CHAPTER TWO : What the hell is going on ?

The apartment building was suddenly surrounded by barricade tape, mentioning " POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS", blue and red lights of police cars blinding every eye nearby, a blockade was placed to prevent contaminated evidence and keep people outside the crime scene full of yellow photos evidence letters, most of the law enforcement wore jackets that read " forensics" and those with an unprofessional dress were assumed to be detectives?

She didn't know, but she was sure it was all happening before her eyes. All she was feeling is how light she was as police officers dragged her from hand to hand until they put her in a car seat, and buckled her up. Even after all those times when her dear mom picked her up, she has never felt this feather weighting.

Days went on, time wouldn't stop to let him catch his breath, he was exhausted due to the sleepless nights working on the murder that disturbed the calm of their small town.

Most of the crew members would fail to remember the last time they went home, the tons of paperwork that had to be done was more powerful than their human desires to go shower and have a good night's sleep next to their partner because none of them was ready or wanted to get yelled at by the manager, he was a selfish 'bastard' as they reclaim.

He stood by the corner of the workplace smiling with his rotten teeth, he was the exact opposite of an aphrodisiac, no one cherished him nor accepted him, they also claimed he bribed his way into the manager post.

Still, that won't change the fact that none of the detectives on the precinct had an idea of whodunnit, but the question that keeps asking itself at every corner of the precinct wasn't whodunnit anymore, instead, it's whydunnit?

As the detective responsible for the case, he couldn't stop himself from staring at the little girl's photo hanged on the board of the headquarters as the whole team was having a meeting about the killer's next move, and why did death follow this little angel, he had no idea.

They had no idea.

She had big blue eyes, a small nose but a big wide smile on her face, something from the inside told him she could never smile that big again, not after what happened. He had no idea of was about to happen. But he couldn't believe it, he refused to believe that a 7-year-old had to go through what no one was supposed to live through but also had to live with it her entire life.

Now that the meeting was over, he quickly grabbed his jacket and his car keys and started juggling his way to his car. He was both happy that he finally was able to go home but filled with guilt since 2 months have passed and still no lead on whoever the criminal was crawling, he couldn't help but think how the forensics couldn't find any clues.

The cause of death was a first head trauma that caused intracranial hematoma that expanded within the skull, pressed on the brain and then death followed. According to the pathologists, internal bleeding can kill you within 6 hours of hospital admission, it was approximately reduced to 4 to 5 hours for the head trauma to lead to death.

The murder weapon was never found but it had to be a stick with a larger part at the bottom that caused the head injury to the victim's skull, probably a club ( golf club). There were no signs of struggle so it was assumed that the victim knew her killer, the evidence of no forced entry made the hypothesis of a break-in or possible burglary impossible.

The footprints revealed a measure of 28,6cm so it's assumed that a killer is a man since the shoe size is way too big, they found out that the shoes were custom made but when tracking them down to one of the theater actors, he claimed that they were stolen a week before the murder and since there is no CCTV in the changing rooms the police couldn't figure out who took them.

The actor was eventually erased from the suspect list since they were witnesses of the mess he got into after he lost the shoes and nothing was tying him to the case anymore, plus murdering someone while wearing shoes that would make him lose his job if he loses them wasn't a smart choice, he knew they dealt with someone smarter than used the shoes as a distraction.

There were no fingerprints, no witnesses. He was pretty sure that whoever did this, wasn't his first time.

"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?" was all he could think of at the time.

Before he knew it, he was already home. Maybe he was too drawn in his thoughts that have been hunting him since they put him the detective in charge of the case. After the shower, he kissed his wife goodnight.

"Long day Patrick ?"

Said Selena lying beside him.

"Longcase" he softly whispered to her ear as he back hugged her and fell asleep.
