1 Prologue

We thought war and destruction was a concept that we alone had created and mastered… but boy were we wrong.

Through our cunning wits, powerful adaptational skills, and lack of mercy towards the other life forms of our planet, we savagely slashed and hacked our way to the top of the food chain. If any part of another species' body was found to have value, it was not uncommon for members of our kin to hunt the other until they no longer existed. Eventually, even the planet's most mighty beasts that had been baptised in the blood of their victims would avoid even the weakest of our kind. And once nothing dared trifle with us, we turned on each other. We became our own hunters. For centuries we fought between one another; making weapons of mass destruction that generations before would have never dreamed possible. Our home planet became charred and scarred from our greed and anger towards one another. Although there were moments of peace and times where we would try to become better then the ones before us. Normally the strive towards worldly tranquility would end in the fires of war, but nonetheless we would try. Resulting in a vicious never ending repetitive cycle. It was in one of our moments of peace when they chose to attack. In the beginning we stood as fragile lambs waiting for their outstretched sharpened claws to end us. It had been in the longest spell of peace and prosperity in history. Our soldiers weren't hardened and our people were soft and happy. Our guard was down, for we had been the closest ever to breaking the accursed cycle of war. It is now known they had been watching us for eons in the shadows lurking, waiting, and preparing for a perfect opportunity such as this to arise. And when it arose they showed us what it was like to be the hunted again. However, what they were not able to predict was the lengths we'd go to in order to survive.

This is soldier #652 and I've been tasked to transcribe the fall and hopefully rise of the human race.
