Chapter 14. Silvia.

"So, anyone knows how many years it has been since demons appeared?" A cold, stern voice sounded, asking the students sitting in the classroom.

The classroom had a total of 50 children.

"It has been 1008 years." A guy instantly stood up and answered.

"Good, now…." The teacher was about to ask another question, but a bell rang, indicating the end of the class.

Ding! Ding! 

"Prepare well for the graduation exam in a week." The middle-aged man said seriously while leaving the class.

"Yes, teacher."

"Yes."

"Yes, sir."

All the students responded accordingly, then they rushed out of the classroom to their houses.

One girl slowly picked up her bag as some students came towards her.

"Silvia, how about a combined study?"

"It would be great if you came."

Five of the students pleaded with her to come for group studies.

"No." Silvia rejected them indifferently, disregarding their pleading.

She left gracefully, holding her bag.

"So cold; what's so great about her? Beautiful, genius, so what?" One girl asked angrily, kicking the floor.

"Oliva shut up; she is cold since she watched everyone get killed."

"Don't forget that she is one of the few survivors of Willowbrook City."

"I heard from the teacher that she used to be very friendly before."

All students went on their way after discussing.

Orphan's street. Female orphan house 4520, Room 010. ----

Silvia's room is given to her by the city administration, as she is an orphan. Orphan houses are made from 'Wood manipulation', a B-Rank skill.

Each orphan room has a space of two square meters, which is just enough for a small bed, desk, and wardrobe for clothes.

After coming inside her house, she placed her bag and freshened up in the washroom outside, which is shared by her housemates.

She lives on an orphan street, where orphans live. A street that was made for orphans.

After washing up, she took out her books and began revising for the graduation exam. After revising for one hour, she took the 'Demon Encyclopaedia.' which has the details of demons. 'Demon Encyclopaedia' was based on the details humans gained from fighting the demons over the years.

After two hours passed, she had dinner and took out the 'Magical Beast Encyclopaedia', which she began reading.

At midnight, she closed all the books and fell asleep.

"Silvia, hide here; don't come out."

"Goldie, use a fire barrier and flame bind." A beautiful middle-aged lady said solemnly to Silvia, after which she commanded her magical beast.

"Char, Char."

A flame barrier rose up, covering Silvia as Charmeleon pointed his claws at her. She was tied up by flames.

"Mom, why don't you hide?" Silvia asked her mom while holding her tears back, understanding that her mother would go out to fight demons.

Silvia's mom took a scroll and used it on her.

"Take care, dear." Silvia's mom said tearfully while rushing out.

"Mom." Silvia wanted to run after her mom but couldn't as she was tied up by warm flames.

"Kehhehee, this is the end! humans."

"Keh Keh Keh, DARK FLAME RISE."

A joyful, demonic voice echoed throughout the entire city.

Huge black flame pillars rose up from the ground.

"Ahhhhhhhh." A flame pillar rose up from below Silvia's mom, which burned her and her magical beast to death.

"MOMMMMMMMMMMMM." Silvia watched helplessly as her mom burned to death.

"Mommmm." She shouted, waking up from her sleep.

AHH, same dream again.

Her head was throbbing with pain.

After drinking some water and taking her medicine, she reached for "How to Train a Magical Beast" and began reading.

The sky was still dark. She knew that she wouldn't fall asleep having had that dream, so she began studying.

Soon, seven days passed by. ----

"I hope everyone prepared well for the exam." The teacher said while handing the question papers to the students.

Silvia looked at the question paper.

First question: what is the name of the city we live in? And give some details about it.

Clellas; it is a middle-class city with a population of around 500,000 and an area of 175 square kilometres.

She answered the question without a problem. Even though this question might seem silly, it is very important, as many cities were wiped out by demons suddenly.

If, by chance, this city was wiped out, this question would at least make people remember in the future that this kind of city once existed.

The second question; briefly explain the human federation system?

She explained about the human federation system very precisely: the human federation system was formed in the year 74 of the dark age, when the government collapsed and there was no official body to take care of the public.

The human federation is headed by the 'High Council'. The High Council is responsible for all decisions made for mankind. In stark contrast to the peaceful ages of yore, there exists no singular president; instead, policies are only enacted when unanimously approved by all members of the esteemed High Council.

It should be enough.

She stopped believing the matter was good enough, even though she knew more.

Third question: what is the entire population of humans?

She answered it as around 3 billion right away.

In the peaceful years, the population hit a count of approximately 15 billion, but now it fell to 3 billion.

Fourth question: how many demon kings are known to mankind? (Optional)

She answered while feeling angry—108 in total.

Fifth question: explain about magical beasts? (Optional)

She answered while remembering her father's and mother's magical beasts; Magical beasts are creatures who can fight against demons; they gave hope to mankind when humans lost hope in the dark age as humans don't have any kind of ability.

They appeared along with demons. A human can form a contract with only a single magical beast in their entire life. When humans turn 16 years old, they can form a contract.

She looked around after answering, as the question paper had only five questions. All of the kids were focused on answering the question.

 "I completed the exam." She handed over her answer sheet to the teacher, after which she left the classroom.

After a few days.

"Everyone has successfully graduated, so we will shortly begin the contract ceremony." The teacher said while looking at the excited and noisy kids.

More than 100 students have gathered in the school hall. The teacher stood on the podium with his magical beast, 'Machop'.

This is one of many halls in Clellas City's Beginner School.

Students didn't stop chatting.

"I want the Charmander to be my partner."

"I want Pikachu." It's very cute."

"I want Dragonite. It is very powerful."

After everyone graduates, the school management provides them with a contract ceremony. A contract ceremony is where people form contract with magical beasts.

"Gravvvv."

"Gravvv."

A strong sound echoed through the hall, silencing everyone.

"It's the deputy city lord." Someone called out, looking at the man entering the hall with his magical beast.

Everyone looked at the man, who was in his twenties.

The man quickly came to the podium and stood next to the teacher.

"Welcome, deputy city lord." The teacher warmly greeted the man.

"Thanks, teacher Mark." The man accepted the greeting.

"I hope each and every one forms a contract with a strong magical beast and trains them to their best. I hope everyone becomes strong." The deputy city lord encouraged everyone.

"Now we will begin the ceremony with David." Teacher called the kid in the front.

A muscular kid in the front climbed the podium and stood in a circle formation.

"I will begin now." Teacher Mark said calmly, signalling his Machop to pour its spirit energy into the formation.

The circle formation under David shone with multiple colours.

"Name your partner, David." Mark pointed to David who was looking excitedly at his magical beast.

"Sam, I name you Sam." He stated while holding his magical beast in his arms.

"Squirtle. Squirtle."

[ Ding! Synchronizing ]

"David, you can step down." Teacher Mark signalled for him to back down.

He quickly went to his friends.

"Whoa! A Squirtle."

"It is quite strong, according to researchers."

"My magical beast will also be very strong."

His friend ganged up on his Squirtle when he came down from the podium.

"Next Rahul."

"What do you want a magical beast to be?" Oliva asked Silvia with a plain expression, as she felt that Silvia wouldn't be so lucky in terms of a magical beast as she already had beauty, luck, and knowledge on her side.

"It doesn't matter what kind it is. It just has to be strong." Silvia stated while reading 'How to train a magical beast' book.

Huh, so confident.

Oliva was very jealous of Silvia's confidence, beauty, and knowledge. No matter how she looked at it, she couldn't help but feel inferior in comparison.
