49 Easy to kill a villain

Contrary to the satisfaction of freedom that she had expected to feel, Purple's heart flooded with guilt as she watched Shera bring the wineglass towards her lips. Her heart raced wildly as her hands balled at her sides. It was as though a fog had cleared from her mind. What had she done?

How could she even agree to do this?

She thought back to how she had joined—how she had been abducted into La Rose Noire.

Purple was just going about her usual daily self-defense practice when she saw three men and a woman. They were all fully clad in black clothes, making Purple find them out of place. What kind of dressing code was that?  From the bold and intimidating way they were walking, were they bodyguards? But as soon as they were close enough for her to see them clearly, she was terrified.

These were not ordinary people. The tallest man of them all had a golden rose on the left shoulder of his jacket, with a letter N inside it. Wasn't that what people described as the crest of La Rose Noire? Were these people members of that organization?

That wasn't a problem but why were they walking towards her? As soon as they were in front of her, they didn't even ask for her opinion about anything. They merely asked each other if she was the one they wanted and after confirming her to be the one, they dragged her away against her will. Just like that. After getting tired of protesting, Purple resorted to her fate and let them lock her up in an overly spacious empty room. She crept into a corner, wondering what she had done that had caught the devil's attention. Was it because she had spoken ill of La Rose Noire when she overheard news about it?

Just when her mind was about to break down from all the anxiousness, tiredness and hunger, the door opened and in walked the devil—Shera Black.

She looked just as fierce as everyone described her. She wondered what else to do—fighting was definitely not a sane option. She couldn't even fight her lackeys. How could she fight the demoness herself?

"I don't want your life." Was the first thing Shera said.

"I'm not afraid of you." Purple said although she knew she was about to pee her pants. "What do you want from me?"

"I was idle, so I asked my people to kidnap you." Shera laughed eerily. "Of course, I will not have any interest in your life if you give me that." She pointed below Purple's neck.

Purple gripped the locket around her neck. "No way! I'm not giving it to you even if I have to die."

"Whatever. It's not pretty anyway." Shera scoffed.

'Then why did you ask for it?' Purple wondered by remained silent. Shera remained silent too, seeming to want to say something but not actually saying it in the end. After scrutinizing her for a while, Shera walked out of the room, asking the lackeys waiting outside to welcome Purple.

Just like that, Purple's life in La Rose Noire began. She underwent several tests that she was not even willing to take and once the demoness was satisfied, Purple became one of the low-ranking members.

That was right. Purple had not willingly become a member of La Rose Noire. She had been forced to join for a reason no one knew. Not even herself.

Purple trembled as the glass got closer to Shera's lips. If she were to be honest, she had never fully liked being in La Rose Noire. At first, she resented Shera and everyone in La Rose Noire.

But after meeting with Shera a few times, she thought the latter reminded her of someone important. It gave her the urge to get closer to her, and there was only one way to get close to the demoness who spared no one a glance.

However, after working so hard and becoming Shera's assistant and secretary, she had found out that Shera and that person were as different as heaven and earth. Not to mention, Shera had scolded her when she finally summoned the courage to state that she had initially found her similar to someone.

Can anyone imagine how disappointed she was? After her hope was ruthlessly shattered, all that was left was the obligation to fulfill her duty. She felt trapped in La Rose Noire even though she remained in the organization. If Shera died then she would be free…

But as she watched the glass reach a few millimeters away from Shera's lips, she couldn't watch it. "Master."

Shera raised her head to look at Purple for the first time. A force in Purple's heart reprimanded her. It was not similar to what one would feel if they committed murder. Not that she was familiar with it, but this was the strongest sense of guilt she had ever felt. She walked robotically to Shera and carefully pried the glass out of her hand.

Shera scanned Purple's eyes that were becoming misty.

"Master, I...I…" Purple stuttered.

Shera smirked evilly, looking at Purple and back at the wineglass. Her slender fingers traced the bottle of wine on the nightstand. "It's not that easy to kill a villain, Purple."
