19 Chapter 19: Treachery

Gisella returned to her room later that night in a flurry. Confusion and heartache lay trembling in her chest as she tried to control her labored breathing.

She knew now that the condition of Ryre’s monstrous state was not his fault, nor was his by birthright, but the fact still remained.

He was sanguine as he had said, and suddenly things within the castle turned upside down for her.

If something as big as that was able to go so unnoticed by her in the weeks she had been here then what else did she not see? Suddenly the dark corners of the castle she had once found comfort in and the nights she had spent in the gardens alone—and with Ryre—sent chills down her spine.

The next thing that shocked her was the scene she came back to once reaching the troupe’s sleeping quarters. Silks and personal objects flew across the room as she entered and Roseia quickly latched onto her arm.

She tried to ask what was happening, but it was obvious enough.
