He had failed as a king

He had failed as a father, as he wasn't able to protect his sons the very day they had been born.

Being struck by the feeling of helplessness Kai couldn't help but let out a smile as he recalled the days he had spent as a child leading up to this very moment.

Kai had been raised on a low tier planet in a low tier universe where world energy was at its lowest, during those times of his childhood he had already faced the cruelty that reality had to offer as he was forced to feel the pain of losing his parents. His parents weren't around anymore as they had been killed and robbed by a well-known group of thieves during the time known as " Phantoms".

During the time as Kai was completely oblivious of the cruelty that was happening to his parents, he met another man that day who he would, later on, call his second father as he bumped into him accidentally while walking on the path home.

This middle-aged man with fiery red hair and blue eyes who Kai had just bumped into had taken a look at kai. Using his higher cultivation power to infiltrate the young man before him power affinity he was struck with surprise as this 6 years old looking boy carried a frightening affinity for the fire element. (the power scaling will be introduced, don't worry)

Bumping into the man due to him not paying attention Kai immediately apologized and continued to walk forward hoping to get home before the sunset. The man not wasting this heaven-sent chance to finally have a disciple suitable of his teachings called out to Kai and introduced himself as Azar. Proposing the idea for him to become a disciple of his, Kai was struggling with what choice he would make but he then declined as he had no aspiration to fight.

Surprised by his choice, Azar was disappointed as he was sure that every person wanted the chance to have power. Seeing Kai walk away even farther he decided to follow Kai back home without Kai knowing as he disappeared from the spot he was standing as if no one was ever there from the beginning.

Deep in thought about the man's earlier request Kai couldn't help to think that maybe he should've agreed, but that was in the past now and nothing could be done.

*sniff

*sniff

Smelling what seemed to be fire Kai dashed forth in the greatest speed his little body could muster, getting closer to his destination Kai could see black smoke rising in the air and the risk of his parents being in danger rose to another level.

No….. NOOOOOO

MOTHER, FATHERR

What greeted him was a burned down house and two bodies lying lifelessly on the ground. Ignoring the destruction of his home he directed his attention to the newly discovered bodies, praying inside his mind that these people weren't who he thought they were.

Finally being able to get a good look at the bodies Kai paused, not in just his movement but his breathing stopped. He couldn't nor wanted to blink as the image in front of him was being painted in his mind. His prayers were useless at this point, his mother had a stab wound in the middle of her forehead as the insides of her head revealed itself to the naked eyes of Her son.

Looking at the body beside him, he bursted out in tears and turned away as the body of his father beside him had one eye missing. Following his burst in tears, the pain he felt right now seemed to never end as he was constantly bombarded by his emotions.

Kai felt like his world had crumbled, he had nowhere to go and quite honestly he wasn't even sure if he wanted to live anymore. Clenching his hands, Kai inhaled and exhaled deeply as he told himself he would never allow something like this to repeat itself in the future. Unknowingly to him, this lighted a spark within him.

Do you want power?

Turning around quickly Kai was surprised and cautious as the man he had bumped into before was standing behind him.

What do you mean? Kai asked cautiously

I mean exactly what I said, do you want power? Do you want the power to prevent this from happening again or do you want to be weak all your life? If you want to be strong then follow me, I'll train you.

Listening to what Azar told him, Kai was shocked. Something told him inwardly that he should follow this man, it was like a gut feeling that he knew he had to trust.

I want to be stronger…. PLEASE TEACH ME

Then get up, I will never allow a disciple of mine to be on his knees.

The weakness he felt in his body disappeared quickly as the words struck him.

Master, before we go can we bury my parents over at the tree on that hill. That tree… It was special to them, it was the place they first met.

Seeing the saddened look on Kai's face he said nothing as he extended his hand lifting the two lifeless bodies, walking in the direction towards the tree as the bodies followed closely behind them.

The tree was beautiful, it's glowing pink colored leaves swayed in the air only adding to its beauty. Shortly after arriving, the master and disciple duo buried Kai's parents. Completing what they had come to do, Azar walked back. Kai clenched his fist once again and said said in a soft voice…

"mother, father ill make you proud in this life. Don't worry about me anymore because one day ill be strong enough to protect those I love. I'll be sure to have grandchildren to mom, so you don't have to worry about that haha…. I love you guys"

Finishing his words Kai walked away never looking back.

