55 Leaving The Game

It took Lin Fang an hour to arrive near the borders of the city. From his location, he could clearly see the massive Ice King and the burning Ruth Wakado facing each other. One was sitting while the other one was standing. Ruth Wakado was quite a bit smaller in size than the Ice King, thus their heights were similar right now even though one was standing while the other sat cross-legged. It also had to be mentioned that Lin Fang couldn't see the legs of Ruth Wakado, everything in the surroundings below his waist was covered in burning red fire.

Looking at the two of them like this, Lin Fang felt his blood boil. One day, he would have strength like that even though it might only be in the game world, one day. After thinking about the level the two had reached for a while, he sat down to calm his emotions as he tried to enter his best state for battle. Since there were still roughly two hours before the battle began, he decided to rest for a bit.

After sitting there for over half an hour, Lin Fang suddenly opened his eyes as he looked behind him in shock. He quickly pressed his ear against the ground before confirming his suspicion, it was so faint before that he thought it was a misconception of his but now he was sure, the earth was shaking. He looked back as he grew excited once again, the demon hoard has arrived.

First small dots appeared in the sky which grew bigger, as the flying demons got closer, Lin Fang realized them as the minions from the underworld, even though they had a small health bar, their large numbers made sure that they were a massive threat. The minions flew till the borders of the city before forming a nest-like structure waiting for the three hours to get over.

Closely following behind these minions were a large variety of flying type creatures like Griffins and a flock of Fenghuang's. Lin Fang could even swear that he noticed a Gargoyle in the midst of all of these flying creatures.

After these flying creatures came the demons who walked on earth. The first to arrive in this group was a pack of bloodthirsty wolves, they had red eyes and snow white fur which was easy to spot from a distance. Behind them were other creatures like a massive bloodhound a cyclops and even a giant.

Followed by the arrival of so many demons, it was inevitable that the amount of space in the area was limited. Thus, some of the weaker creatures began moving away as they surrounded the city wall. Thus began the first massacre, all the players and NPC's outside the city who were in hiding or trying to get through the closed door of the city gates were horrified to find the massive amount of monsters coming towards them. Their screams grew frantic as they howled for the city guards to let them in, a pity no one heard their plea as the demons attacked them.

The screams of these unlucky people rang through the air as more and more of them were slaughtered. Some of them tried to fight back only to be killed while most didn't even try. These people realized that the demons were too many for them to stand even a percent chance of survival, they had also given up hope that the city guards would rescue them. This was the cruelty of war.

'AAAH! NO! SAVE ME! NO..."

"DON'T, DO-DON'T COME ANY CLOSER..."

"PLEASE LET US ENTER, PLEASE, WE ARE CITIZENS OF THE CITY, OPEN THE GATE"

Screams like these abound on all four gates of the city but only the walls of the city heard them, it was as if the city itself was watching these people die coldly, without any emotions, this was what the closed city gates made them feel.

Lin Fang who sat quite a distance away from all this didn't hear these people scream. He was busy checking out the various demons that had arrived for the raid. Most of the demons which came earlier were mere subordinates or followers of stronger demons, now that most of these followers had arrived, the real bosses started to appear.

The Garuda, a Fire Horse, Lin Fang even noticed a creature with earthen colored scales walking with his claws behind his back which looked suspiciously similar like a dragon except it didn't have any wings. All the creatures that were arriving right now were atleast level 5 and above, they were only a small handful, not more than three or four which was to be expected since this was a so-called backwater place.

As the three-hour deadline grew closer, the number of monsters arriving dwindled but the already present monsters grew more frantic. Lin Fang was an enigma in the middle of these creatures because most of the demons stood in groups of their own kind and only the bosses stood alone. Lin Fang was one of the few demons who even though was under level 5 was standing alone because there was no one he knew. It was understandable that demons were intellectual beings just like humans so they had their own social circles, this was why most demons interacted with their own kind and not messed around with others.

