(XVII) The President

Big bang zoomed through the sky, bursting out from cloud to cloud, leaving a streak of smoke in the sky.

Ruby, Muna, and Megan clutched tighter as the breeze bashed against their faces.

Ruby had a broad grin across his face as his gaze darted around as if he was having fun, but the same can't be said for the two women.

"Fuck! Can't this thing move a bit slower? " Megan exclaimed as she grabbed harder as if her life depended on it.

She glanced at Muna, who still had her usual bored look.

'Is she a robot?' Megan thought.

She fixed her gaze on the front again, but she shut it close again as they burst through another form of cloud.

"Big guy, can you go higher?" Ruby asked with anticipation in his glint.

Growl: (I can)

"Then, what are you waiting for?"

BOOOOOOOM

Big bang suddenly crunched his back, and the next moment, he bolted skyward, transcending Earth's atmosphere.

When they closed in on space, their skin abruptly lost color and their throat dried as they gasped for breath.

Ruby gave an order to Big Bang through the system.

Heading the command, Big Bang plunged from the sky.

Inside the cave...

A few minutes later, Ruby sat on a giant couch with Megan and Muna on both sides.

Megan seemed curious about the cave as she stared around.

'So this is his hideout, huh?'

Megan had known Ruby for some years now, but the latter was always secretive, so it wasn't strange for him to hide his base from her.

The trio looked exhausted after they escaped from the supes. However, Ruby had his focus on the system prompt in front of him.

[Total XP gained/3000]

He had almost forgotten that he gained XP from killing supes.

His mind didn't allow for that because he wouldn't be here if he was thinking about that during a fight.

'I expected the XP to be more than this,' Ruby thought, with a slight frown plastered on his face.

He had gained close to a thousand XP from Daze alone, so he was expecting his XP to be much higher. After all, he killed more than 50 supes.

[the supes host killed were very weak] 

came the mechanical voice of the system.

'Oh, so that's the reason. This means I need to fight stronger supes.'

The image of Karen Kayne glimmered in his eyes, but Ruby knew he wasn't ready yet to face that monster.

'Not yet, not yet.'

Megan gawked at Ruby, who still had his gaze fixed on the space in front of him. She opened her mouth to say something, but shut it back. After hesitating for a while, she finally spoke up.

"Hon, do you mind if I stay here for some time?"

Ruby came out of his muse and stared at Megan, who was fidgeting with her hands.

If someone told him this badass girl would react like this, he'd not believe it.

"Sure, Meg, you can stay as long as you want!" Ruby said, with a sinister glint in his eyes.

The next day...

The news of the captured members of the church of villains went viral the following day after the supes raided.

The name "Church of Villains" sent shivers down anyone's spine who heard about it.

simply because those guys wouldn't mind facing an entire country if they wanted to achieve their goal.

But mostly it was because the Church of Villains single-handedly wiped out a country in one day.

Ever since that incident, they have established themselves as one of the deadliest Villain organizations on the planet.

Even the Meta organization didn't mess with them like that.

However, they did yesterday.

Current location... The White House.

Several reporters from different news channels swarmed the entrance of the white house with their glittering video cameras and microphones.

This incident was a hot scoop for many, so the reporters wanted to hear what Mr. President would say.

Inside a vast, brightly lit-up oval room, a man of about 5'5 slouched on a black leather seat.

The man donned a custom-tailored black tuxedo with a navy blue tie. However, his stare was fixed on the several report sheets on his desk.

"I won't be competing in next year's election if things continue this way!" The man smacked the desk with his hands as he leaned back in his seat and puffed out warm air from his nostrils.

Knock knock

A soft thumping sound resonated in the office as the man sat upright and adjusted himself.

He cleared his throat and said in an authoritative voice, "Come in!"

A woman in corporate wear strode into the office with another mountain of files.

The man sighed at the sight and slouched back in his seat.

"Sir, these are the records concerning the church of the villain." The woman said in a soothing voice.