*Flashback Over

Remembering those moments of his childhood, how much he had worked to get to where he was, he was unwilling to just let it all end like this.

"25th Volume, Phoenix Incarnate" Kai said softly

Following his words, he exploded in flames. At this moment his body was no more, he was the true embodiment of the flames itself. The image of a Phoenix appeared behind Kai as he yelled out in pain, this image began to grow in size becoming more vivid.

What the hell is with this energy!? One of the black-clothed individuals said while they backed away to ensure their safety.

This is similar to that attack we saw the archangel Michael perform when fighting against one of the high gods 200 years ago. The woman named Achlys who had saved the man Kai was close to killing.

AHHHHH!!!

The flames coming from Kai stopped…

SCREECHHH

Following this screech that made those who heard it cover their ears, the flames busted again and the body of Kai transformed into a Phoenix. Its body was golden in color but flames of several colors could be seen on all parts of its body giving off the idea that they were alive.

Looking down at the red pupil man who was now showing a serious expression, Kai who was now a Phoenix raced down towards him at a terrifying speed leaving behind a trail of fire in the sky with his jaw wide open ferociously biting his arm off.

Ahhh!!! Fuck! STOP HIM!!

Not letting the chance to finish what he started to go to waste, Kai(phoenix) opened his mouth and let out a breath of fire towards the man he had just inflicted damage on.

Extending his arms, purple and red chains left out of the red pupil man sleeve coiling itself around him to protect its master.

The rest of the black-clothed individuals weren't wasting time either as several attacks varying in different elements were now being fired towards kai with killing intent.

SCREECH!!

Flying in the sky, kai maneuvered throughout the sky dodging the attacks while letting out fire breaths towards his enemies. His fire breaths weren't the only attack he had in the vault, spinning in the sky at Mach 12 speed a fire tornado was formed and continued to grow larger along with the heat it emitted.

*BOOM

The tornado burst into flames, giving the impression they were angry at someone or something the flames attacked in multiple directions wildly.

Even the army of both sides were affected by what was happening above them as they were forced to cover themselves in energy to protect themselves from being heavily injured

The black-clothed individuals spread out, chanting some ancient words as a blue net surrounded the place where kai was flying seeming to want to trap him in it forever.

It was a contest of perseverance and strength between the two attacks, both attacks wanting to shatter each other but were unable to, leading into a constant struggle for power.

Achlys! Do it now!

One of the black-clothed individuals yelled towards the same woman who had saved their comrade from dying earlier.

Not wasting any time, Achlys took off her hood showcasing a beautifully crafted face and a third eye in the middle of her forehead with black irises that gave the impression of a deep abyss when looked too closely at them.

A purple beam fired towards the sky opening a black portal, soon multiple monstrous-looking hands reached out from the portal. The hands were green in color, but hints of black color were on the tips of the long red fingernails this mysterious entity had.

An ear-splitting noise was heard as 3 heads along with the rest of the body appearing out of the portal as it fell towards kai and wrapped itself around the blue net and kai. This monster was ugly beyond belief, it's body carried 3 heads that had scars on each head showing the insides of their mouth and brain, the tongues of this creature had spikes on it and its eyes had no irises as only it was just completely black. Its body was even worse, the rib cage of this beast was shown to the public, its bones and organs that were purple shined brightly in the sun even though it was disgusting to look at.

Wrapping itself around the blue net, it's body melted into a green acidic liquid that surrounded itself around the net.

….

….

The green liquid exploded, drips of the liquid fell from the sky as if it was raining. To say this attack was dangerous was an understatement as even a single drop burned through the ground going down to the planet's core.

The disappearance of the attack made the black-clothed individuals slightly less worried but they were still cautious as any sign of kai was gone.

What is that? One of the black-clothed people asked while looking at the stop the attack had just happened

What he saw was a little spark in the air floating in the same place that kai once was.

Wait! Is he-

Before he could muster out the rest of his words, an ear-piercing screech was heard, and the little spark now became bigger. What happened next is what surprised them the most as it related to the old stories of a Phoenix told to children as a bedtime story.

The rebirth of a Phoenix…
