18 Meeting of the Family's part 1
Alex Smacked me with a pillow in the face to wake me up. Though she really didn't mean to she was practicing with extra ward stones. She had been working on a technique to grab and throw things with only a ward stone. It wasn't precise but it was good enough that if she was in a bind with only a small ward stone will be fine though it kind of resembled a much weaker version of pains universal push and push.
"Ow," I groaned playfully. She gave a slightly abashed look and turned towards me.
"Your fault sleeping till noon shouldn't you be getting ready for the grand opening I know construction finished only two days ago but you still haven't finished setting the ward scheme." She slightly chides me.
"That's why I was up so late all I have to do is finish out the main sequence in our office it'll take me half an hour the 99 planes won't get here until 4 your family won't get here until 3. It was tricky to link in all the people that are going to be on the grounds to be recognized by the heart zone I don't want to miss anyone and they be booted outside and have to figure out how to wipe their memory of being teleported outside the wards." I say knowing it's only a half-truth I was also trying to learn a bit about potions and rituals it was the first time I had any interest in the subject but since I had finally gotten over the hurdle of a 1000 mana. I Was also well into my fourth year Of the Hogwarts curriculum except for transfiguration, arithmancy, and potions.
I wanted to see if there was any potion that would increase my magic power or my MP regeneration rate. Just Glacius, Incendio, and Bombarda were enough to face a horde of zombies if I had adequate Magical power the more I improve them the better. The biggest magical gain was my growth in legimancy Now 4 out of five times I could cast it wordlessly and Four out of ten I could cast without a wand. The biggest difference is now if I cast it normally I now can alter memories to a degree I still could only practice with birds but I had made progress in changing their minds slightly as I would I had bird seed I made the bird think that the seed it was enjoying wasn't seed at all. It wasn't going to be something I used often on people I believed in free will but hey survival trumps everything.
"How's the project going?" I ask Alex. Alex and her team of scientists have been here for a week though they had complained a lot about the five-day overlap of construction upon their arrival. They were mostly there to set up their labs and workspace because technically since we only had 20 security personnel actually working on projects could be a security hazard well that is what we told them but I just wanted to work out the details of alex's first project between us first.
The plan before was to build a bio tracker but I had noticed a rather large hole in our plan for security for the facility. If someone tries to sneak in the facility with a bite I would have no way to differentiate them from a regular person. The wards only record who is in the boundaries not the condition of the individual. I wanted Alex to get her team to work on a way to scan a person with an active virus and privately me and her could try to configure her science with magic.
Alex fought me on it a bit saying that we should be focusing on the security of the world. I wore her down by pointing out that if I was right the scanner would help with our safety and her family's safety while JUst looking for a tracker for the disease spread would be unnecessary at a certain point because we would all have a passive version of the virus that would become active if we were bitten by a person with an active strain or died.
"I Don't know. I do know that the team liked the idea but they think that we are doing it to prevent epidemics by quarantining infected with a severe virus limiting who is exposed and maybe making it faster for those that are suspected to be exposed that way we can limit obstruction of peoples daily life if we do have to do quarantine an individual. I feel like I'm lying to them." She said a slight tear in her eye. I hugged her from behind.
"I know. I'M Sorry." I tell her. Knowing there is nothing else I can say I mean she is getting her first hard look at what the apocalypse would be like choosing to fight for herself and her family rather than fight to try to track the virus we don't have the resources to do both our team is new. at least this way the work they do will help us. She wipes her tears and gives me a smile gives me a peck on the lips.
"OK GO set up the ward stone you only have 2 and a half hours." She says playfully shoving me away with a small idiot.
I make my way to my underground office resembling the Slytherin common room under a lake and right underneath the hospital/ Research center/ Town hall. The room off it has already been fully stocked with a five years supply 5 people would need. I was good at having a backup plan to a backup plan to a backup plan. A private lab, a room for crafting. A room for potion making, A couple of empty rooms for when I would try rituals maybe I could try to recreate the room of requirements if my enchanting got to that high of a level that was a long way off though.
I finish logging the names of every employee I polish off files on every single person that is registered. I activate the ward scheme. I feel it connects to my magic I feel the rush of power and the long-term effects. If I thought I was powerful enough to look into obscure subjects this morning I felt like I had just taken four shots of pure adrenaline. I calm myself forcefully with my oclumency. I immediately see an alarm and four people on the grounds that aren't registered I am able to stop the wards from kicking them I connect the hearthstone to a medium size ward stone to carry on me. The four signals are coming near the solar panels.
I walk out and grab a golf cart tracking the four signals I'm not in any danger since the apocalypse is still three weeks away but it never hurts to be cautious. I reach them as the last person jumps over the wall. They almost look to be congratulating themselves for getting over the wall. I cough loudly to get their attention. They get startled one girly scream comes from one of them.
'Shit' I think as I look at their faces. Nick, Schmidt, CeCe, and Winston the main cast of the new girl. My mind goes into overdrive I guess it made sense they existed. The 99 did have that episode where Jake takes Jess's car. Jessica day I had logged that name into the hearthstone I thought it was a coincidence there was no picture in the file. She was a teacher that had been recruited for the onsite school. chosen for her, particularly positive psych eval. On paper she was perfect not very close to her parents meaning she most likely wouldn't leave when the apocalypse came I guess whoever did her check didn't account for friends that were like family.
"So what brings You to my neck of the woods?" I ask them trying to make them sweat a bit." I can fix this maybe I can get also recruit them thinking very quickly about what I remember from the show, Nick and jess love each other nicks family in Chicago and he was responsible for until he moved Los Angeles. Schmidt is only close with one cousin. Cece has a large closeknit family but that might have changed after the whole marriage thing. I will invite them to join give them two houses and let them invite their families. Nick would be an asset because he functions under pressure when it is serious a perfect example is his family in Chicago. though he has a nasty habit for avoiding responsibility. Winston might be as well since he was a semi-professional athlete though cece and Schmidt I don't know what they really have to offer.
"Uh, Sorry we came here to see our friend," Nick said kinda awkwardly.
"Yes, a miss Day I presume," I tell them they look shocked.
"I do thorough background checks of all my employees through invitations to families and friends of our personnel were supposed to be for next week." I tell them laughing inside at their confused faces. at that moment pimento drives up in another cart.
I Put up my hands from them talking and Pimento from releasing his crazy on them. I walk over and inform him to try to recruit them give them two houses for the family for the grand opening and I wave goodbye as Pimento leaves with them on his cart. I doubt that all of them will stay they only have two weeks to gather their family and if a family member isn't behind these walls if they are impulsive enough to try to break into a facility to find a friend I bet they're stupid enough to look for a missing family member during the apocalypse. Though I do think it's kind of weird that they showed up at that moment maybe there are some primordial forces watching me like a tv show I should be cautious of whats next.
I make my way back to Alex just as four all black range rovers arrive Jay and Gloria in the first, Manny, Lily and Luke in the second, Phil and Claire in the third and mitch, cam, and their new son in the fourth.
As soon as they step outside of the cars they go wide-eyed at the grounds which are impressive, to say the least,( humble brag but not so humble). after the initial greetings, we finally get around to asking the question.
"where is Haley, Dylan, and the twins," Alex asks.
"Haley said she couldn't take two weeks off with her trying to build a career," Claire said.
