Michael turned to Cody. "Did you know a Number kid ended up with them?"

"Nope. I didn't know what happened to any of them until today other than the fact that Claire said they had all been adopted by nice families and were doing well. He certainly seemed happy. I hardly recognized him," he said with a shrug.

Ethan had been all bundled up, including a beanie covering his hair. That was probably the only reason he had been recognizable at all because they were used to seeing him with a buzzcut. It looked like the outside was treating him well too. Or perhaps it was Claire that was treating him well though it might be a mixture of both.

Michael peeked under the plastic wrap and ended up grabbing himself a mint brownie. It was delicious but he thought Sarah's were a tiny bit better. She had made some over the summer that included marshmallows and chocolate frosting with a recipe she found online and they were some of the best things he ever ate.