Somehow, that voice only made visible vapor surge out of the man's nostrils.

"Anna, I told you to get me reports about those phycos since I'll be needing them for my speech, but yeah, you are with a mountain of files. " The president bellowed in an irritated tone.

He was supposed to give a speech a few hours from now, but it seemed like he would postpone it.

"Sir, you're taking it the wrong way," The woman said as she snatched an iPad from her pocket and handed it to the president.

"These are the financial records you asked for this morning, remember?"

"oh, yeah, you're right. Well, my brain is a bit messy from all this. " The president had a resigned look as he fondled his eyebrows.

"Sir, I know this is stressful, but this is the only way," Anna said.

The president's eyes gleamed with confidence as he heard Anna's voice.

"Your right, Ann, this is the only way if not these superhumans would make the world end quicker than it is supposed to."

Anna exhibited a small grin when she saw the president's gloomy face vanish, replaced by a determined spirit.

He glanced at the tab, taped the screen, and started skimming through the records about the Church of Villains.

He made a bitter expression as his wrinkled fingers continued to scroll down.

"The annihilation of more than 1000 supes and 4000 civilians in the super academy."

The president's fingers abruptly ceased when he read that line. He glanced at Anna.

"These people are savages!" The president slapped his desk again.

To kill that many people made him feel a pang of pain for those families that had lost their relatives.

'Switch with me, you weakling!' A crazed voice that wasn't his pierced his brain.

'You shut up and stay down. I won't let you cause more harm!'

'We are one! You can't run away from me! muahahaha!'

The president clasped his ears tightly as blood started oozing out of his ears.

Anna flinched when she saw this sight and rushed to help the president, but he put out a stop sign with his hands.

"Leave!" His voice was muffled.

"Mr. President, are you OK?" Anna asked with furrowed brows and her heart thumping.

"I'm fine, just...just leave!" The president said, through clenched teeth, as the vein on his forehead bulged up and down.

It seemed like he was suppressing something.

"I can call for the medics!" Anna insisted, with a shivering voice.

"I SAID LEAVE!!!!"

The table cracked into two as the towering lump of files flared into the air and spider cracks appeared all over the glass windows.

"Yes, yes!!" Anna said as she bolted to the door and smashed it shut behind her.

The president started shaking his head like a deranged person. He slapped his head with both hands as the voice continued to torture him.

'You can't run away from who you are. We are one.'

The reporters outside the White House were now losing that first vigor they had when they first came this morning, but that vigor returned when the president came out.

Tall, hefty-looking men in black suites surrendered both sides as the president strode with a calm and collected demeanor.

Anna was behind him with a frightened gaze, as if something would happen.

President Mark Black halted his steps when he got to a raised elevated platform.

The flickering of cameras reverberated as the reporters shuffled through the crowds, taking shots of the president as he mounted the podium.

Mark Black stood at the podium and started his speech.

"My fellow citizens, Since the beginning of time, evil has always been secondary."

New York...

The ads billboard in Madison Square flickered and showed the image of the president.

All the TV channels flicked and showed president Mark Black.

At the cave...

Ruby, with a mug of coffee in his grasp, stared at the large screen in his cave, which showed the president.

He peeked at Megan. Megan averted her gaze to the side, avoiding the screen.

Brooklyn...

inside a dark, gloomy room, where a faint light was emitted from the box-shaped TV. A silhouette with red eyes glared at the TV while sipping a red liquid.

The president continued, "It was here before we came, and it will still be here after we leave this cruel world.

"We resigned our fates. We lost hope, the hope of ever living in a peaceful world. "

'You weakling! Switch with me!''

"Hope to see a smile on everyone's face. Every day we wore fake smiles on our faces, acting like we were OK, but the villains loomed over our heads.

"However, we have supes, who watch over us like guardian heroes, but despite that, the villains are still at large. He paused.

Everyone waited for what he would say next.
