2 It's Finally Out! Tyranny!

Rowan lived with his family on the outskirts of the city with his family, and each weekday, he would take the train to Ruaport to attend his university classes.

Currently, he was majoring in economics, scoring fairly well in the subject. If he failed to secure a spot in the closed beta of Tyranny, at least he would have a stable field to fall back on.

Boarding the train, one can see the walls plastered with screens displaying ads for up and coming games, at this point, video gaming/esports had practically become one of, if not, the world's leading entertainment.

People began to lose interest in other activities like sports and such, all in all, they failed to reach out to younger audiences and eventually fell out of popularity.

While sports and other forms of entertainment weren't completely obsolete, they were a far cry from the great giants that they had once been.

Deciding to spend the time traveling doing something meaningful, he decided to do some last-minute cramming from his phone before the test.

-

Walking into campus, a bustling university life could be observed; from the campus beauties strolling around, to the more artistic people lounging around, university life here was quite idyllic.

Despite not being a top-tier school, Jefferson University possessed a relatively accomplished economics program with some of the most qualified faculty in the country.

Walking to his Economic-101 course for beginners, he stumbled upon the person who gave him the chance to apply for the closed beta, Edgar.

"Hey! What's up Rowan? You excited for that beta coming out yet?" exclaimed Edgar.

"Of course I am. Who do you take me for?" replied Rowan. "By the way man, even if I don't get in, thanks for helping me out".

"No problem, no problem. Remember, we already talked bout this before. You don't owe me anything" responded Edgar.

"Anyways there's no real point in talking bout the game. I mean it's not even out yet" said Rowan.

"Yea, yea. I get it, we gotta judge it based on the actual gameplay. Yada yada yada" Edgar replied sarcastically.

"Come on! You know it's true. Companies go around tooting their own horn and when the time comes to actually put out the product, well, you get things like Division: BioWarfare. I mean, that trailer was so deceptive though!" exclaimed Rowan.

"We get it man! Anyways, moving on from that subject, can you pass me the notes you took for the class? I wanna get a little more last-second cramming in" asked Edgar.

-

Entering class after passing his notes to Edgar, Mr. Johnson, the teacher, begins to take attendance, and his assistant, Ms. Jones passes out the test.

"Okay everyone, greetings, greetings. Take a seat, Mr. Peterson. Now Ms. Jones is going to be passing out the test, when you receive the booklet, do not, and I repeat. Do not open the test booklet. Once everyone has received their test booklet and answer sheet you may begin" droned on Mr. Johnson.

"Now are there any questions before we begin?" asked Mr. Johnson.

A silence rings through the air, everyone here had taken these kinds of tests a number of times in the past.

After receiving his paper, Rowan listens dutifully to the instructions, as well as the little motivational speech Mr. Johnson added.

After 5 or so minutes, the test finally begins.

Rowan is instructed to begin to write his thoughts on the Market Crash of 1987, about 20 years ago from now.

He proceeds to write a thorough short answer in regards to why the crash occurred exactly, (the surmounting investor panic) and continues forward to the next question.

The test continues like this and quickly the test is submitted in, Rowan rushing slightly towards the end to finish everything up.

After the test, everyone was dismissed and people rushed out of the classroom, eager to discuss their answers and see if they had gotten particular questions right or wrong.

Another one of Rowan's friends, Anthony, from the class asked him, "Hey Rowan! What did you get for question 10?"

"Question 10 in the multiple-choice or-", Rowan gets cut off.

"Why of course the multiple choice!" exclaims Anthony.

They continue discussing the test for a bit and after that, they part ways.

-

Classes honestly didn't take too much time up out of Rowan's day, most of the college workload that ate up his time was self-study to prepare for future classes in advance.

Returning home from university he booted up his pc and began to anxiously wait for closed beta to finally drop.

To announce the lucky people who successfully got in, they designed a specific part of their webpage that included a timer for when it would finally drop.

Of course, such an announcement was all over social media as well, and to celebrate the release of the closed beta, the developers had decided to release some teasers and information to get the people anticipated for Tyranny as a whole.

According to the information that had been posted, Tyranny would be an ambitious multi-player RPG that would feature an engaging backstory. As the players progress throughout the game, they would uncover the hidden lore and slowly unveil the overall story surrounding the game.

Of course, with such a multi-player RPG there would also be a player-driven economy, PvP combat, crafting systems, etc. Players would initially start the game off in their starter areas in which they would develop a sense for the game.

Furthermore, in this game, there would be an established guild system to enjoy the game with friends, or if you wanted to; you could join a pre-established NPC organization.

The land of Ortus is a vibrant land blessed by the light of the Gods.

Unfortunately, wherever there is light, there must shadow as well. The forces of Evil have long laid dormant, after the events of the Heavenly War, but now the pot has begun to stir.

A notification appears across Rowan's screen, and the timer begins counting down...
