1 Corrupt a Wish

Seated at a computer was a young male playing Age of Immortals, an old school wuxia style game. The game was not too popular due to it being seven years old and still on PC when other games were now being played in virtual reality. However, he could not afford a virtual reality headset so he stuck to his PC.

His fingers vigorously tapped his mechanical keyboard while his hand moved his mouse across the black pad.

"Gotcha!"

He shouted, as he knocked his opponent into a combo. There was no escaping, they were already at half HP and just used their escape. This match was as good as his.

[Victory!]

Smiling he leaned back in his chair.

Although the game was old, many of the players were just like him. Veterans who could not afford a virtual reality headset, or players too loyal to quit. Whatever it may be, the game still had a steady two thousand players on average.

"Want to go again?" TofuPancake typed to him inside the lobby.

"Maybe in a bit, i'm going to browse the forums."

"Alright. I heard there was a new forum event." TofuPancake replied.

"Really? Last one was nice, they gave away ten virtual reality headsets. I was not chosen though."

"Haha, me either. Maybe we'll have better luck this time." TofuPancake said.

"Brb."

He tabbed out of the game and opened up a browser. Quickly he typed in the domain for the forums and he easily spotted the event that TofuPancake was talking about.

His eyes looked down at the bottom of the screen, there were currently three hundred twenty six people browsing the forum.

"It's lower than yesterday…"

He said to himself before he clicked on the event section.

Everything was fairly simple, and he had nothing to lose. First he looked over everyone else's wishes to see what they wanted. Most were money, or some fantasy power but there were a lot asking for virtual reality headsets.

After he reached the seventh page the wishes were over.

[Grandpa'sGrandDaddy - Granted, but as soon as you touch the money it vanishes.I want to be sent back in time to ancient China.]

Thinking about it, there was a lot of history about ancient China. Tons of stories and a lot of novels.

He could still recall the story, 'A Step into the Past'. Almost a classic at least to him, but now chinese novels were full of hotblooded cultivation 'heroes'. It was easy to find one, but hard to keep reading.

The only one he finished was 'A Mortal's Revenge'. That was at least interesting and had a lot of conflicts that were not just brainless villains.

After he posted his reply, he left the forums and headed to his kitchen. Took him a few minutes as he waited for his cup noodles to finish cooking before he headed back to his computer chair.

When he returned, he went right back into the game.
