41 Friend or Foe?

To save time, Lin Fang had been jumping over the roofs of the city buildings and running diagonally towards his next destination which was the Southern Academy. He had to find out for sure if the Stone inside the academy was real or not before deciding his next plan of action.

He had already called the City Lord to meet at the outskirts of the City tonight. He should be able to trade for the item without worry if his identity as a demon was not released. But the problem was that if the value of the Stone was too high, then they might take up violence to get the token ignoring the trade.

This would surely be fatal and Lin Fang wasn't one to leave things to fate. Thus, instead of depending on luck, Lin Fang decided to depend on something more tangible, calculation and planning.

He had only reached the half-way point when he had an intense premonition of danger. He jumped leftwards to dodge the incoming attack but he wasn't fast enough so he could only raise his hands to block. It wasn't that the enemy was faster than him, he had chosen to attack at the perfect moment and Lin Fang hadn't felt anything until the last moment when it was too late to dodge.

Lin Fang was pushed back a few feet by the kick of his enemy as the marker appeared on his head announcing his demon identity. But Lin Fang had a calm expression on his face as he looked at the enemy, through the exchange just now, he knew that the enemy wasn't stronger than him, he just had a better timing.

"It is you.", the moment Lin Fang took a fighting stance by pulling out his daggers, the other party screamed happily as if they had found there long lost treasure. He jumped happily and even did a victory dance.

Lin Fang was dumbfounded by this persons' behaviour. He took another careful glance at this guy. He was a bit smaller than Lin Fang in height and his face which had a wide smile on his face was above average but nothing too special, his age too seemed similar to Lin Fang. What surprised Lin Fang was his cheerfulness which was not usually seen in a boy of this age.

After a few seconds, the person seemed to realize that he was making a scene as he stopped abruptly and coughed with an embarrassed expression on his face. His face turned a bit serious as he walked up to Lin Fang and raised his hand saying," Hello, the names Heavenly Dagger, care for a bite."

A little while later in a restaurant...

Two men sat across each other and were looking intently at the person across them. One of them had a confused expression on his face while the other one was a bit dazed.

If Lin Fang had felt even a bit of ill intent from the other person, he would have cut him down immediately but the other guy didn't seem to have any intent at all. He was like a child who was distracted by anything and everything but right now his focus was one man, Lin Fang.

He had been looking at him for over a minute without a change in the expression and Lin Fang was starting to feel uncomfortable.

"What do you want with me and how did you find me?", Lin Fang asked, he had been the most curious about these two things. First, how did he locate him, it wasn't like he knew that he was about to run over roofs and this guy suddenly caught sight of him.

The next thing that confused him was his aim. A normal player would try to locate him for the experience he gave on his death but this guy seemed to be looking for him for another purpose, and how did he even know his location? The only reason Lin Fang was even willing to have a chat with this guys was that he wanted to find the answer to these three question. Otherwise, he had a lot of stuff on his hand like preparing the escape plan for the meeting with the City Lord.

He didn't care if this guy released his identity. He had already gained enlightenment during his mission with Flame Princess that this was only a game and he should enjoy it like he originally planned to, his revenge could wait until he gained strength in the real world through his new gained abilities. Winning or losing in the game wouldn't affect the outcome of the real world that much.

"Oh! about that, I need your help with something.", he said with an embarrassed expression on his face as he rubbed his head like a silly child who had done wrong.

"What is it?", Lin Fang was getting impatient with this guy.

Heavenly Dagger's embarrassed expression turned serious after hearing Lin Fang's question. His reaction surprised Lin Fang as he could felt the change in temperament, he changed his initial judgement of him after seeing this.

"I want you to get the stone to the ice statue."

His answer surprised Lin Fang, how did he know about this quest? Lin Fang quickly looked around vigilantly to see if anyone was eavesdropping. After making sure that no one was around, he asked Heavenly Dagger in a quiet voice, "How do you know about this?"

Even though Lin Fang was asking a question, his tone made it sound like his only option was to answer the question, otherwise, only one end awaited him, no matter how what his temperament was, it didn't give him strength.

Heavenly Dagger didn't say anything but waved his hand and a quest menu popped up. He sent it towards Lin Fang.

Lin Fang was surprised as he looked at this guys quest. He didn't know anything about the elemental race but Heavenly Dagger was still clearly a human right now and a change in class would surely make him an enemy of the Human Faction. This explained why he was looking to help Lin Fang.

"As for how I found you, it wasn't easy, I have been camping outside the City Lord's Castle for like forever in hope that you would surely come here to look for the Ice Stone. I chased and attacked every single guy who even showed a hint of suspicious behaviour until I finally found you. Do you know how hard it was? The NPC who gave this quest only told me that I could find you in this city" He said as he rubbed off his fake tears.

Lin Fang looked at his silly expression and realized that he had lost this guy again. Wasn't his attention span a bit too low, he thought as his lips twitched?

But contrary to his previous plan, this new variable improved things by a major margin, the fact that he had shown his quest as a show of good faith already proved his trustworthiness even if Lin Fang didn't have complete faith in him.

"Alright get serious, I will explain the plan I created to steal the stone and what progress has happened until now..", Lin Fang told him the plan in a quiet voice, of course, he still didn't completely trust him so the plan told had some vital information missing. He would be a fool to trust someone he just met completely.
