Lilith: The Promise

(Lilith's POV):

"I was the one that murdered my parents." - Denzel

A shocking statement coming from Denzel. But why? Why would you do that?!

As the thoughts kept forming in my mind, I suddenly yelled at Denzel because I couldn't hold myself from what he did.

"They're your parents Denz! Why would you do that?!"

"What else am I supposed to do!? Let them leave me in this rotten place without money?!" - Denzel

"Calm down both of you! Denzel, can you explain in detail?" - Seymour

I rested my head on Denzel's lap as he sat back down calmly.

"My apologies for my faux pas, and yes, I murdered my parents." - Denzel

"I know that already but, what happened exactly?" - Seymour

"It's quite a bizarre story but, my parents were talking about going away to a different country. Planning to abandon everything and start over they say..." - Denzel

"Start over?" - Seymour

"I didn't get what they meant but it's either we leave this place along with Lilith who I didn't want to lose or they leave me in this place without anything to live for but to rely..." - Denzel

"I see, then why did you kill them?" - Seymour

"Well, I didn't particularly know what they meant so I tried to stop them from going away. I assumed that I was joining them so I tried to say things like never wanting to leave Lilith alone here." - Denzel

"Denzel..."

"That's somewhat understandable, check." - Seymour

While continuing to play chess, Seymour and Denzel discussed the situation very deeply to the point where I wouldn't understand some things.

"So apparently, you entered a state of insanity and went and damaged the house multiple times?" - Seymour

"The insides of the house that is... And then there is self harm involved." - Denzel

"I see, how about this then..." - Seymour

A revelation came from Seymour that somehow got me smiling but Denzel got suspicious.

"How about I sponsor your entire school life. But you'll become one of my members of my upcoming business?" - Seymour

"What kind of business?" - Denzel

Without hesitation, Denzel started asking for more answers.

"Well, for now I'm earning a huge amount of money to get an investment going for the future which is the real start of my business. I can ask my parents to include you under my wing as these two are also within the scholarship." - Seymour

"Well, I could say that I'm also receiving full scholarship from Seymour since I'm also strayed off from my parents." - Michael

"E-eh!? Is that for real?!"

I inadvertently yelled out in question to Michael's current life.

"Yeah, I also somewhat live alone without a problem due to Seymour's help." - Michael

"Where do you live right now?" - Denzel

"In an apartment nearby his place, they're also paying for the rent." - Michael

"What happened to you?" - Denzel

"I got disowned, I was rebelling like hell." - Michael

"Uwah... That's unexpected..." - Denzel

"Well, I have no regrets since they're also somewhat traitors." - Michael

"Really? Details?" - Denzel

"Long story, I'll tell you soon." - Michael

"I see..." - Denzel

Denzel entered deep thought and didn't respond to anything. He's trying to make sure that he doesn't get trapped down by Seymour who is still saying all these suddenly at their first meeting.

"Alright, I'll take it." - Denzel

"But... Soon enough I'll have you undergo human experimentation to fix some functions on your body. Is that alright?" - Seymour

"Human experimentation?"

I suddenly became speechless to what Seymour has in store for Denzel.

"To fix my body and make it healthy? What about the expenses?" - Denzel

"That's also covered." - Seymour

"I'll take it." - Denzel

"Denz?!"

"I'll be fine Lilith..." - Denzel

When Denzel said that, I gained complex feelings. Will he be okay? Or will he be in a worse situation?

Those two conflicting questions kept arising my worries on his well-being specially that Seymour had mentioned that there are complications in Denzel's body.

"Alright, come with me to school tomorrow, Lilith should join you so she could give you a nice tour." - Seymour

"School? But it's Sunday tomorrow right?"

"Yeah, I got my connections for some paper-works. He'll be entering as a transfer student starting on Monday onward." - Seymour

"School huh? It's been a while indeed." - Denzel

"Denz... Are you excited?"

"Yeah, I'd like to sit next to you guys and to be in your room." - Denzel

"It's a competitive class, is it fine for you?" - Seymour

"Yeah, I can do just fine even if I skipped for a few years." - Denzel

After some time, we simply talked about what lessons have been told which are still potential going to be seen in exams. I'm not sure yet but after snacking with the food and hanging around in Denzel's place as a group of eight people, it was pretty fun.

Everyone had already left the place so it was just me and Denzel staying at his place right now.

"Say..."

"Hmm?" - Denzel

Denzel pat my head while looking at the male and female group separating off.

"Can you promise me something?"

"Promise?" - Denzel

"Stay alive and happy..."

