Groaning, Jack opened his eyes.

"Uhhh..." he moaned quietly, closing them due to the bright sunlight. He covers his eyes with his hands and lies still, trying to beat back the massive headache he has.

"I'm never drinking again," he said pitifully.

After a few minutes, he opened his eyes again, squinting against the light. As his vision clears, he sees that he's lying in the grass with a bunch of trees around him.

"Where the hell am I?"

Jack tries to think of how he ended up here. Then his eyes widened in shock as he remembered what happened to him.

-Flashback-

Walking home from work, Jack's exhausted. Working 10 hours a day just so his boss can take all the credit for his work is hell, but he doesn't know of a way out.

Stopping at the street corner, Jack sees a group of kids playing with a ball when one misses it, and it rolls into the street. One kid runs out to get it when a car comes speeding at him. Jack sees this but doesn't react. He's no hero that's going to run and push the kid out of the way.

'Should have looked both ways.' Jack thought to himself

That's when it happened. The car swerved right before hitting the kid and headed his way fast. Before he could react, Jack is thrown through the air and smacked hard into the sidewalk.

His last thought before everything goes dark is, 'I fucking hate kids.'

-End of Flashback-

"Holy shit!" He screamed in shock. Jack sits up and looks around.

'What the hell happened to me? I was hit by a car, and now I'm in a forest?' He thinks. He tries to stay calm, but it's impossible. One second he's dying on the ground, then he wakes up in a different place completely fine.

Standing up, Jack looks around and notices a black backpack lying on the ground near him. Grasping for any help he can, Jack goes to pick it up. As Jack reaches down for it, he sees something strange. Jack looks at his hands and realizes they look different than they used to. They looked less worn. The tiny scars he accumulated over his 28 years of life we're missing.

Feeling his panic increase by the second, Jack opens the backpack to see if anything inside can help him understand what had happened to him. He looks through one of its compartments and finds things like water, food, clothes, a sleeping bag.

"How does all this stuff fit in this one compartment?" Jack wonders to himself as he finds a letter with his name on it. Hoping it would shed some light on his situation, Jack opens it.

It said, 'Hello, Jack. I hope you enjoy your new life and the gifts I've given you.'

Best Wishes, %$#@&

PS - 'Check your pocket' xoxo ;)

Then the letter disappeared as if it never existed.

"What the fuck is going on?!"

-Sometime Later-

After completely freaking out for an indiscriminate amount of time, Jack is sitting against a tree, trying to come to terms with his situation.

Remembering what the letter said, Jack reaches into his pocket. What he finds is an ID. Though other than the name, everything on it is different. The picture is a much younger version of himself, but with black hair instead of his brown, green eyes instead of his hazel and slightly paler skin.

According to the ID, he's 16 years old and from somewhere called Viridian City.

'Why does that sound so familiar.' he thought to himself.

As he tries to remember the significance of Viridian City, Jack feels something strange. He somehow senses something approaching him. As it gets closer, Jack hears something moving to his left. Out of the grass came an animal. It was a foot-tall purple rodent-looking creature, and it stopped a dozen feet away and stared at him. He stared back.

That lasted a few moments until he suddenly had a realization.

"Wait... Is that a Pokémon?"
