4 First Blood

We waste no time and walk straight to the top of the wall. Our only task is to position behind Sergeant Rina and provide her with assistance but still, all of us are afraid.

"Cadets, prepare your hearts for what you are about to witness and listen to whatever I say" I felt like her eyes looked at number 1 when she was warning us.

I check the pistol in my hand and try to calm down the shaking but it was useless. Ever since I was born this is the first time I ever held firearms. Deep in my heart, there is still this naive self of mine hoping that I wouldn't have to use it.

We move slowly but surely, everyone is on high alert.

But before we can even reach our destination something unexpected happens.

"Dodge!!!!!!!!!" The frantic voice of Sergeant Rina rang through my head but It was already too late.

I never expected that giant green looking boulders would fall from the sky like a meteor.

Everything happened so fast that I didn't even have the time to react.

"Splat!" blood splashes all over my body. I hurriedly wiped the blood out of my eyes to see what just happened when I saw the flattened body of No. 3.

"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" I scream at the top of my lungs as I stared blankly ahead. My heart's beating like a drum.

Standing atop of No.3 flattened corpse is a green monster with a size twice as big as a human. Its whole body is covered with huge muscles and has two thick arms that radiate power. It has two big fangs underneath its jaws looking like an elephant tusk. It wears thick armor that only covers its vitals and has a helmet that resembles the Vikings of old. In his hand is an enormous ax the size of an adult man.

There is no doubt in my mind that this monster-like being is the orc Sergeant Rina is talking about.

The orc ignores my wails of cry and wastes no time as it aims its enormous ax at me. I ordered my body to move but It was no use. I was frozen in fear.

The ax quickly descended and I had no choice but to resign to my faith. I prayed to God and to anyone who would listen to at least keep my brothers safe.

As I closed my eyes waiting for my death I felt a sudden push in my back. That bit of force pushed me away on the ax path and saved my life. I open my eyes and look back to thank my savior when I saw No. 5 cleave body.

I'm not that stupid. I realize right away that he sacrifices himself for me.

Me, someone he doesn't even know.

Right at that moment something inside of me snapped.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Damn It! Die! Die! Die!" I keep shooting at the orc desperately hoping for it to die.

But despite my all-out attack, it just ignores it and looks at me with contempt. It then turned its attention to No.5 corpse and as if it was taunting me it started stamping No. 5 head squishing it like a watermelon.

Seeing all this my mind blackout. I started to only see the orc in front of me. The deafening sound of the battlefield turned quiet and only the orc taunting grunts filled my ear.

"You fucking bastard! die!" I fire my pistol at it continuously, my finger started to bleed but I never stop firing.

Bullet after bullets hit the orc but despite my frantic assault, it remained unharmed.

Bored, the orc once again raises its ax, ready to finish me off but unlike before I did not just stand around. The rage that fills my heart is strong enough to overcome the fear I feel.

With all of my strength, I tackle the orc hoping to bring it down.

The impact of our collision brought me to the ground but the orc didn't even move an inch.

It sneered at me as it looked down.

"Fuck you!" aiming my pistol between the orcs' legs I unleashed another barrage of fire.

"Ahhhhh!" The orcs didn't expect that I could harm it.

It screams in pain as it stomps its foot trying to smash my head.

I quickly roll to the ground dodging its assault.

Seeing the orc finally experiencing pain I can help but laugh frantically "Hahahahaha you like that, you like that you piece of shit"

The orc looked at me angrily and stretched its hand grabbing me through the head due to laughing stupidly I wasn't able to evade.

The orc raised me to the ground and looked me directly in the eye.

Its eyes are flaming with rage.

I ignore it and raise my pistol aiming at the orcs head but before I can pull the trigger the orc slams me to the ground.

"Thud!" I cough a mouthful of blood and several of my ribs broke but I ignored the pain. With all my strength I lift my hand carrying my pistol.

"Bang! Bang!"

I already knew that I was going to die but I don't care. I just want this bastard to die.

The orc slashes its ax at me again but this time I knew there was no saving me.

When the orc ax was about to reach my head, a similar-looking ax descended severing the orc's head instead.

"Damn it No.4, move!" Sergeant Rina said, standing behind the orc headless body.

I ignore her by this point I don't care what the f*ck others have to say. Carrying my almost lifeless body I continue firing my gun at the dead orc.

"Die!die!die!die!" I said hysterically. I was so consumed by anger and fear that I completely lost myself.

With tears flowing through my face I kneel to the ground.

"Pack!"

Amidst my crying, I suddenly felt a great pain in my left cheek

"Don't waste the life of No. 5" Sergeant Rina said before quickly jumping at the top of the wall like some kind of superhero.

She didn't reprimand me nor punish me for my stupid action and quickly returns to battle.

Her slap and words woke me up and I slowly came to my senses.

I climbed to the top of the wall using my half-dead body wanting to join the battle.

As I walked I saw the bodies of No. 6,7,8,9 like No.3 and No. 5 they all died a gruesome death.

It was funny that we all promised to come home alive but half of us already died before we could even reach our destination.

Using all the courage I can muster I step at the top of the wall.

Not even a second pass my body already wishes to turn tail and run. If only I knew earlier that this is what's waiting for me I would have jumped straight to the orc ax and die.

Beyond the wall is a sea of thousands upon thousands of the same monstrous orc laying siege. Hundreds of the same giant green boulders flying to the sky every second. Thousand upon thousands of soldiers dying by the minute painting the wall with blood. Mountain of corpses lying around filled with faces of fear, sorrow, anger, and despair

I couldn't hold myself anymore. My stomach turns upside down and I vomit uncontrollably. I can't believe that a place like this exists.

There's only one word to paint the view I was seeing.

'Hell'