"Eh... Sure..." - Denzel

"Good, I'll try to take care of you the best way I can."

Denzel turned his view towards me while smiling.

"I'll rely on you soon." - Denzel

Those were the only words I heard from Denzel before I returned to my house.

As the new week starts, I finally got to see Denzel in a school uniform once again. We got out of our houses and he seems to have some accessories with him. He wears a necklace which seemingly has an emblem. The emblem looked like a formation of crystals that I have no idea about. That doesn't really matter though, he looks pretty cool!

I was driven by my parents to the school and Denzel was only walking without much care. The distance between our place and the school is not exactly a far one. Denzel has to walk a bit but there isn't much of a problem.

"Huh? Denzel's going to school again?" - Mother

"Yeah, he seems to be helped out by one of our classmates."

"Heh? That's interesting, I hope nothing bad is gonna happen there." - Mother

"Say, why do you want me to avoid Denzel so much?"

I finally gained the guts to ask that question once more.

"Ah, well... You see, it's not something to be ta-" - Mother

"Mom, please don't hide it."

"Just don't Lilith. Do you understand?" - Mother

"Yes, you're hiding something unnecessarily."

"Enough!" - Mother

"I get it! Denzel killed them!"

"L-Lilith, how did you..." - Mother

"I heard it straight from his mouth alright. There's no need to hide it anymore."

"You're siding with him huh? If you're gonna continue like that we'll leave this country." - Mother

"What do you mean?"

I heard what my mother mumbled and they're up to something again.

"Nothing, I'll probably talk about this with your father." - Mother

"Again, what do you mean?"

"Quit rebelling child." - Mother

I was instantly shunned without hesitation. When we arrived to school to drop me off, the last thing I saw was her showing a faked and obvious smile while dropping me off.

"Have fun on your day today." - Mother

I stayed silent and started moving into the school and stayed in the canteen as it was still early. I waited for Denzel as it was the agreed location. However, when I looked behind me, I saw my mother opening her phone to call someone. I simply kept that it in mind and thought that it was just my father.

After some time Denzel saw and sat on the chair in front of me.

"Hey, it's been a while since I last saw you in your uniform."

"Really? It looks like we're gathering lots of attention." - Denzel

"Well, it's pretty much because you look pretty neat with your stuff despite barely alive. Anyways, good morning Denz."

"Yeah, good morning to you too Lilith, when is the classes?" - Denzel

"Ah, let's wait here some more. Seymour will tell the teachers about you and your transfer and pick you up here."

"So we wait for him here huh?" - Denzel

While Denzel starts looking dejected with waiting for a bit more just to get Seymour in, Ashley had arrived and saw Denzel immediately.

"Ooh! Lookie here, Denzel's attending school again." - Ashley

"Ah, hello Ashley, I look forward to working with everyone again." - Denzel

"Yeah, it's gonna get busy soon so..." - Ashley

"Anyways, what's with your accessories Denz? Crystal bracelet and necklace?"

"Ah? These? These are mainly what's left to the box of treasures in my house or so, might as well wear it." - Denzel

"Ahahaha, really? You look like a fancy rich and handsome student now. You're gathering lots of attention." - Ashley

"Yeah, it's somewhat disturbing..." - Denzel

"Jeez, the girls are looking around here. Look, there's one that's about to come in here." - Ashley

"Eh? Who?"

I immediately held Denzel's hand on instinct which made him smile a bit.

"False alarm, it's Seymour. Hehe Lilith, you're quite a girl are you?" - Ashley

"Ah! Ashley!!"

After the exchange, we had talked things out with Seymour who arrived and picked up Denzel to bring him to the faculty room.

When he was introduced as a transfer student, various girls started questioning him on where he came from but there are some others asking about his parents which made his face a little grim.

After the day, I was walking home with Denzel while talking about his first day experience on his return to school. He showed exemplary behavior of high intellect comparable to Seymour's group. All my classmates were shocked or so.

When we arrived home, nothing much happened so we just waved at each other on the window before sleeping.

Our daily lives continued on normally until summer hit. I visited him a few times with the projects as an excuse but he's slowly turning back to a normal and happy person. But the summer was pretty much the main problem.

"Seymour?!"

"Ah, Lilith. I've been contacted by your parents to catch someone who's insane and in a paradox apparently." - Seymour

"N-no way, don't tell me?"

"Yeah, it's Denzel. He's already undergoing physical experiment but, he's also gonna get mental and emotional experiments starting this summer."

Denzel's life worsened again, because of my parents...
