2 Chapter 2

After he read the Box two more times he awoke from his stupor. He quickly ran outside his room into his sisters room and woke her from her sleep.

"Lana wake up" he hurriedly told her as he shook her.

"Let me sleep for a bit more" she murmured as she rubbed her Eyes. After Luca told her again she slowly open her eyes.

"What is this?" she asked as her eyes grew large and she started to cry.

"So you can see it too, huh?" he whispered as he took her tiny frame in his arms.

'First the virus, then our parents dying and now this. Why does she have to go through all this?' he thought as he looked at his little Sister.

Lana was only 8 years old. She just turned 6 when the virus first appeared. She didn't understand much then and it didn't influence her much, but after their parents died due to the virus she became quieter and reserved. She only trusted and talked to her brother.

As he holds her he suddenly heard gunshots and screams outside.

He let go of Lana and went to her window. From the window you a perfect view of the Convenience store across the street. What he saw made him tremble.

'My god, what are they doing?' He thought as he saw four thugs getting corned by 20 or more people.

'No, they aren't people anymore.' he looked on in shock as he saw the thugs getting thrown to the ground.

He continued watching for a few more minutes when suddenly the mob dispersed and the 4 Thugs started to rise again. The problem was they were dead. One of the thugs was missing an arm, one didn't have a face anymore and all of them had bite marks all over their bodies.

'They're like Zombie's.' he concluded as he quickly and quietly closes the curtain.

He suddenly remembered all the books he read before and thought what he needed to do.

"Lana, there are very bad people now, so we need to be quiet now," he told her as he crouched in front of her. Lana nodded as stopped crying.

He knew what had to be done. They had to leave the City as fast as possible. The Apocalypse just started, so now was the best chance to leave the City before it was overrun by Zombies.

"Go grab your bag and put in enough clothes for a few days," he told her as he ran inside his room and did the same. He grabbed his hiking bag and put in the hiking clothes he often used before the Virus. He also grabbed his survival knife and one gun with 3 mags. After he put on one set of clothes he went into the kitchen and grabbed the few cans of food and 4 Bottles of water and packed them in his bag.

Just as he put them in Lana walked out fully dressed in a pair of jeans and a "Hello Kitty" sweater.

"Lana, we have to leave the city as it is very dangerous now and it will only get worse. You have to be very quiet and do as you're told, ok?" he told her carefully, and she nodded.

He told her to follow him and stay closed as they left their apartment.

They lived in an apartment complex on the outskirt of the City.

His plan was to first leave the city and travel through the forest. Then they would need to find a Vehicle and travel until they reached their grandparent's farm which was about 10 days Car ride away. It would be safe there for the time being.

The Farm was in his Grandfathers Family since Generation. Over the Generations, they had expanded and are now fully self-sustaining. It was a 1000 hectare property with no other living person in a 30 km Radius.

After going down the stairs and exiting the back door of the building they suddenly heard a low growl as they were about to go round a corner. He motioned to Lana to be quiet and stay put. He took out his knife and slowly peeked around the corner.

He saw their first floor Neighbor Gary slowly advancing on him.

He readied himself and sprung into action. He stabbed the knife with all his might into the chest of Gary. It had no effect as Gary suddenly reached for Luca's neck with his long blood-smeared fingers.

'How stupid can I be? For what did I read all these Zombie books if I don't even remember the basic stuff.' he thought to himself stupidly as he pulled out his gun and shot Gary in the Head.

Garry crumbled to the ground as he died. Luca told Lana to come. When Luca saw how frightened Lana was when she saw the body he told her:

"Lana they are not living people anymore, they are Zombies. The only way to survive is to not get infected by them. They can only die if you destroy their brain. I'm sorry you have to see this but this will be our future from now on. We have to survive. We only have each other."

Lana's face slowly changed as she heard her big brother's words.

"Ok, we will protect each other," she told him with a half-smile.

'I'm sorry you have to grow up so fast and can't enjoy your childhood.' he thought as he looked sadly at his sister and nodded.

He was about to retrieve his knife from the zombie's chest when he noticed 3 icons in his on the right side of his vision. One of them was blinking when he thought about it a new box with text appeared before him.
