Chapter 17

Janus always believes that he is just a normal person. Scratch that. He is just one of the most ordinary people in their world. Janus believes that he is just a small existence on earth that occupies a small space in it until his final days come knocking on his door.

Janus is not like those protagonists in mangas and animes where they possess endless luck through their journey in life. He is just a jobless man who knows nothing but playing a lot of video games all day and all night. But although it is a wrong mindset, Janus still feels contented with his life and he does not want to ask for more.

But it all changed when he finished this mysterious Valkyeria Rozea, received a notice about his cash prize, got murdered by a bouncing crazy pig, woke up in a body owned by a powerful man, and received a system who guides him with the things he needs to know in this damned dungeon.

Janus did not know what did he do in his life to experience all these shits. Although he is still taking several baby steps just to get used to his new life, Janus still feels weird that he is just taking everything that easily. He should freak out like a normal person, right? A normal person will not adapt that easily to his surroundings especially if you are in a place filled with creatures that respect you out of fear.

Janus is not some damned hero in a typical story where the protagonist will be teleported in some shitty place because he is destined to save the world from villains, get rewarded by a king, and will be married to a princess of a huge kingdom. He is not like that. Fortunately, his situation right now is different from those cliche hero novels that he accidentally read online. But still, Janus should not get used to it that easily.

That is why Goliath's reaction is the most fitted emotion in their situation right now. Thank the heavens that his giant friend is an ordinary person. Just look at him. He is clearly distress about their current situation.

"J-Janus? W-What are you..."

Maybe the proud and gloating feeling on his chest is the remnants of the real Meluna's emotion left on this body. Or maybe it is his real feelings. He doesn't know anymore. But one this is for sure.

Janus is enjoying this feeling.

His big friend is now trembling while looking at him with wide eyes. Janus's smile widened as he continued patting his gigantic pet. He can feel the soft vibration from the two-headed lion while enjoying the lazy pats he received from his owner. Janus suddenly wonders if his huge furry friend will try to attack him in case he pulls one of its whiskers.

'Hmm... I guess not.'

"H-How... But that c-creature is..."

'...Right. Goliah.'

Janus apologized to Goliah in his mind for forgetting his existence for a few seconds. He is just enjoying the luxury of having a pet. Though the Ferbeluz is kind of different from any domestic pets that a normal person can ever have, at least the sentiment is still the same. In the end, it all depends on one's mindset.

"Janus, I-I thought you will—"

"Die?" Janus continued his question.

"That's..."

"Nah. I'm too handsome to die in this place." Janus confidently said. "I mean, look at me. I am too hot for this place, right?"

Goliah did not make an effort to respond to Janus's joke. He is still preoccupied with the facts that Janus is still alive and he is now sitting on top of his supposed-to-be killer. Goliah definitely has a lot of questions he wanted to ask about his new friend. But at the same time, he is also afraid to hear the answers to his questions.

Janus let out a soft sigh when he saw his giant friend being lost in his own thoughts. He cannot really blame him though. If he is now in Goliah's position, Janus is positive that he will run as far as he can away from this two-headed lion and leave his newfound friend that is sitting on its head. Obviously, that friend is not normal! Just like him.

'Heh. Janus, you are crazy. You keep on jumping from one idea to another.'

Shaking his head, he taps the Ferbeluz's head twice to signal him to put his head down. Surprisingly, the two-headed lion really puts his head slowly as if it is afraid to hurt him in the process. When his feet touch the ground, Janus pats its fur a few more times and he is rewarded with a purr from the Ferbeluz. Afterward, he faces his huge friend who is looking at him with careful eyes.

"Are you now afraid of me, Goliah?" Janus asked and tilted his head a little.

Janus saw the hesitation in Goliah's eyes. Well, he cannot blame him for putting his guards against him. Janus is the one who lied to him first. Technically, it is not his intention since he is also confused about what is happening around him.

"Goliah, listen. I—"

[Thirty seconds before the group of thieves arrives in front of you, Janus.]

"Ah, shit. I forgot about them." Janus muttered under his breathe.

"What—"

"Listen to me, big guy. We have uninvited guests coming this way. If you want to be safe, just stay still and let me deal with those fuckers. You hear me?"

Before Goliah can process what Janus is trying to tell him, they both heard loud footsteps running in their direction.
