2 Leah... - 2

Opening the door to my sister's hotel room my nose is instantly filled with a revolting stench. "Leah, what the hell have you been doing in here! It reeks!"

As I scan the room for something that I can blame for the foul odour I find my older sister standing at the other end of the room, facing away from me. "Leah?" I take a few steps closer, her hair is tatted and she looks as though she just woke up. "I'm sorry to wake you up but…"

I look down to her feet where the once beige carpet is now stained a deep red and only what I can assume is my mother's hand lays out from behind the bed. What the hell, "Mum? Leah what happened in here! Why didn't you call an ambulance!"

She replies with a small grunt and slowly turns to face me. "Look, I don't know what the hell happened here, but you still could have told us to get an amb…"

She's fully facing me now, her once white shirt now painted with blood, her once tan skin now tinted purple. Blood dripping from her lips, making her look psychotic. She raises her frail hand and stumbles towards me, like a toddler wanting a lolly.

I 'm frozen in shock; my feet suddenly glued to the floor beneath me as my monster-like sister reaches to grab me

She reaches my arm and I feel the cold of her skin brush against mine as I'm brought back to reality, this isn't my sister.

I swiftly turn and although my legs unsteady, I am faster than her to leave the room.

Sprinting out of the room I swiftly turn around the corner and blindly search my pocket for the key card. Cautiously turning around to check if my monster of a sister has managed to follow me, I swipe the small card on the panel and slam the wooden door behind me.

"Hmm… you good?" Dakota asks. Shit, I forgot about them.

Well to start with, my sister was covered in blood that I can only assume was my mums, I'm probably an orphan and we are stuck in this small room because if we go into the hall my sister will fricken eat us! So no, I am not good.

"Bay?"

"huh?" I'm pulled out of my thoughts, "Oh, yeah. Umm… they weren't there."

"oh, that's weird but k."

"Um… Kota, I know he probably won't answer since he's got a new wife and stuff but I was thinking of calling my dad…" It's stupid but he's the only person I can think to call.

"Eh, do what you want. We're stuck here anyway."

I take my phone out of my pocket and dial the number I never thought I'd call again.

"Hello?" he answers. I'm not religious but thank god, he might be able to help.

"Hi, Dad…" I try to think of a way to explain what's happened… "Uh... It's Baylee, something happened, and I need some hel-"

"Just kidding, I can't come to the phone right now, leave a message" the voice-recording cuts off.

"Damnit!" I hang up on him, he's too busy with his new family in Sydney to even answer the damn phone.

So, my dad doesn't care about us and my sister ate my mum. Well, don't we have a perfect fricken family then?

"No answer?"

"Nah, he's a dick anyway, it's fine."

"We just gonna wait up here then?" Kota reaches into their pocket.

"Yeah, there's nothing else we can really do…"

Kota sets a pack of cards down in front of them "I brought Uno?"

"Maybe in a minute…"

I go over to the window and move the curtain so I can look outside, it's a ghost town now. There's no one around besides a couple abandoned cars. Across the street there's a smashed window, where a newsagent once stood. I was going to explore this city, it's Christmas break and I was going to use these weeks to spend as much time with my friends as I could, we were going to see a movie, try this new ice-cream, go to the beach. But… but now it's ruined, now we're stuck in a cramped hotel room with no movies, no ice-cream and definitely no beaches… Instead of the sunset views, we're stuck with bloodied roads, instead of the tans we're stuck with a blinking light.

"Aye, stop worrying, come here and play" Kota pulls me out of my thoughts. "I know the name means one but I can't play alone!"

"I'm coming" I reluctantly sit on the floor with them.

"Also, you have blood on your arm."
