1 Boys POV: Spring Warmth

In a land where our king rules every aspect of the citizens lives, and puts all commoners on the verge of poverty, is the place i grew up in. Ultimately this will decide my fate... our fate.

My mom owned a small stand where she would sell fruits and vegetables to people, while my dad was a hard working blacksmith that would work himself half to death. I knew i'd become a blacksmith too some day because of my dad. It's just how thing's worked in the family. Sons would pick up where their fathers last left off and carry on the family torch. I wasn't complaining though. Surprisingly enough, I thought my dad's work was quite fascinating. No man in the entire kingdom could rival fathers skills at his craft. He made the sharpest, toughest steel blades for the entire Royal Army! Sometimes before I would have to go to school, i'd wake up slightly earlier than usual and  sneak into his workshop to see what projected he'd be working on. To my surprise he would always be making some grand steel contraption for the Army.

At school, I had lots of friends. I knew everyone because it was a small village, but that's not the point. It was no surprise that i was the first person to know when someone new shows up, especially when she practically shows up at my door step.

As i'm walking out of my house to meet up with my friend Nathaniel to walk to school together. That's when I first saw her. I steadily lean over and whisper in Nate's ear, "Who's that?" as I point in the direction of a girl who looks about my age wearing a beautiful pink dress, with an adorable big white bow along her angelic blonde hair, looking lost and confused. Nate shrugs his shoulders and starts walking to her. At first I was confused as to what he was doing, but when I realized he was confronting her I hurried after him to catch up. When I finally caught up to Nate, he was already introducing himself to this mysterious girl. "Hi, i'm Nathaniel, but everyone calls me Nate, and this is my friend, William." He stated "He's the loser." I perked my head  up "Hey!" i yelled, giving him a nudge. "Relax i'm joking" i shake my head in disappointment, she giggles as she watches us. "So what's your name?" I asked "Alice, it's nice to meet you Nate and William." she said with a smile. "Nice to meet you too, Alice" Nate said as he smiled back at her. "Alice, what a beautiful name" i said without thinking but not realizing it because of her Spring like warmth, clouded my sense of thought. "Why, thank you" she said as she looked at me as she started blushing, and locked her eyes with mine.

As we stood there staring at each other for what seemed to be a lifetime, Nate began to brake the silence. "Ahem." We both look away from each other all flustered. Nate continued with, "So, you're obviously new here, and lost. We were just on our way too school, is that where you're headed too?" Alice replies, "Yes actually, i heard it was somewhere close by, but i can't seem to find it." "Well no worries, you can tag along with us." Nate replies  as he turns around and starts casually walking away. As I watched him slowly start walking , I soon would have done the same, but as I was about to take my first step, I felt a light tug on my sleeve. "Hey, William?" "Y-Yes Alice?" I answer trying to avoid any unnecessary embarrassment "Even though I just met you, I don't think your a loser. For what it counts, I think your pretty nice for a boy. And thank you for the compliment. It means a lot." She responds with a smile so warm and pure it could keep me warm even through winter. "Alice about that. I-" As I was about to tell Alice that I didn't mean to cause any trouble by it, Nate interrupts me with,

"Hey what's the hold up you two? We'll be late if y'all don't start walking." "Alice looks at me with a smile "We can continue this later okay?" "Yeah... Later." As Alice started walking I couldn't help but feeling a strange warmth in my chest. A feeling I have never felt before, I don't know how to explain it but, it felt... Blissful. I finally regained my sense and started following after Nate and our new friend Alice after our first encounter.

When we finally arrive at school, all the other kids started to surround her, asking her questions like where she's was from and why she moved here, and commenting on her beauty. She didn't answer many of them though, she was probably too surprised at all the sudden growth in popularity.

"Alright kids, settle down. Class has started, so everyone sit down!" Mrs.Abbe said. "Today we have a new student, as you all may know. Alice? Why don't you stand and introduces yourself to the class." Alice rose from her seat and faced the class. "Hi everyone, my name is Alice Cordell and i'm happy to be working along side you all." The class starts whispering and mumbling until one boy yells out "If your last name is Cordell, does that mean your parents made you that bow?" Then a girl "And the dress?" The class got silent, then Alice spoke "Why yes actually, they've made this one and many more." The same girl asks "Have they made clothes for the Royal Palace?" Alice hesitates to answer and thinks long and hard, then simply said "Yes." Then every girl in class rose from their seat asking Alice if her parents would make them a Royal dress, without even giving her time to answer. What seemed like a second, Alice looked over at me and we caught eyes again. Before I knew it, I was staring in her ocean eyes. As she started to blissfully smile, I began to blush. "That's enough questions for today, lets get class started." Mrs.Abbe said talking over the other girls.

After that, class began as any other day, aside from the contestant chatter between the girls and their wild fascinate imagination. I look over to Alice who's sitting only two seats in front of me in the row beside me. Just looking at her makes me question her. I think to myself "Proper manners, great speech, beautiful dresses? Just who exactly are you Ms.Cordell?"
