Another Ambush

CHAPTER 39

Once Kieran was done with his drink, he looked at Emrys, his cold eyes looking less alive even though there was a spark of wonder in them.

"Let's go."

"Hmm, can you please explain to me what happened with you? We were discussing and you left. Kieran, I am sorry but I have to say, you are not okay, you know."

"I know and that is why we should go. I just want a proper rest and then I can solve this."

"Fine. As you wish," Emrys finally succumbed. He knew that with Kieran's eyes looking like that, there was little to nothing he could do. He just had to behave and respect his decisions.

Together they stood up and made their way out of the restaurant.

By the time Kale and Daciana finished, Daria was already waiting for them by the door. She had wanted to go in and meet Daciana but she was scared to look and feel unwanted amongst the VIPs.

So when it was time for her to leave, Daciana looked around and was surprised to see the young girl standing close to the entrance.

"There she is."

She had already informed Kale of her wanting to help the girl. Although Kale did not know all of the details, she had no doubt that he would soon find out.

Well by then, she would have been long away from him, sparing her his yells and you know what.

"Hey. I was waiting for you to come over. Didn't know you were waiting here," Daciana explained.

"I am sorry ma. I just..." she fumbled with her fingers, lowering her gaze to avoid their eyes, especially Kale's intense gaze.

"Okay. No need to worry about that. It is all good. Meet my friend, Kale. Kale this is Daria."

"Hello, mister." Even the way nd manner in which she spoke told a different tale. She really was meek and had just been forming tough with the guy before.

Rather than answering her, Kale held his gaze, scrutinizing her from his height advantage.

Fortunately, Daciana had noticed him doing that and nudged him n the stomach.

"Hi," he uttered calmly and then looked at Daciana who was already grinning at him.

"Now, shall we?"

Since she could not take the young girl to her home, Daciana chatted with Esmeray up and informed her of Daria and her wanting to allow her to stay with her in the meantime.

So rather than taking Daria to her place or Daciana's, Kale drove them over to Esmeray before taking Daciana straight home.

To her surprise her father was seated in the first living room, waiting over a cup of coffee and biscuits with a newspaper in his hand.

The moment he heard her voice, he dropped the newspaper, stood up slowly and placed it on his seat before walking towards her with both hands in his pocket.

"How was it?" He asked her, taking a quick glance at her whole body?

"It was fine dad. No need to worry yourself."

"Hmm. Then why do I smell a human on you?"

"Oh, that."

"Yes, that," Nickolaj emphasized with his hands still tucked away in his trouser pockets.

"Well, I helped out a human, that was all. There weren't any laws that have stated any of that right?"

"No. It is fair and okay what you have done. I bet your night was stressful on its own. Now, you may go up and freshen up. Welcome, dear. I am just glad you had a great time."

"Yeah. Sure did. Muah." She blew him kisses into the air and immediately rushed to the elevator to get to her room.

Once she was in, she let out a cold breath before slamming her body down on the bed. Not up to a minute when she did that, she heard her phone's notification sound and brought it out.

Checking it, she saw it was a text message from Kale. Apparently, Loverboy forgot to give her a good night peck and charm, so he texted.

"I want to start by saying it was great hanging out with you this evening. It made my day. I would be looking forward to more. Goodnight princess."

A peal of laughter escaped her lisp at that moment.

Was Kale really trying to improve himself? It was a mysterious wonder but it was how he was getting at.

By the next morning, she woke feeling calmer than before. She did not know if it was her agreement to help the young girl or was it her meeting with the annoying Kieran or her outing with Kale? Regardless, she felt better.

By the time she got ready to leave for the bathroom to get ready for work, a call came into her phone, shocking her that someone would remember her.

Picking up her phone by her bedside, she checked the caller and then answered.

It was the hospital and the fact that she was called meant something was wrong.

"Hey, morning Neil, what's up?"

"Morning your highness. Sorry to disturb your morning but you need to come."

Instantly, her still half-open eyelid flew open. "What happened again?"

"There has been another ambush and our people who survived are in a serious life and death case. I... "

He did not hear anything again, just aw Josie in the background but if he knew Daciana well, he understood what that meant.

She was getting dressed to leave.

"Hey, sorry. Give me the details. I would be there soon," she finally replied after about three minutes.

"All I can say right now is that we need your healing powers but please calm down. It would do no one good if anything bad should happen to you. The last thing I want is for your father to be on a rampage and we have an all-out war because you got hurt."

She rolled her eyes at him as she rushes for the elevator.

"It would do no one good if we have an all-out unprepared war when we are already losing our people."

"Save your worry for your patients. I'm on my way."
