Chapter I

(Zak's POV)

In my last life, I came from an average family. My father spent most of his time at work while my mother took care of the household. At school, I was one of those people destined to be a bully target. I suspect it was due to my weak personality and inability to socialise. Not that it gave the bullies any right whatsoever.

School was a jail and home was my happiness...until it wasn't. My mother found out the reason my dad often came home late was because he was having an affair with a co-worker. That was the end to my family relationship.

Dad left and divorced my mother. My mom fell into despair and turned to alcohol as a remedy for her depression. And I...fell into a dark space. Those days were the worst ones in my life. The whole world through my eyes was just black and white.

One day, on my way home from school, I was cornered by a group of bullies who were ready to beat the crap out of me but I was saved by an old man who chased them away. He was the owner of a traditional music store and a professional erhu [1] player. The first time I heard him play, I cried. The tune was filled with such emotion and made me yearn for a happy life.

The old man offered to teach me for free and I agreed without hesitation. That became the one and only light in my dark life.

Time passed gradually and even after the old man's death when I was in high-school, I continued to practice and play diligently.

My mother disappeared one day and I didn't even bother looking since I knew she only waited till I turned 18 before she could leave. I was sad but I didn't dwell on it for long.

I went to a local university and graduated with average marks and got a job at a marketing company. Life was as normal as it good be. That is until I got a new boss and of course my bad luck card kicked in and in walked my biggest high-school bully. Then came my days of hell.

Why didn't I quit? It was simple really. That bastard didn't let me. He seemed to enjoy torturing me and for what? I could only guess. I wanted to enforce my rights through law but that wasn't possible either. Why? The bastard's father was a freaking high-ranking minister in government.

Why the hell was he working in a marketing firm?!

Yeah now that I think about it, I glad I died. It was better than living that life. My only goal now is to live peacefully in this new world and maybe befriend the main characters.

=================================

Right now, I have successfully made it past my first year in the ATLA world and I gotta say, it hasn't been too bad. I mean, I have food, shelter, clothing and the only person around me is the nanny. What's there to complain about?

Being an avid light novel reader, you can't say I wasn't hopeful to receive a gold finger or something but so far, I seem extremely normal aside from being a fire nation noble. I don't think it counts though since I have no power and was practically abandoned.

Perhaps someone heard my prayer because at this very moment, I heard a cold robotic sound in my head and saw a transparent screen appear in front of me. At first, I thought I was hallucinating but no matter how hard I rubbed my eyes, it was still there.

[System bonding....complete]

[Host has successfully bonded with System]

....A system? Did someone hear my prayer? Thank you whoever you are.

[Would host like to accept rookie gift bag? Y/N]

'Yes.'

[Ding! Congratulations host. You have received one free spin on power wheel]

What is the power wheel?

As soon as I asked that, the screen in front of me transformed into a wheel with question marks in all the spaces.

[Spin to Win]

'Well I'm curious so spin it system.'

The wheel rotated for a couple of seconds before stopping on a question mark

[Ding! Congratulations host. You have received the technique: Breath of Water from Demon Slayer]

'EHHHH??? Wait, wait wait it's not a fire bending ability? I'll be killed if I cultivate this.'

[All knowledge of technique has been transferred to host's mind]

I felt a flood of information enter my brain and I blinked in shock. The information consisted of the forms of the Breath of Water and how to cultivate it. It was so clear and my understanding of the technique was deep. I wouldn't mind trying it out but...I'm only one and can barely move on my own.

*Sigh* How frustrating. But although I cannot practice the breath right now, I can still work on my breathing ability and what is called? Oh right, chi. Chi is considered to be the root of bending so it shouldn't be a bad idea to learn how to regulate it. Additionally, I could practice chi blocking one day like Ty Lee who used it to go against benders being a non-bender.

Uncle Iroh once said to Zuko that chi can be felt swirling around in one's body so I reached into my consciousness and tried to feel for it.

...

Nope. I don't feel anything. Is it because I'm too young?

Whatever, there's no harm in trying again. This time, I did my best to focus more and try to feel the surrounding energy in my body. Since I was alone in my room, I didn't have to worry about anyone staring weirdly at me and shut my eyes tightly.

After a few minutes, I finally felt a small wisp of energy.

My eyes snapped opened and I let out a tired breath. That was incredibly difficult to sense. But I still have many years ahead of me so I'll just practice everyday.

[Ding! Host has successfully located inner chi and will now receive a reward]

[10 credits have been added to your account]

Credits? What is that for?

[Credits can be added to stats or skills to increase proficiency]

I see. System, show skills.

[Host Skills =

• Breath of Water: (N/A)

• Chi channelling: (0 / 100) ]

'Add 10 credits to chi channelling'

[Ding! Transferred 10 credits to Chi Channelling skill]

Right after, I felt a warm fluctuation in my body.

A/N: Almost forgot but the 'erhu' is a traditional Chinese instrument that's sort of like a violin. I think other asian races use it too. Just google it for reference. It's a really nice sounding instrument.
