After lunch, Margaretta left to her home as planned. Alice walked towards the room after watching the carriage cross the main gate.

"Emma, I am planning to take a nap" she said to her maid who was following her.

"Yes, milady" her maid accepted her order obediently.

But she was unable to sleep. After lying on bed for nearly half an hour, she got up. She went to her reading table and opened a locked drawer. Inside it, there was a sheet of paper that she has written three years ago.

She looked at the first line she wrote.

Kendrick Keletish, crown prince of Keletish kingdom.

'Alice, you were never engaged to anyone.'

She remembered what her friend said that morning.

How is this possible?

As she dwelled in her thoughts, desperate for answers, she felt pain emerging in her head. It was not a so painful, not something like thousands of thrones stabbing her brain like she felt when she first arrived, but a light headache which she felt time to time.

Giving up, she slipped the paper back into desk and locked it. She then rang a bell, and a knock was heard a few minutes later. After Alice asked to come in, Emma emerged into the room.

"You aren't sleeping milady?" she inquired.

"No. Can you please bring my medicine?" Alice asked.

"Are having headache again?"

"Yes."

"Fine I will bring your medicine."

Emma disappeared from the room. She then appeared after a few minutes with a tray having two bowls. Alice drank the ugly bitter sirup in one bowl without any complaint and immediately ate the candies in the other.

In the world where tablets are not invented, syrup can only be expected. And they are good at making her headache disappear.

"Milady, were you thinking about Lady Palesnoyt? You look distracted ever since she departed" Emma asked suddenly.

"Ah. Yes. You know how she instantly changes the atmosphere" Alice tried to find an excuse.

"Yes. Lady Palesnoyt is a cheerful person."

"You are right. It seems you like her a lot" Alice asked looking at the sincere smile on Emma.

"I do. She always makes milady smile. How can I not?" Emma said.

"Well. That is true" Alice said.

As Alice got up from her reading table, her eyes fell on the locked desk that holds her secret. She then looked at Emma. Emma has served Alicia since both were kids, so she must have known about her engagement. But she cannot ask about her engagement suddenly. It will only arouse suspicion.

But thankfully, he is not the only one in question. And as per the situation the best choice should be…

"Emma, I always wonder if I have any friend like Maggie in capital. Why don't I get any letters from the capital? I mean I should at least have one friend who should remember me" Alice said, acting as if she is thinking.

Emma's face suddenly turned pale at her master's doubts. But she quickly hid her nervousness and smiled brightly.

"Milady had many friends in the capital but no one got as close to you as Lady Palesnoyt" Emma answered carefully.

"Are you saying were my only best friend in capital" Alice said innocently.

"Yes" Emma said with a confident smile.

"Hmm" Alice said and tilted her head.

"Milady, in capital you can only make friends after you enter the high society. Let me tell you high society is place, where hide their true shelves and speak through hidden motives. You can never trust them. In capital, you only had fake friends. Not someone who will remember you just because you got separated."

"I understand." Alice said with a smile, hiding her suspicion.

She then started to yawn.

"It seems my medicine is finally working. I am feeling sleeping" Alice said and dismissed Emma.

Emma left the room without any complaints.

As Alice lied on her bed, she remembered what Emma said.

'In capital, you only had fake friends.'
