54 New Lineage

Jason didn't bother choosing a specific legacy out of the book. Instead, he let the grimoire do the choosing. The whirlpool above them sucked in their aura and found the closest relevant inheritance. Then with a condensed drop of blood, the knowledge was placed inside their minds. The droplet strengthened their bloodline and connected it to Jason. This allowed them to replace the previously subpar lineage they had. It also granted Jason even greater control over them. They were now Vampires of his clan, the first of his line.

Michael, who had been silent the whole time, suddenly grunted out in pain as knowledge surged into his mind. As his mind drowned in the inheritance, lightning started to arc around him as his body convulsed. Red lightning blasted out of his body, reaching out for anything. Suddenly a blue wave of ice slammed into the arcs of lightning, neutralizing them. The blast had come from Ashley as frost started to form on her brows. Ice freezing the same water droplets around her, creating snow in the air. Their body was being remodelled by their respective elements and upgraded by the lineage change Jason had given them.

(Wow, three transformations in one-day that's gotta be a record. So she's ice and he's lightning.)

"How do you two feel right now?"

Jason was quite curious how much they had changed from gaining the inheritance from the grimoire. afterall he had nearly taken that route himself.

"Honestly? I feel kinda like shit right now."

Michael barely spat out his words from between his charred lips.

"On this rare occasion, I am gonna second my brother."

Ashley piped up from beside him as her body was frostbitten all over.

Thinking to himself for a second, Jason bit down on his thumb and walked over to Ashley. Blood flowed out from his thumb and dripped down into her mouth. After seeing that some colour was slowly returning to her cheeks, Jason walked over to Michael and fed him some blood as well. Jason's blood sent out another wave of repairing blood energy through their bodies and further enhanced their bloodline. Jason did not know how rare an action he had just done. High-level Vampires never shared their blood. It was simply too valuable. If they wanted to upgrade their bloodline and gain their superiors' blood, it would only be through murder for Vampires. While their blood's quality had yet to manifest into strength, the twins' potential was unimaginable.

"That's it for today I reach out to you guys when I need something. For now, get used to your new powers and keep a low profile."

Jason left his orders and disappeared with a flourish as he leapt off the roof.

As they watched Jason disappear into the night, the pair of siblings looked at each other with a wry smile.

"Well, I think we just got ourselves a Lord to follow."

Michael was eager to follow Jason if that meant becoming stronger and gaining power for himself instead of being on the run and bowing their heads to every half-wit with a bit of authority.

"And twice tonight, I find myself agreeing with you extraordinary times we live in."

While Ashley was joking around, there was a glint of determination in her eyes as well.

Just like her brother, she could see the enormous opportunity before her. Actually, she saw more than her brother. She also saw the hidden dangers of such an opportunity. While so far, Jason has been very impressive at the end of the day, Jason hadn't been a Vampire for longer than a couple of days. He didn't even know what he was at first, and now he's saying he might be a Monarch? That's a quick transition. But Ashley also couldn't ignore the raw potential and power Jason exhibited near effortlessly. This was a gamble, but if they won, they would reach the peak instantly. It was the kind of risk that made gamblers red-eyed with frenzy. She had to take it.

"I just really hope there's more to him than just this because if this is it, he's gonna be in for a very rude awakening if he thinks becoming one will be easy just because he beat us."

Ashley decided to go all out in support of Jason if she was going to help at all. In her mind, she was already plotting against all who could become obstacles in their path.

"Yea, but he did beat us pretty easily, huh?"

Leave it to Michael to break the mood as Ashley was in profound thought.

"Yea, but I don't think it would be so easy if we fought now."

Ashley looked down at her hand as she thought about that euphoric rush of power and joy when she had received the inheritance and when she drank Jason's blood. It felt absurd to her that almost nothing had changed, but just by changing Sirelines to Jason's, her raw strength and magical powers had skyrocketed. She had even gained a new mastery over ice. This was not counting all the spells she had yet to master that was stored in her mind now.

"Yea, but I am sure he's even stronger now as well, though."

"That's a given, Michael. You don't give your subordinates a power boost like this without being sure you can handle them after it."

"So, what's the point of saying that?"

"That it would be harder for him to beat us now? Nothing just wanted to think of a bit of a benchmark. He just went through his first shift, and he managed to enslave both of us, and we still don't know how he did that. I am not planning on fighting him now or ever. We are going to be his right hand and support him in becoming a Monarch."

"Sounds like a plan, you know I just follow what you say."

Rolling her eyes at Michael, Ashley leapt off the roof without replying. Seeing her moving, Michael just laughed and followed behind her as he jumped behind her.

It took them a while to return home. Michael had taken over an empty house on the edge of town away from everything when they first arrived at Warden. It was a cozy two-story house that was a bit too remote for the previous owners that treated it as a summer home, but it was perfect for the vampire siblings that wished to stay away from prying eyes.
