32 Underneath the Bandages

Not a single strand of hair was left on the floor. Arnold was very tidy. He did a good job, too. My hair was dry now. I looked at it in the mirror. It looked much more even than before.

When I held my hair in a bunch, I could feel the freshly cut tips. It looked too plain, though. I liked my hair better when it was in some sort of style.

After a bit of rummaging through the cupboards in my bathroom, I found a hair band. It was strong but small.

I pulled chunks of hair from both sides of my head. Now, hair would not fall in front of my face. The two chunks met in the middle back of my head. I joined them together with the hair band.

My hair looked a little stylish, but not overly dressing. After all, I was no more than a servant.

As I exited the bathroom, my waist started to itch. The itch was by the bandages covering the bullet hole.

Something crossed my mind. Why did I feel no pain when I tried getting over the wall? My wound should have started bleeding. Badly.

Maybe that was why Eon was so calm letting me try to escape. He thought I would be unable to did it due to my injury.

Confused, I pulled my dress off and pulled at the bandages. I didn't feel any sting. The bandages peeled off with a bit of tugging.

I backed up quickly. Right into a post on my bed. Ugh. My head hurt real back. I slapped my hand to the back of my head. A large bump could be felt.

There was no wound on my waist. It was gone. There wasn't even a scar. That wasn't possible!

I needed to tell Eon. Maybe it was the expensive herbs he bought? Alma said they were pricey. Eon probably just wanted to scare me when he told me I couldn't go anywhere.

But what type of miracle herbs work this fast?

My dress was still off. I slipped it on and ran towards the door so fast I ran into it. The door swung open and I took off down the hall.

I nearly tripped running down the staircase. That was followed by a sharp turn. Eon's library. He was in there. I ran to the library only to be greeted by nothing. Shoot. Maybe the dinning room?

Eon wasn't in the dining room. I became frustrated. Where could he be? Sure, I had only checked two places, but I didn't know where else to look.

Eon's room!

Why hadn't I thought about it before? I should've check there first. It seemed like I always found a way to waste time. Back to the staircase.

The front door knob clicked. That could be Eon! I started to run to the front door when an angry voice caught me off guard.

"Where are you going?" It was Eon. He walked towards me with a large frown.

"You should know running off results in punishment."

"Eon! It's gone!" I shouted.

"What? Gone?" Eon had no idea what I was talking about. He slowed his pace to a stop.

I ran to him and grabbed his arm.

"Lumine, what is the meaning of this?"

I didn't reply, but instead dragged him into the nearest room I could find. It was a storage room. Old boxes surrounded us.

I began to pull the top of my dress down to my waist.

"What is gone?" Eon looked confused. His eyes widened.

"Where are the bandages? Taking them off and exposing the wound could cause an infection. Wait, did they fall off?" he questioned me as I pull the top down.

"I don't need them. The wound is gone!" I felt as if I was going to burst.

Eon looked dumbfounded.

"No herbs or any type of medicine works that fast," he said.

"I know! What does this mean?" I asked him, doubtful he had an answer.

Eon shook his head.

"I don't know."

The two of us stood in place for a few minutes. Eon closed his eyes and paced in a few circles. Suddenly, he stopped. Eyes wide, Eon said, "It could have been the hammer head."

That was true. The hammer head had done strange things before. But healing a wound? That was a little far-fetched. Although, the hammer head did bring me here in the first place.

We knew so much about its powers. Why wasn't anything being done?

"Eon, if the hammer head really is the prison for a spirit, why aren't we trying to look into it? Why aren't we trying to free the spirit?" I looked at Eon with confusion. He gave me a stern look.

"We don't know which spirit is imprisoned. If we release the darkness spirit, things could get bad with it running loose."

"The darkness spirit is not imprisoned in the hammer head. I have proof."

Eon's eyes widened.

"How can you be so sure?"

"First of all, the darkness spirit would never heal my wound. It tried to kill the light spirit."

"It could be tricking you. Manipulation is easy with lots of power. What is your other reason?"

"The song about the willow. It has a hidden meaning."

I don't know who was more surprised to see my healed wound: Eon or me?
