1 Warhammer 40k: Metamorphosis ch1

The first thing that I saw when I woke up was the face of a pale man with black hair, when I tried to say something I couldn't and I saw the same face move, the realization came to me, that was my face. Suddenly an influx of memories of a past life was known to me, I was in my forties when I died, I didn't have children or a partner, both my parents died of old age and the last 20 years of my life were passed while working as a teacher in a university and studying in the evening to get more degrees, by the time of my death I was doing the final thesis for my fourth degree.

At that moment the sound of a hydraulic piston came from the front of the capsule that I was in, squinting a bit I could see a futuristic metallic door opening, and coming from it a person with a red robe, a sudden chill went past my spine, I knew what was that and the implications weren't beautiful, I was in the Warhammer universe and from the little I knew from it, I was as good as dead. Suddenly everything went dark.

The next time I woke up I was no longer at the capsule and was sitting on a chair, and in front of me was a floating skull, after looking to the side I could see a few more people that were also seated in a chair, after a few minutes the skull started to recite a very fast sire of binary numbers, and to my surprise, I could understand it all. Basically, it was our schedule and where we are at the moment, the first was work, eating and "free time", and to my dismay, we currently were in the warp traveling.

We work 9 hours a day and have 3 meals, 6 hours of sleep and the time left is for free time in other words time for pursuing the Quest for Knowledge, which the Servo-Skull also explained and to no one surprise also started to indoctrinate us. At this time I also noticed another thing, I remember everything until now perfectly, not just what the Servo-Skull told us, what I mean is EVERYTHING from the minuscule movement of one of my companions to the time each of them exhaled or inhaled, we were currently traveling in the warp so whenever I can I should do some test in myself to see what's different.

The next day I came to know what was my work, turns out it's basically being an animal caretaker, I suppose that I work for a Genator or Magos Biologis, my work at least while on the ship is to make sure that the minimum amount of animals dies and that they are feed, after filling out a report of what is going on with them I can just do whatever I want.

Some time has passed and I have been exploring the ship looking for something similar to a microscope with enough potency to look at DNA, other than that I have been devouring books and data, my perfect memory doest mean that I understand everything by just reading it once, but since I can just remember the information whenever I want I used the hours that I usually work to internalize and comprehend the information, after some time I confirmed a suspicion I had, there are not a single book or any kind of data on the logical process or experimentation on how they discovered the things documented, is just like a guide, if X thing happens you do Y, and nowhere explains why is that, so probably I will have to do some reverse engineering in secret so that things make sense, I am lucky that I have all the bases covered with my degrees, after all, I loved and love genetics, the simple concept that we are defined by a strand of little small things called nucleotides seems amazing to me, so I got really invested and started to study it non stop, in the end I got a degree in Biochemestry, Genetics, Genetic engineering and Molecular Biologi, by no means I am genius, maybe I was a little above averge in IQ but the main driving factor was simply that I liked it, and when you like something it's really easy to do it.

After some days doing this I finally could get a microscope, well something similar, after getting some free time I could finally look into my DNA and see what was different from a baseline human, and to my surprise I was very different, first of all my nucleic acids, proteins and lipids do not get damaged, which means that I am ageless, the second thing is that my DNA is constantly adapting at a very slow rate, I would probably have to wait around 10 years to see some difference and finally is a little change from the normal human DNA that I can make some assumptions because of my situation, I am probably a Psyker of a very low level, around Omicron in the scale, this has some benefits and consequences, I get cool magic, demons want my head, I get really cool magic, I get hunted by the inquisition.

After that, I changed a bit my daily schedule, every day I would try to meditate one hour before going to sleep, with plans in mind of augmenting that time as my body adapts to sleeping less, I also started doing some exercise in my free time, all the other time was spent with mindless memorization.
