I'll find her. Someone has to," Chris said before he walked away.

We all just stood there watching him leave. I might not have known him that well, but I was sad to see him go. Especially like this. My eyes wandered over to look at Braeden, and I waved at her, as she walked with Derek to his car.

BRAEDEN POV

"So, you're not really a U.S. Marshal, are you?" Derek asked as he opened the door for me. "I was. But I spent too long looking for one person. It's hard to keep a job when part of it becomes an obsession. At least that's what someone told me," I replied. "Who?" Derek asked me. "Amaya's father," I replied looking over at the brown-haired girl that was walking to the van with her friends. "When I first started chasing my ghost, he taught me about the supernatural world," I replied. "Who were you after?" Derek questioned. "All I know is a code name. the Desert Wolf," I replied before I hopped in the car.

AMAYA POV

I sat down in the front seat next to Liam. Kira, Scott, Malia, and Stiles, road in the back, while Jordan drove. As we drove, I rested my head against the window and closed my eyes. It didn't take long for me to fall asleep. And it was a good sleep, there was nothing to worry about, everything was over. Everyone was safe. At least for now.
