18 This Isn't Working

Slowly, Lin Fang was getting back the control of his body. It was hard to notice at first but he could slowly affect the movements of his in-game character. As he fought against the Greenwood Spirit, he realized that both of them were terribly injured and bleeding heavily.

His body was covered in claw marks while the Greenwood Spirit was stabbed in various places. We are roughly equal, he thought in his mind. Even though his level was far lower than his enemy, he was still able to fight him on an equal ground, this showed how tyrannical the strength of his class was and how pitifully weak his gaming skills were. All this was also under the premise that he still hadn't broken the chains that bound him, if he did break the chains then...

But as the control of the body returned to him, he realized the chains had started fading and the Greenwood spirits speed was increasing. No, it was his speed that was decreasing. If he couldn't break the chains now, then he didn't know how long it would take for him to get such an opportunity again. As he thought of this he started struggling to get rid of them.

Intense pain covered Lin Fang's body as he fought against the forces that bound him making it hard for him to focus on the battle. This gave the Greenwood Spirit a chance as he noticed a gap between Lin Fang's defence and attacked immediately. Lin Fang who was surprised by the intense pain couldn't cope with the attack and chains simultaneously, so the attack hit him and sent him flying.

The Greenwood Spirit took a deep breathe as it used its paws to remove the blood on his face. It was terrified of the strength shown by Lin Fang. His strength only made it more determined to kill Lin Fang and remove a potential enemy from its path.

"Let's end this", The Spirit said.

He started moving towards Lin Fang only to realize that its leg was injured pretty badly. He still did not give up as the fear of Lin Fang far outweighed the pain he felt from his body. He slowly started dragging its injured foot towards Lin Fang's body on which the chains were starting to disappear. Just when he reached Lin Fang and raised its claw to end Lin Fang's life, a voice came from the person he had forgotten during this whole ordeal.

"That's far enough Spirit."

He turned around to find Flame Princess smiling at him, her smile was so big that it completely hid her eyes leaving only cracks behind. His back shivered as it realized what was in her hand. It was a massive fireball which was already as big as her and was still growing.

"You think you can kill me with something slow and weak like that?", he tried to bluff his way through hoping that he would scare her into retreat. If he was at its peak, he surely wouldn't be afraid of this spell but right now he was barely able to move. A pity she didn't fall for his tricks.

"This Princess surely wasn't sure if this spell would work on you in its max power or not. But now that you are in a weakened state, even though the spell didn't take a full 10 minutes to form, it should still be able to kill you."

As she said this she raised the fireball above her head ready to through it at the Greenwood Spirit. The spirit wasn't a fool either, it had already started to make an escape strategy. Just when he was about to move, he felt a terrible pain from his other leg.

"AAAAAAH-", It screamed in agony.

It looked down at his feet to realize that Lin Fang had stabbed his sword into its uninjured foot. Dammit, it thought, why didn't he feel anything when this guy approached me to stab that sword. Now that both his feet were injured it was near impossible for him to move out of the way. He was also in too much pain to realize that the chains around Lin Fang's body weren't fading anymore, in fact, they were getting darker.

The moment the Greenwood Spirit kicked Lin Fang, his focus was completely shattered, that is why he had to start the process all over again. But when the Greenwood spirit had come to stab him to his death, he had nearly given up all hope of breaking these chains this time.

Flame Princess had appeared at just the right time saving him a lot of hardworking in future. Many years down the line, Lin Fang would look back and think about how much harder his life would have been if she hadn't saved him at this moment but these are things we will talk about later.

Right now, Lin Fang was feeling very ecstatic as he screamed in his mind, "Yes! That's it stall him"

He needed more time to break through. He needed her to buy as much time as possible. When he saw her spell, he was surprised as it looked too strong but he also noticed the problem. The chances of this attack hitting were very low. Even though every inch of his body was covered in pain, he still moved to help her. Since she was helping him right now, he would be the more benevolent one and forget about her past crimes, he grumbled in his heart, but he knew very well that even though they had just met, she was trustworthy and could be considered a friend. So, with as much focus as he could spare from breaking the chains, he dragged his body to the unfocused Spirit and stabbed its foot with his sword.

Listening to his scream Lin Fang laughed lightly, "Heh-Heh", as he let go of the sword to focus all his attention on the seal.

Even though trying to break these was painful it was no where near as painful as an awakening which he had just gone through. The problem was the sturdiness of the chains, no matter how hard he tried to use his 'will' and shatter these chains it wouldn't work. As for how he learned to use 'will', he didn't. It was more like he naturally knew the method to break the chains, he couldn't use 'will' for anything else but this.

As his tries continued, the chains seemed to stretch taking a lot of time to break. The pain kept on increasing and Lin Fang couldn't help but frown. Even though the chains were getting more real this clearly wasn't working he needed to think of a way to increase the speed.

It was at this moment that Flame Princess threw her Fireball. The Greenwood Spirit screamed as it tried to dodge the incoming attack but to no avail. The blast hit him head on and a huge explosion took place. Since Lin Fang was near the monster, he was also taken into the blast radius and was once again tossed into the air. Damn, that was painful, I really want to beat that princess up, she doesn't behave like a cute girl at all, too violent.

As he fell to the ground, he cursed the nine generations of Song Ming's family.

The moment the attack landed on The Greenwood Spirit, its already injured body received even more damage as a huge crater was formed on its location with smoke rising out of it. Flame Princess's face went completely pale the moment her attack left her hand as she fell to the ground weakly having used up too mana. She breathed heavily as she looked towards the crater, with a different from usual emotion on her face, it was satisfaction.

She realized, why she never had to change her expression before and why it fluctuated so many times in the last 2 hours. It was because the game was too real, before this she lived a sheltered life where everything was at her beck and call. Even the online games she played weren't able o affect her because they weren't real enough, but this world was different. It was too 'real' and it didn't have her families protecting umbrella thus making this whole world full of wonders for her. She even felt something she hadn't felt in quite a while, excitement.

Just as she was about to stand up and check on Lin Fang, the smoke in the crater stopped thinned as a hideous body greeted her. The Greenwood Spirit had lost a lot of its skin, parts of it were burning and due to the stabs and injuries during Lin Fangs battle, it now looked completely disgusting. Flame Princess had just sighed in relief that the battle was over when the monster slowly opened its eyes. He looked at her with a crazed expression. She was completely scared out of her wits due to that expression, never in her whole life had she seen someone looking at her like this. Her expression changed to total disbelief to find that the Greenwood spirit was still alive.

"I WILL KILL YOU", It screamed as it started moving towards her. It had lost both its legs during the explosion so it could only slowly crawl towards her. Flame Princess who wasn't scared in other games, not scared of the backstabbing and scary humans. unreal life, not scared of the original Greenwood Spirit. But now, she finally felt scared. Not because the Greenwood Spirit had gotten stronger but because she was too weak to fight back. She already used up all her materials and mana to fire that previous spell.

Right now she so weak that she couldn't even truss a chicken. Plus even in other games, the realism wasn't that much so she had never seen something so disgusting making her really afraid. She tried to crawl back but the spirit was crawling faster than her and soon, it would be upon her.

She who had lived a sheltered strict life had rarely even seen a drop of blood. It was already more than what she could handle fighting The Greenwood spirit in its previous condition.

But it was too much now, its condition was so terrible that Song Ming felt like vomiting after seeing it. She also couldn't fight back and her life was now in the hands of the Greenwood Spirit.

This feeling is so familiar she thought, it just like my real life. Where I don't have a say over my life.

She felt bitterness in her heart as The Greenwood Spirit jumped upon her.
