29 CH 29 a short dream and a small slice of life

It was dark, and hell is hot. Nah im fucking around. Props to whoever knows the song that comes from.

(A/N quick little warning for those that care. I am following the RWBY show obviously but either my memories or the show is different than how I imagine/remember it. Point is i will now be starting the inevitable changes Vyr has brought to the world. This means the story won't follow the story exactly. Some events might happen later or might not even happen. It's just how the story goes. I will be trying to stick with cannon more or less, but like i said for those who care, IT WON'T BE THE SAME AS THE SHOW. now enjoy.)

It was dark, and cold. Vyr tried to move but found there was no ground beneath her feet.

She was floating!

Surrounded on all sides by the dark, no landmarks to even get a sense of direction. And to top it all off there wasn't even ground beneath her.

'Great' Vyr thought in a sarcastic monotone. ' I'm back here again. What's with this place? Every night with this never ending darkness. Whatever, at least it's comfortable.'

Vyr shifted her body and sprawled out in the void as if it were just a bed. Nothing about her spoke about panic. She seemed used to the dark surrounding her.

She waited like she always did. Every time she came here it would be the same thing over and over again.

Just her and the dark. No light and nothing to see.

The first time here she had a panic attack. She had mistaken this void from the void before her death/suicide. The only difference here is there were no softly dying stars in the far distance, or the ever freezing vacuum of space luring all but her into its cold grasp.

No after the first time she realized this was something else. Though it may look similar to the place she took her life, this was a whole different beast.

Now, as with all the other times she was here, she lay across the void spreading her prototype particles and magic out. The red, black, and blue energy/particles slowly escaped into the dark fading out the farther they went.

If one were to look at the scene from a meter or two away they would see a girl laying on a bed of all consuming black. While the "sheets" she lied upon shimmered and rippled out from her form.

Vyr lay there for who knows how long before moving once more. She had felt something new this time!

Everytime before she would only test how large this place was, never touching upon anything but something she herself had put in any direction. Now though she felt something move just at the edge of her perception.

It was fleeting, but it was there. Most would shudder at the thought of something lurking around them out of sight. But not Vyr.

She willed herself to move towards it using any means necessary. Soon however she realized it was slow going. Even without any landmarks she could FEEL she only moved a few feet. Thinking, she devised a better way of moving.

When mana is formed in a certain way and compressed enough it will take a physical form. This is the principle behind the Crystal soul spear in Dark souls. If she could somehow form the crystal around her extended chain darts from her prototype, and keep the crystal in place with magic. Then she could move around even in the void!

She reached inside herself as she had always done before. Not the preset paths the Music Magic had given her. She reached for the magic she had made herself from hours, days, months, even years of struggle. When she had the world around her changed.

No longer was it an empty abyss. Now it was an endless sea, dark and calm. No waves or ripples disturbed the mirror-like surface.

'Well that's new.? Wonder what new fuckery this is…'

Vyr turned her head from the water at her feet to look into the distance, trying to find what it was that she felt with her magic. But no matter where she looked she couldn't see anything. Only the reflection of herself on the water below.

Looking back down to the water she saw something unexpected. The ripples she created (turning to look for whatever it was) were clashing against small ripples she didn't notice before.

She looked into the distance once more, or at least she tried. But when she looked ahead she realized she was back in bed holding Ruby.

'Fuck and it was just getting interesting. What time is it?' reaching past ruby who was on the outside of the bed she grabbed her scroll off the post of the bed.

'Stupid awesome hanging bed, making me have no where to put my stuff. Fuck its 2AM. Well now that I'm up might as well do something. Can't go back to sleep anyway.'

She carefully maneuvered herself from Ruby's embrace and put her years of training to the utmost test. Dressing and leaving the room without disturbing the sleeping cat girl nearby. Truly the most meaningful use of her Witcher skills.

Having successfully left the room Vyr quickly made her way to the personal forge Ospin left her. Even with all the classes she had, personal training, training with the team, and time she spent with Ruby. Vyr always tried to continue her blacksmithing project.

And her efforts were showing results. No longer was she throwing away whole half formed blades and huge chunks of badly tempered metal. Now she had a single large razor sharp sword. All that was left to do is the handle and pommel along with the enchantment to go with it. Though technically it would be a curse not an enchantment but potato, tomato, meh magic is magic. Vyr sat down on her chair in front of the sword and began the process of hilting the massive blade.

Hours flew by as more and more materials failed to meet her standards, and soon a literal red haired girl stood behind her.

*\Ruby POV/*

I woke up not long ago and found myself alone in bed. This brought a sense of discomfort as I couldn't tell what was wrong. But soon my brain was working fully and I realized what was missing. VYR! She wasn't in bed anymore!

I looked around the room and saw her scroll was gone as well. Knowing her, she had gone to work in her forge again. I quickly got up and got dressed before allowing my feet to carry me wherever they would. It was an ability I found out about not long ago. Turns out according to Vyr I subconsciously seek out her personal magic print with my magic and follow it to her without realizing. I blushed remembering how she never let me go after figuring it out that day.

I soon found Vyr lost in her work again. Like usual she had shed almost all her clothing while working. So now all she was only wearing her essential clothing, as she likes to call them. Meaning a tank top she seems to have pilfered from me, and a pair of shorts. She wasn't even wearing shoes.

Looking at the back of Vyr I once again felt my stomach twist and my heart hurt seeing all of the scars. I had asked her once why she never made them go away even though she could.

*\small flashback/*

Vyr and ruby were hanging out in their room waiting for the next set of classes to roll around. They were currently playing games on the TV, while the rest of the team had gone off to do something or other.

(Ruby) "Hey Vyr, you said you could change how you look at will right? So why do you leave all of your scars alone?"

(Vyr) "That's a pretty hard question Ruby. I guess there are many reasons though. Geralt once said "Hrmph""

That earned her a punch on the arm as ruby had long heard of Geralt and his many grunts.

"Be serious, why do you leave them?"

*sigh* "well like I said. There are a few reasons. The Witchers always wore thier's as a badge of honor more or less. So I've kinda always seen it as something to be proud of. I know all y'all round here don't see it the same way but I don't know it just is something i like you know? Like a reminder of how far I've come and what I've done."

*\flashback over/*

I was tweaking the wrapping of the handle when I heard a small bell like giggle behind me. I released the tension that my focused work had slowly instilled into me as I listened to the melodic chimes.

Not for the first time I thought 'I should record Ruby's laugh and make a song of it. Maybe a happy music playlist.'

(Ruby) "I knew I would find you here."

I laugh and say "with your new "ability" you could probably find me anywhere"

Ruby pouts a bit, still embarrassed by her newfound talent, but quickly cheers up as she says " I guess that means you can't hide anymore. No more sense training for me!"

"I guess so. Now we just have more time to focus on your other training while I find a solution."

Things fall into a comfortable silence for a moment as I get to a stopping point in my work. As I turned in my chair to face Ruby she sat down in my lap. Used to it at this point, I just wrap my arms around her waist and ask "Did you sleep well?"

Ruby makes herself comfortable and answers a content "mmh hhmm"

It takes a minute but I finally work up my courage a bit before saying "hey ruby, Do you mind going somewhere with me this weekend?"

"Where do you want to go?"

"Don't worry about it, it's a surprise. If you don't want to just say so, we don't have to go."

Ruby quickly waves her hand and says "no no. I want to go. I was just curious. Can I get a hint?"

"Dress for combat, but you don't have to worry about food and supplies."
