"Did you pack everything?" Alice asked as she sat with her friend after breakfast in the parlor.

"Yep. I didn't bring much so there isn't nothing much to pack" Margaretta said.

"When you come to visit again at least plan to stay for a week. I didn't even feel like I spent time with you."

"Even me. Next time, you come to my house."

"Fine. After father's becomes healthy, I'll pay a visit."

As the both friends gave each other promises, not knowing whether they are able to fulfil them, they chatted happily.

"Do you know my aunt who lives in capital?" Margaretta chatted about whatever that came to her mind.

"The one you hate?" Alice asked.

"Yes. I told you she is now working as a nanny in a count's mansion."

"Yeah. Unlike your father, your aunt hated the life of countryside so she went to capital to earn money."

"Yes. Correct. It seems that the lady she served for had her engagement annulled."

"Why?"

"Because her fiancée fell in love with some other girl."

"Ah. That is sad."

"Well her fiancée is complete jerk. He always flirted with other ladies and has got quite a bad reputation."

"Why did she get engaged to that jerk?"

"It was a political marriage. He is a son of a Marquise."

"Oh… she would be happy that she got rid of that jerk."

"If she is a lady with common sense then she would. But it seems she is in love with him. She is literally torturing my aunt."

Suddenly a question crossed Alice's mind.

"Is it bad if your engagement is annulled?" she asked.

"No. there has been many incidents in the past where the marriage decided by parents gets broken. It is nothing bad if it is just an engagement but of it is a marriage, then it will be a different story."

"So you are saying that breaking engagement is common."

"It isn't common. Yeah… but you know… you can just get engaged to another guy later. There is nothing wrong in it. I mean… it is obvious that parents won't keep their daughter at home when she reached a marriage age. So after an year or so… they will search for another guy."

"Oh. I understand."

"But the annulment of engagement mostly happens if problems arises among both the families. You know… when they suddenly start to hate each other."

"Hmm…"

As Alice tilted her head another question popped.

"Is every noble lady engaged at young age?"

"Yeah. I mean mostly. I am still single because my father was originally a commoner."

As Alice heard, she suddenly remembered about Alicia's engagement. In the game, the villainess Alicia was engaged to the crown prince whom she loved madly. But he got attracted to the heroine and well, she met with her own bad endings due to her unrequited love in the crown prince's path.

"What about my engagement?" Alice muttered unconsciously.

It was weird. Ever since she came to this world, she never met him or any of the male leads. She thought it was because she came to the fief, but they should at least send a letter. Even though they hate her, she is still someone they know. It may because they really hate her.

As Alice was dwelling herself in her own thoughts, she did not notice the expression on her friend's face sitting in front of her. Margaretta's eyes widened in fear, and her beautiful face started to shiver. She gulped hard to control her shaking hands. She took a deep breath to stop her troubled mind, and slowly her usual smile appeared on her face.

"Alice, you were never engaged to anyone" she said slowly.

"What?" Alice looked up when her friend's words reached her ears.

Like honey flows slowly, the words slowly sink in Alice's mind.

"As you know, your parents are not someone to force political marriages on their daughter. They wanted you to find a good guy and fall in love with him. So, you were never engaged to anyone." Margaretta continued.

"Really?" Alice asked nervously.

"I heard that there were many rich sons who wanted to woo you but your heart never fluttered for anyone. You are really a girl with lot of requirements."

'My heart never fluttered for anyone?'

Alice questioned. In the game, Alicia was clearly engaged to the crown prince. So why? Why is Margaretta saying something completely different? This is not the plot of the game. No. But all the characters are same. Even how Alicia looks and her family background is identical. So why…?
