7 First Mission

"The third match is over. Jimmy Green has passed the exam and will be promoted to rank-D!" Selia announced.

Alton laid there in shock, not believing that he could lose so fast to a level 1.

Jimmy, however, was smiling to himself, enjoying the feeling of actually winning for once. He had gotten so used to being beaten to a pulp at the dojo he forgot he was quite good at combat.

Jimmy walked off the stage and had his guild card updated to D-rank by Selia.

"Nice job rookie, watching you stomp that arrogant dumbass was a treat. If you ever become a B-rank adventurer then come find me, I'd love to go on a mission with someone like you." Selia said.

Jimmy nodded his head and said, "Thank you, I'll keep your offer in mind when I become a B-rank."

He had a good impression of Selia and quite liked her bright atmosphere. To him, it seemed like she would be a pleasant person to go on a mission with.

"Quite the confidence eh? I'll keep you to that statement." She said as she exited the room.

Jimmy didn't bother looking at the shellshocked warrior still contemplating life in the arena. Instead, he exited the room and headed back to the front of the adventurer guild.

Located on the left side of the guild's main hall was a giant board filled with missions. The missions were separated by the ranks required to take them and then pinned to the board.

Jimmy looked over the D-rank section until he found a mission that suited his needs. He plucked the mission paper off the board and entered the mission application line.

Due to most people signing up for quests early in the morning, the line was relatively short and he only needed to wait 5 minutes before he reached the front of the line.

The adventurers guild mostly hired attractive women who can influence the rowdy adventurers into behaving. Similarly, running the counter, the receptionist was a curvy woman with her hair tied up in a bun. With the modest adventure's guild uniform she gave off an attractive businesswoman vibe.

Jimmy handed the receptionist the mission paper and his guild card.

"Hunting iron-tusked boars? You don't look like an experienced adventurer, do you know where to find them?" She asked in doubt.

Jimmy scratched his head in embarrassment and said, "Your right, I am a new adventurer. I was just about to ask you if you knew where to find them."

She was used to dealing with rookies so she tactfully avoided teasing him and said, "You can find them in the forest to the east of the city. You shouldn't have much trouble finding them there. Make sure to bring back their tusks."

"Thanks for the help. I'll make sure to bring back their tusks." He said with a wave as he walked away.

'D-rank missions sure are a good source of levels. I suppose players at my level generally wouldn't be capable of doing them.' He thought to himself.

He made his way through the city and after half an hour he reached the east gate.

A bald middle-aged soldier was checking the identification of people leaving the city. He was wearing a full set of metal armor, with a sword strapped to his side.

The man took Jimmy's guild card and looked him up and down.

Patting Jimmy on the shoulder he said, "You remind me a lot like my son, he is an adventurer about your age. make sure to stay safe out there."

"Thank you, sir, I will try to stay safe."

The man laughed and said, "Call me Dale, no need with the 'sir' business! Have a good day!"

Jimmy nodded his head and made a mental note to remember Dale's name. He seemed like an amiable old man.

He headed into the forest and began his search for the boars.

He had never left the town before, nor had he ever hunted. With no real plan in mind, he just wandered through the forest while keeping in mind the direction he came from.

He came across numerous small critters but had little luck in finding the boars.

After an hour of searching, he stumbled upon a large grassy clearing where he spotted 4 iron-tusked boars grazing.

He quickly hid behind a tree just outside the clearing so he wouldn't alert them.

Peaking out from the tree he took a look at their status. Two of the boars were level 14 and the other two were level 15.

Killing four boars at once would prove difficult when all four were of a much higher level than him. Luckily they were animals, and he had the advantage of intelligence.

In the distance, a party of three players, who were D-rank adventurers, headed back from a mission and happened to spot Jimmy preparing to fight the boars.

A young swordsman said, "What is he doing? He looks no more experienced than us, does he really plan to fight 4 iron-tusked boars by himself?"

Meanwhile, Jimmy began setting his plan in motion and threw a rock at one of the boars. He hit one of the level 15 boars on the head, not doing any damage but alerting the boars to his presence while pissing them off.

Jimmy turned around and started shaking his butt while saying, "Come get me you shitty boars, I bet your tusks are as soft as feathers!"

As if the boars understood what he was saying they immediately charged straight at Jimmy, looking extremely pissed off.

All three of the adventurers were gobsmacked by what they saw. They thought he was screwed, but they greatly admired his balls.

Not aware of the spectators, Jimmy stood next to a tree and kept his spear ready.

When the first boar reached him, the boar that he hit in the head with a rock, he swiftly dodged out of the way of the boar's charge and stabbed a clean hit into the boar's leg.

Between the wound on its leg and its momentum, the boar was sent crashing to the ground.

Jimmy weaved around the tree, using it as a shield to prevent the boars from charging him as he put more and more wounds on the boars.

While the boars were way higher level than him, they have very poor maneuverability, allowing him to essentially kite around them using the tree.

The boars were very hot-headed and only got angrier as more wounds piled onto them.

After leaving numerous wounds in all the boars, they started to get sluggish and Jimmy stabbed one of the level 14s in the neck, killing it.

With fewer boars to deal with, he swiftly finished off the remaining three, them not putting up much of a fight.

[You have leveled up!]

[You have leveled up!]

[You have leveled up!]

Killing the much higher-level boars gave him considerable XP, launching him up straight to level 7.

At this point, the three adventurers were very impressed. Even they would find fighting four boars at once troublesome, and he did it by himself!

One of the three adventurers was a ranger and suddenly felt something wrong while her companions were distracted. She quickly spotted the disturbance.

"DODGE!" She yelled out toward Jimmy.

Sensing the ground trembling slightly, Jimmy took the advice and dove to the side as fast as he could.

A giant iron-tusked boar barreled past, narrowly missing him. If he didn't roll out of the way in time he would have been skewered.

Jimmy picked himself up and quickly looked at the boar with shock, it was level 25!

As fast as he could, he opened his status menu and put half of his free points in agility, and the other half in magic. If he was going to kill the boar he needed to be fast and capable of hitting hard.

He looked over at the adventurers who were debating helping him and shouted, "I got this!"

The three adventurers were hesitant, but they decided to wait and watch what happens.

The giant boar was more than just bigger, it was also much more intelligent than the normal iron-tusked boars. It was carefully watching Jimmy, waiting for the right time to strike instead of wildly charging.

Jimmy had no practice using mana practically due to his previous minuscule mana pool, but he had spent a lot of effort training his mana control. He decided to test out mana body enhancement on this boar.

Jimmy ran at the boar with the same speed as before he upgraded his agility, fooling the boar into becoming overconfident.

Deciding it could easily crush its opponent, the boar charged at the approaching Jimmy.

Right before impact, Jimmy used his full speed to sidestep the boar and stab it in the leg. The stab barely even made a mark, showing how much tougher its hide is compared to normal.

The boar was annoyed by missing, but it still felt confident due to the lack of damage Jimmy was doing. It circled back and charged at Jimmy again.

Mana circulated through Jimmy's body, ready to burst out at any moment.

Jimmy crouched and flooded mana into his legs. The moment he was about to get hit he jumped with his maximum power, skidding just above the boar's head.

He charged as much mana as he could around his spear and arms and did a super-powered thrust straight into the boar's cranium.

The boar died before it could process what was happening and crashed to the ground.

Jimmy stood on top, anchored to the fallen boar by his spear.

"That was fun," Jimmy said as he gave a thumbs up to the adventurers.