Lin Fang didn't care about all this as he judged the various bosses with his eyes. He should be able to handle the bosses which were at or lower than level 6 but nothing more. Demons were inherently stronger than humans thus, this allowed a single demon to fight many humans of a similar level as him without falling on the losing side. Of course, this depended on the type of bloodline a demon had. Their were some bloodlines who made even partial demigods tremble in fear while some were so weak that it was easier to kill them than trussing a chicken.

Five minutes before the raid began Lin Fang received a call, looking at the number, Lin Fang sighed in relief. It was Heavenly Dagger, the guy seemed to have finally let go of his anger and was ready to talk to Lin Fang at least.

"Heavenly Dagger where are you?", Lin Fang asked the moment he picked up.

"In the city.", A short reply came from the other end, Heavenly Dagger still sounded a bit cold and distant. Listening to the coldness in his voice, Lin Fang couldn't help but frown. Has he still not calmed down? He thought. Lin Fang even felt that he heard a bit sadness in his voice.

"Tell me where you are specifically, I think we should be able to make a major profit out of this situation if we work together." , Their was a short silence after Lin Fang said this.

"I won't be participating in the City Battle.", Heavenly Dagger's reply surprise Lin Fang. This was a great chance to improve his level and skill, how could he not use this.

"Why, did something happen? ", Lin Fang asked. He was sure that no player would miss something like the first City Battle until something really unavoidable came up. Could something have happened in real life to Heavenly Dagger?

"Nothing happened. In fact, I called to tell you that I am quitting the game.", Heavenly Dagger's words were another major shock for Lin Fang. Lin Fang felt as if he had lost something very important when he heard Heavenly Dagger's cold and distant tone. He realized that Heavenly Dagger wanted to break all contact with him.

After not hearing a word from the other side for a minute or so, Heavenly Dagger sighed. He wished he could help Fallen Angel out but the two had separate paths to walk, he knew about Lin Fang's clan from his blue eyes and knew how hard his future journey was going to be. Unfortunately, Heavenly Dagger's future wasn't much brighter either. Besides, the place he was about to go, he wouldn't be able to appear in public for quite a while so it was better to break all ties other than her. Thinking about her, Heavenly Dagger's felt an unbearable pain in his heart.

"Listen, its not your fault that I am leaving. I have some really important things to do and playing this game will not help me in any way thus I have decided to quit. Besides in one month..", Heavenly Dagger stopped when he realized that he was about to blurt some really sensitive information.

"Anyway, all you need to do right now is to read that book I told you and decide your future plan of action. Besides, who knows, we might meet each other again someday in the real world.", Heavenly Dagger said as he remembered this person who he had originally only interacted with for a day or so but still became friends with him.

Lin Fang sighed as he shook his head after hearing Heavenly Dagger's words. It was his life and Lin Fang didn't have the right to tell him what was right and what was not. Thus, Lin Fang didn't try to stop him as he asked, "You are sure."

"Hmm", a reply came from the other side.

"I guess its goodbye then.", Lin Fang said. The emptiness in his heart seemed to grow a bit.

"For now.", Heavenly Dagger's voice came from the other side. Before Lin Fang could say anything Heavenly Dagger said, "Goodbye" and cut the line. Lin Fang looked at the blank screen for a while before laughing bitterly to himself, making friends wasn't easy, Heavenly Dagger was a good friend and yet, he had to go. Maybe if we truly meet again, I will ask him for his true name. Though the two had met for a little while only, they had formed a deep bond with each other, a bond of friendship, one which the two would remember for many years until they meet again. But that is a story for a later date, right now, Lin Fang didn't have much time to think about what happened with Heavenly Dagger as the timer of the demon raid hit zero five seconds after the call ended.

The Demon Raid had begun.

Lin Fang would surely meet Heavenly Dagger in the future but this wouldn't be for a long time. But when the two meet, they would both be surprised to find how much the other had changed.

Right now, as Heavenly Dagger logged out of the game, Lin Fang charged towards the city with the Greenwood Spirit on his shoulder under the earth-shattering roars of thousands of demons.
